In love with Scarlett
In love with Scarlett
Scarlett’s point of view
Everything was going according to my plan. I should be satisfied and happy, but a deep part of me wasn't. It was like I was doing something cruel, like it wasn't right of me to do this to her, especially when she gave birth to me. No matter what, she was still my mother, right? Was what I did with her right?
Questions swirled in my mind. I tried to convince myself that I did the right thing, that I was getting my revenge, but a part of me didn't want to agree.
Why?
I lifted my hand to my chest, clenching it tightly, a sharp pang cutting through. I was disgusted with myself. How could I do such a thing to a woman who gave birth to me?
But what about everything she's done to me? Was that right?
A battle erupted between my brain, my heart, and my pain. Each part had a valid reason, but my morality was against it all.
The image of those men started flashing in my brain like a horror movie replaying. They smiled as they pierced the dagger right into my chest. I screamed for them to spare my life, but they didn't.
I covered my ears with my hands, my breath now coming in short gasps, my heart banging against my chest, fear coursing through me.
I flinched back when I felt strong arms wrapping around me, but I relaxed when I realized it was Asher. I wrapped my arms around him tightly, trying hard to control my emotions.
“Asher, do you think I'm a bad person?” My voice cracked barely above a whisper, tears welling up in my eyes, but I blinked them back.
Asher pulled me out of his embrace, gently cupping my cheeks, our gaze locking.
“Scarlett, you are the most pure-hearted person I've ever seen,” his voice was low and soft. “You've made me believe in love and the beauty of life. If you are a bad person, then no good exists on this planet.” I lowered my gaze, the tears I'd been trying to hold back streaming down my face.
I couldn't control the tingling feeling of guilt coursing through me. “I feel so overwhelmed, like I've done something wrong. Maybe I should just drop this whole thing,” I muttered, my voice barely above a whisper.
“Scarlett,” Asher’s voice was calm and steady. I lifted my head, and our eyes met. “They've started this, and you are just finishing what they've started. Don't be so hard on yourself, please.” He gently wiped my tears with his thumb before he pulled me into a tight embrace.
I didn't even realize when I'd fallen asleep in his embrace, the only thing I remember is him sitting at the edge of my bed, hugging me tightly.
The Next Day…
I woke up to the delicious aroma of fresh coffee filling my nostrils. My eyes fluttered open as I sat up on the bed, stretching my body.
“Good morning, sweetheart.” My eyes shifted to Asher sitting by the bed, a tray of breakfast set on the nightstand.
“Good morning,” I muttered, the memories of last night flashing back in my mind. It was hard to believe that I slept like a small baby without even having my sleeping pills. Could it be that Asher was with me? “What are you doing in my room so early in the morning?” I put on a straight face. I shouldn't be used to all this because I'm still going to leave at the end.
Asher chuckled. “I've made breakfast for you.” My eyebrow furrowed at his words. I've never seen him cooking before!
“I didn't know you cook?” I noticed, rising off the bed, I slipped my feet into my warm slippers.
“There are many things you don't know about me, sweetheart,” Asher said. I couldn't help but let out a scoff.
“I know Asher Black, a cold-hearted mafia lord,” I retorted. Before I could take a step to the bathroom, he grasped my hand, pulling me into his lap, wrapping his arms around my waist.
“You've seen the Asher who is a cold-hearted mafia lord, but you haven't seen the Asher who's in love with Scarlett,” Asher buried his face in my neck, his warm breath caressing my skin.
“But you also loved Scarlynn too, right?” I retorted, trying hard to keep a straight face.
“With Scarlynn, I thought I was in love with her, but with you, I feel it in each and every vein of mine. Every time I see you, my heart beats faster than it usually does. I feel this kind of happiness I can't describe, like I've finally found a missing piece that completes me. I might not know what love is, but I know what I feel for you. It's much more than love, and no words will be enough to describe how I feel for you.”
My heart started racing against my chest as Asher’s words sank in. I swallowed painfully hard, unable to utter a word.
Deep down, I felt the same way, but I'd never admit it to him. “Let me go and wash my face before my breakfast gets cold,” I forced the words out of my mouth, my heart racing against my chest. Every time I'm around Asher, I feel like a small girl, like I was in my early teens. He brings out the inner child in me, and I hated it.
“I have a surprise for you tonight,” Asher whispered in my ear. I sucked in a sharp breath, trying to keep my emotions in check.
“Asher, I need to focus on my mission, and I do not want any distractions,” my voice was barely above a whisper. He was too close for my own good, and I can't control myself.
“I won't distract you from your mission, Scarlett, but please allow me to spend some time with you. If you decide to leave me behind, then I'd live with these memories of us.” Asher’s voice cracked with emotions. I swallowed the lump forming in my throat.
It felt as though someone was twisting my heart with a sharp dagger, and the pain was just too unbearable. The sadness in his tone was just too much for me to bear. I can't see him in so much pain, but I can't stay either. I moved out of his embrace, making my way to the bathroom.
Later That Day
As I lifted my hand to knock on Scarlynn’s door but halted my actions when I heard them talking inside, I leaned closer to the door to listen to their conversation as the door was left open slightly.
“Mom, I want nothing to do with you. I can't trust you anymore after what you've done. You've betrayed me,” Scarlynn yelled, her words dripping with venom.
“Shut the fuck up, okay? We are not going to argue because of that silly boy. You should focus on the reason why we came here. Seduce John and get rid of that wife of his unless you want us to end up in the streets,” Monica's voice was cold and stern. Scarlynn sighed as she walked over to the bed and sat down.
“Don't worry about it. I'm going to drug him tonight. We'd spend the night together, and his wife would find us together. I'm sure she'd leave the house, and I'd send people to kill her. It would be easier to get him under our control,” Scarlynn muttered, her voice laced with annoyance.
“Good, at least we won't be on the streets,” Monica said unapologetically. She doesn't even have remorse for her actions. I need to show them the taste of their medicine. I thought they'd change, but no, they are even worse.
