Chapter 189 Chapter 189
Chapter 189 Chapter 189
Luna finds her mother in the garden.
Elenora is tending the same roses that Luna tends. The same flowers that have lived for decades. Red and crimson, color of blood and love intertwined.
For moment, Luna simply stands and watches her mother move through garden with grace.
Elenora is older now silver threading through dark hair, lines around her eyes from smiling more than frowning. She moves with ease, confidence, the kind that comes from living your own life fully.
She looks up and sees her daughter.
And her entire face transforms.
"Luna," Elenora says simply. Like speaking name is prayer of gratitude.
They embrace without hesitation. Without distance. Like weeks of separation haven't happened. Like love continues regardless.
"I am so grateful You're alive and well for us," Luna says into her mother's shoulder.
"I'm alive and well," Elenora confirms. "I've been living. Building a life. Finding things I didn't know I was looking for."
She pulls back to look at her daughter.
"And you've become a woman, i am so proud of you Luna" Elenora says. "A true Alpha female. A mother. A grandmother almost, from what I hear about your daughter rewriting cosmic law."
Luna laughs through tears.
"How do you know about that?"
"Ive only been gone from your home a few weeks but there are networks," Elenora says. "Ways of knowing even from distance. The Council territory isn't sealed off. News travels."
She takes her daughter's hand and guides her to sit among roses.
"I want to tell you everything," Elenora says. "I want you to understand that I didn't abandon you. That leaving was my own journey, not rejection of you."
Luna nods, listening. I needed to start living again away from your life, i needed to remember who i was without your father and finally without you.
"When your father was taken by the blackwells to be killed.. i never moved on and then i found out he was alive but going feral..hmmmm When your father went feral," Elenora begins, "when he had to remove himself to protect you, I had a choice. Stay and grieve as ghost. Or go and build something new."
She looks at her daughter.
"I went," Elenora continues. "I went to Council territory. I thought maybe I could find him. Maybe I could understand what was happening to him. Maybe I could love him from distance."
Elenora's voice carries softness of memory.
"I found him once," she says. "Fully animal. Fully feral. But his eyes they recognized me. He wept, Luna. In wolf form, he wept. And then he led me away, because he knew proximity was pain for both of us."
Luna squeezes her mother's hand.
"After that," Elenora continues, "I stopped looking for him. I accepted what he'd become. And I started living for myself."
"And I found someone," Elenora says, and her voice shifts. Becomes lighter. More joyful.
"From Whitefall pack," Elenora says. "He was in Council territory for different reasons. Political exile, complicated history. But he was kind. He was real. He saw me."
She looks at her daughter.
"After years of your father seeing me as responsibility to protect, as someone who needed to be kept safe—this man saw me as person. As woman with desires and opinions and life of her own."
"Tell me about him," Luna says.
Elenora's smile becomes radiant.
"His name is Marcus," she says. "He's tall, dark-haired, carries himself like he's forgotten how to take himself seriously. He makes me laugh, Luna. Actually laugh. Not the dutiful laugh of Alpha female performing role. But genuine, belly laugh of woman delighted by her lover."
Luna feels tears pricking her eyes.
"He loves across pack boundary just like you do," Elenora says, and they both start laughing. "Your cosmic pair bonds forced you into impossible choice. My lover is from pack that's technically enemy to Council politics. It's absurd. It's perfect. It's ours."
Luna realizes something.
"I was grieving you," Luna says quietly. "Accepting you as dead so I could move forward."
"I know," Elenora says gently. "And that was right for you. You needed to grieve. You needed to build your own life with Damian. You needed to raise children who would become extraordinary."
Elenora takes both her daughter's hands.
"But I wasn't grieving," Elenora continues. "I was living. We were both doing exactly what we needed to do. You were honoring what was lost. I was building what was possible."
She pauses.
"And now look at us," Elenora says. "My daughter in cosmic pair bond with obsidian heir, rewriting cosmic law. My daughter's mother in love with man from rival pack, living in Council territory. We're both loving across boundaries that were supposed to be impossible."
They laugh genuine, delighted laughter that echoes through garden.
"Your father would be proud," Elenora says suddenly. "If he could be conscious enough to understand. He'd be proud that you didn't let pack politics stop you from loving. That you didn't let fear stop you from becoming."
She touches Luna's face gently.
"He sacrificed so much to protect you," Elenora continues. "And you honored that sacrifice by living fully. By loving fiercely. By raising children who question authority even cosmic authority."
Elenora's eyes shine with tears and joy mixed together.
"Rowan rewrote cosmic law," Elenora says. "Because you taught her that love matters more than law. Because you showed her that her father gave everything so she could be free to choose. She inherited that from you."
Luna cries openly now.
Not grief. Joy. Recognition. Understanding.
"And now," Elenora says, settling back among roses, "you and I are sitting in this garden. Two women who've loved fiercely and survived. Two women who've learned that love keeps happening. Keeps evolving. Keeps transcending boundaries."
She looks at her daughter.
"Your father became ghost so you could live," Elenora says. "I became ghost for myself, not because I had to, but because I needed to figure out who I was beyond wife and mother. And in becoming ghost, I found myself. And I found Marcus. And I found joy I didn't know was possible."
Luna rests her head on her mother's shoulder.
"I'm happy for you," Luna says. "I'm happy you found love again."
"I'm happy you found love at all," Elenora responds. "Love that defies law. Love that defies expectation. Love that rewrites the world."
They sit together as sun moves across garden.
Tending roses. Sharing stories. Catching up on years of living parallel lives.
Elenora tells Luna about Marcus. About Council territory. About finding joy in exile. About building home in displacement.
Luna tells Elenora about Damian. About Rowan's cosmic journey. About Kaelen. About pack wars and family struggles and how love survived everything.
"So your daughter is about to make impossible choice," Elenora says finally. "About whether to transform. Whether to merge. Whether to become something entirely other."
Luna nods.
"And you're ready for that?" Elenora asks.
"I'm ready to support whatever she chooses," Luna says. "Because I learned from your example and from your father's sacrifice that love isn't about controlling outcome. Love is about standing present while transformation happens."
Elenora squeezes her daughter's hand.
"That's wisdom," she says. "That's how mothers and daughters pass strength across generations."
She looks at the roses.
"These flowers," Elenora says, "they bloom and wilt and bloom again. They transform with seasons. They're never quite the same twice. But they keep being roses. They keep being beautiful. They keep reaching toward sun."
She looks at her daughter.
"That's love," Elenora says. "That's life. Keep reaching toward sun, Luna. And let your daughter reach toward whatever her sun is. Even if it means becoming something other than what she was."
