Sweet dreams
Sweet dreams
Scarlett’s point of view
A soft kiss on my cheek woke me up from my deep slumber, and my eyes fluttered open to see Asher sitting at the edge of the bed with a smile on his lips.
“Good morning, Sweetheart.” My lips curled up into a bright smile as memories of last night flashed back into my mind. It felt like a dream, the most beautiful dream I didn't want to wake up from. I wanted to get lost in it for the rest of my life.
My fingers wrapped around the sheet as I pulled it over my chest before sitting up, ignoring a sharp pain cutting through between my legs. It was all worth it. “Good morning.” Butterflies fluttered in my stomach as my gaze locked with his. He moved his hand to my cheek, stroking it gently, and I couldn't help but lean closer, placing a soft kiss.
“Seeing your face first thing in the morning brightens everything, and I'm very sure I'll have a beautiful day filled with your memories.” I couldn't help but chuckle at his words. He made me feel like a teenager in love for the first time. It was true; I was in love for the first time with a man like Asher who made me feel like a schoolgirl.
“You love to fluster me, don't you?” My brows furrowed, trying to mask my smile. I loved every second of it. Asher rose, and when I thought he was going to leave, he leaned over to me, scooping me into his arms. I gasped, clenching the sheet around me so it wouldn't fall.
“Where are you taking me?” I threw him a disapproving look before it was replaced by a smile.
Asher’s eyes locked with mine. “I've prepared a warm bath for you.” His voice was calm, laced with a softness I never thought I'd feel in his voice. I couldn't believe he was the same man who used a gun as a solution to all his problems. It was like I was looking at a different man.
As Asher reached the bathroom, he swung the door open and gently guided me into the bathtub. I removed the sheet from me. He had me soak in the bathtub filled with warm water that relaxed every muscle in my body. The tub was filled with bubbles, creating a calming and peaceful atmosphere.
“Should I help you take a bath?” Asher asked gently, his eyes on me. I couldn't help but feel heat rising to my cheeks, my heart racing in my chest.
“No, thank you. I'll do it myself.” I averted my gaze from him. God, I can't believe I'm all blushing and shy like a teenager. I mean, I was in my late twenties for God's sake, but what can I do? That's the result of being single for far too long.
Asher burst into laughter, his eyes twinkling with amusement. I pouted, throwing a glare at him. He couldn't be making fun of me, could he?
“Last night, you were moaning my name like it's the only name existing on this planet, and now you are all shy and blushing.” He laughed, and I scooped the bubbles in the tub with my hands, throwing them at him.
“Get out.” I chased him out, and he laughed even more as he made his way out of the bathroom. Once he was out of sight, I couldn't help but chuckle to myself.
After a few minutes, I finished taking a bath and wrapped a towel around me before stepping out of the bathroom. A pair of new clothes was set by the bed, while Asher was in the kitchen. I changed into a black dress that barely touched my knees with matching sandals, deciding not to dry my hair. I walked over to him.
“What are you making?” I asked as I wrapped my arms around him from behind. I just loved his body against mine, feeling his warmth on me.
Asher spun around, facing me. He lifted me into his arms before making me sit on the counter. “I'm making breakfast for my princess, but seeing you like this, I feel we should just skip breakfast and move to desserts. Don't you think so?” He spread my legs apart, standing between them as he leaned closer to me, his lips now brushing against mine.
“But I'm hungry.” I retorted, and he chuckled against my lips.
“But I'm hungry for you, Sweetheart. It's a never-ending hunger that is hard to satisfy, nearly impossible.” He slammed his lips against mine, wrapped my legs around his waist, pulling him closer, and deepened the kiss. It was longer than intended and leisurely. I didn't want it to stop, but the sound of Asher’s phone ringing pierced the air, causing me to break the kiss.
“Your phone is ringing.” I panted, trying to control my beating heart. Asher groaned as he moved from me, grasped his phone from the table, and answered it, bringing the phone to his ear.
“Why the heck did you call me?” Asher’s voice was calm, but his rage was unmistakable. The Asher I was with now disappeared into thin air.
“Inform them that I'm coming, and my arrival there isn't going to be good for either of them. I do not have time for your messed-up family drama.” Asher’s voice was now cold, his hand balled into a fist. I couldn't help but wonder what was wrong.
He hung up the phone before tossing it on the table, his face now red with rage. I jumped from the counter and walked to him, raising my hand to his cheek.
“Is everything okay?” I asked softly. He sighed as he leaned against my hand, placing a soft kiss.
“Shane and Mark are causing trouble for Miller, and now they went to meet Scarlynn in jail.” Heaviness settled in my stomach at his words, fear gripping my whole soul. Scarlynn’s name was like a curse in my life. Every time I heard it, I felt like she was going to snatch the little happiness I've got in my life.
Asher pulled me into a tight embrace as if he had sensed my worries. “Don't worry, Sweetheart. I won't let anyone hurt you or snatch our happiness from us, okay? If Scarlynn causes trouble for you or my brothers, then I won't hesitate to send them to their early graves. I won't tolerate anyone making you sad.” Asher’s voice was deadpan serious, and I knew he wouldn't hesitate to do it.
But there's this feeling deep within me that something big is going to happen, something that would shatter my world into a million pieces.
