Chapter 189 To New Beginning
Chapter 189 To New Beginning
In the evening,
The dining table was surrounded.
The aroma of roasted chicken, fresh herbs, and baked bread filled the air, mingling with laughter, chatter, and the occasional clink of cutlery against plates.
Dante sat close to Isabella’s mom and his usual stoic composure was softened by the genuine smile tugging at the corners of his lips.
Across from him, Isabella leaned back in her chair, her hand brushing lightly against his.
Matteo sat beside Sofia.
Marco, was halfway through telling a story about a mix-up at his wine bureau.
Isabella’s mother, graceful and calm as ever, laughed heartily, her eyes twinkling with amusement at Marco’s exaggerations.
Sofia’s father, still recovering, felt more relaxed than he had been in years, shook his head, smiling ruefully.
“And then,” Marco said dramatically, raising his hands as though conducting an orchestra, “I dropped the crate of wine right on the floor, and the clerk just looked at me like I was insane! I thought he’d call security or at least fire me on the spot!”
Isabella’s mother let out a full-bodied laugh, wiping tears from the corners of her eyes. “Marco! Only you could turn spilling wine into an epic tragedy!”
“I’ll have you know,” Marco protested, grinning sheepishly, “it was very nearly an epic tragedy. The wine survived. Barely though.”
Sofia laughed, elbowing Matteo lightly.
“Sounds like someone’s future husband has more stories than he knows what to do with. Careful, Matteo, you might have a competitive in-storytelling at your dinner table now.”
Matteo chuckled, shaking his head. “I think I can let Marco have this one. After all, I have Sofia, she’s worth a thousand wine crates.”
Sofia leaned back, smiling warmly, shaking her head. “You’re lucky he’s here, Marco. Someone has to teach you how to cook without nearly setting the kitchen on fire.”
“I can’t believe this,” Sofia’s father said, shaking his head, smiling at Isabella. “After everything… We're finally having a proper dinner together.” He gestured at the table, a faint glimmer of emotion in his eyes.
Isabella reached across and took his hand. “It’s finally safe, Uncle. And we’re going to make sure it stays that way.”
Marco nudged Isabella. “So, when’s the wedding planning starting? Because if I’m giving you advice, I want to start with the wine pairings.”
Isabella laughed, covering her mouth with her hand. “Marco, wedding planning is a serious affair, you can’t just start with wine!”
“Why not?” Marco said, leaning back in his chair with mock seriousness. “Wine is serious! Every great celebration starts with the perfect bottle.”
Sofia’s father laughed. “Marco’s right, you know. A wedding without wine is… unthinkable.
Matteo raised an eyebrow at Sofia, smiling. “Looks like Marco might have beaten me to giving advice on the wedding.”
“Oh please,” Sofia said, rolling her eyes with a grin. “You’re still in the lead.
The conversation shifted then, everyone talking at once, laughter ringing louder than before.
Isabella’s mother recounted a humorous story from her youth, causing everyone to laugh until their sides hurt.
Marco added in a ridiculous reenactment of his earlier wine fiasco, gesturing wildly, causing Dante to raise an eyebrow, though a smirk tugged at his lips.
“I think Marco needs a microphone,” Isabella said, laughing. “So we can record all this for posterity!”
“I vote yes,” Matteo said, chuckling. “We need evidence.”
Isabella’s mother shook her head, smiling fondly. “You all are ridiculous.”
Sofia’s father, watching the group, leaned back in his chair, a content smile on his face.
“I’m telling you now,” Marco muttered, “the wedding cake has to have seven tiers, not five. And I’m demanding the top tier is chocolate.”
“Marco,” Isabella groaned playfully, “it’s my wedding, not yours!”
“And yet, I will have an opinion!” Marco protested, hands in the air.
Sofia laughed, elbowing Matteo lightly. “See? Even Marco’s planning ahead for the wedding. We should start taking notes.”
Matteo smiled, shaking his head. “I think we’ll survive. Somehow.”
Isabella’s mother chimed in, “As long as everyone is here together, nothing else matters. Wine, chocolate cake, decorations… it’ll all work out.”
“I never thought… After everything, we’d get here. But I’m glad we have. And I… I’ll do everything to make sure we stay together like this.”
Isabella reached across and placed her hand over his. “You’ve already done enough. You’ve given me enough, nothing else matters.”
Sofia watched her friend with a smile, then looked at Matteo. “Looks like love really does conquer everything.”
“It does,” Matteo replied, holding her gaze, a small grin playing at his lips. “And we’ll make sure of it, together.”
The chatter shifted again, teasing and playful, laughter mingling with the clinking of glasses. Isabella’s mother suggested a toast.
“To new beginnings,” she said, raising her glass. “To love, family, and safety. To laughter that fills the house and hearts that are unbroken.”
Everyone raised their glasses. “To new beginnings,” they echoed.
Dante’s gaze briefly flicked to Isabella, soft and unwavering. “To us,” he whispered, and she smiled, squeezing his hand.
Marco raised an eyebrow, giving a mock salute. “To cake! And wine! And surviving chaos!”
“Cheers to surviving chaos,” Matteo said, laughing, clinking glasses with Sofia.
The night stretched on, filled with laughter, playful arguments about wedding plans, retelling old stories, and jokes that would linger long after.
Dante caught Isabella’s eye across the table, a silent conversation passing between them.
No words were needed.
After everything, they had found each other again, stronger than ever.
And as the night went on, the chatter, laughter, and love wove around them, the past finally behind them, and the future full of possibilities waiting just beyond the glow of that dining room.
