Chapter 101 Chapter 101

Chapter 101 Chapter 101
“Watch them,” Hadeon muttered softly. “I must say, I underestimated how brutal Reynard could be fighting. You were too busy running away from me to watch them,” he purred, stroking her cheek. “But when he was down, he kicked Brendan’s leg from behind, sadly not enough to break his bone, but enough to distract him and tackle him into their current position.”

Tears streamed down her face. “Please… You can stop thi–” Her breathing stuttered as Hadeon wrapped his hand around her throat, forcing her to watch them.

“Watch one of the men you love so dearly kill the other. You’ll remember this pain: how the light will leave his eyes, how the image will be embedded in both of your minds. You’ll never be able to escape the pain. He more so for doing it, and still losing you.”

She cried.

At the same time this was all happening, Brendan writhed under Reynard’s grip just enough to lock eyes with Suki. He murmured, “Love…”

Reynard, with his hand around Brendan’s throat, turned his head to see what Brendan was looking at. “N-No… she can’t watch this,” he groaned. His body was trembling as he struggled to hold back from tightening his grip further. “Fight back,” he snarled. “Push me off you.”

“I can’t…” Brendan wheezed. “You need to fight the urge.”

“I’m trying,” Rey exhaled.

“Can I–” he struggled to take a breath. “Can I tell you something?”

“If this is a ‘before I die’ speech, then hell no.” He snarled, struggling against the urges poisoning his mind. “You’re… not dying.”

Wrapping a hand around Reynard’s wrist and gripping tightly, Brendan sighed, “Please.”

Tears welled up in Rey’s eyes. He nodded.

“The reason why…” He sucked in a sharp breath as Reynard managed to loosen his grip around his throat slightly. “…I called you ‘Mr Perfect’ – it wasn’t to make fun of you. It was because I was jealous of you. You became exactly what I strived to become when I was a youngling. I wanted to be a powerful warrior to protect my pack and the people I loved.”

“Bren…”

“As much as it seemed like I was saying it to ridicule you, deep down I was saying it because I thought it was true.” He cleared his throat. “You bring light and hope to the people around you, and all I bring is darkness.”

Rey shook his head. “Th-That’s not true, you don’t. I’m far from perfect. I’m damaged. My trauma filled me with fear and rage. I’m controlling and need order; otherwise I feel like I’m going to lose everything and everyone I love all over again. It blinds me, just like how I was blinded by my rage towards you. If I were perfect, I would’ve believed you entirely.”

Brendan’s eyes softened. “But deep down you did; otherwise you wouldn’t have given me a chance when you learnt the truth.”

“Stop it,” he wept silently. “Stop saying all of this. You’re not dying.”

Brendan coughed but forced a smile. “But I mean it. You’re perfect. Perfect to take care of Suki when you get out of this mess with me. So do it, end it, Rey.”

He ground his teeth together. “No, I can’t, I won’t. Suki needs you. I need you.”

A tear escaped Brendan’s eye, although he still held his weak smile. “My story never had a happy ending. I knew that since the day I became a Rogue.”

“Don’t say that.”

“I guess we’ll never know what happens between us after all.”

“Stop.”

“End it and help Suki before we lose her too.”

Reynard’s lip quivered. “Stop it.”

“End it.” He dug his fingers tighter into his skin.

Drawing a hand back, Reynard summoned his claws. Tears streamed down his face. “I’m sorry.”

From her distance, Suki couldn’t hear the speech between her mates, but in her heart she knew they were fighting for each other, and fighting for her. But when she saw Reynard draw his claws, she knew there was no going back. “No… Rey… don’t.” She rasped, “Just… ten… more…”

Hadeon brushed his lips against her ear and whispered. “How fun would it be if I marked you while you watch Brendan die?” His lethal grin grew. “I think that would make it even more fun for me…” He moved down to her neck and drew himself back, summoning his fangs.

Suki closed her eyes and whispered in her mind. Five…

Hadeon moved quickly for her neck but then froze. “What is that?” he asked.

Four…

Moving her head to get a better look, he saw something red and white in her ears.

Three…

He pinched and pulled it out. Furrowing his brows, he noticed it was the hospital sheet she had ripped up and soaked with her blood to distract him. “Why the hell do you have these in your ears?”

Two…

“Hey, answer me,” he demanded, shaking her.

She opened her eyes and spoke with a monotonous sternness in her tone. “One.”

A piercing high-frequency sound emerged from the long-range acoustic devices. For those who weren’t supernatural, they wouldn’t feel a thing, but for other supernatural beings, specifically werewolves – the pain is excruciating.

Hadeon bellowed, slapping his hands over his ears and collapsing onto his back, struggling to endure the pain.

Suki picked up the fabric and lodged it back into her ear. Even though she had minimal access to her wolf side, and therefore couldn’t be harmed by the sound, she could still hear it, and that was unpleasant enough.

She rolled onto her stomach, weakly lifting herself to look towards her mates. Reynard had released Brendan, and they both were covering their ears, but not collapsed on the ground in agony like Hadeon, who was still screaming.

With the high frequency attacking Hadeon, he was unable to keep hold of the minds of others, freeing her mates.

Her eyes trailed to all the broken pillars surrounding them, and more specifically, all the long-range acoustic devices they once held – all destroyed thanks to Hadeon’s own wrath of destruction.
