CHAPTER NINETY-SEVEN
LUCIAN'S P.O.V
As she stared at me, waiting for me to speak, I realized that I wasn't sure I actually wanted her to know. The plan was a sudden one but I felt it was the best I could think of.
I scratched my jaw, smiling evasively.
"Um...why don't I tell you after I speak with him first."
"Are you sure? You can just tell me right now. Why do you have to tell him first?"
"Because..." I grounded my jaw together, the feeling of lying to her again didn't sit well with me. "...I just feel like it depends on his reaction. Please understand."
She stared at me for a while then blew out a deep breath, her eyes still on mine.
"Sure. If you say so."
"Thanks. I'll be right back." I stood up and was about to head out when I felt her hand pulling me back, I looked at her.
She had a soft look on her face, her eyes slightly lowered but still focused on me.
"You know I trust you right?"
That hit me right on the chest, she trusted me and I was about to deceive her. But it was only for a while. Was I doing the right thing? It's for the best so it has to be done."
I squeezed her hand and let out a small smile.
"Yes, I know."
Then I hurried out of the room and headed to his study. He was in so I didn't bother knocking.
"Kieran, I need to speak with you."
"Don't you ever knock?" He growled without even looking up at me.
I pulled back a chair and sat down, tapping my hand on the desk to get his attention, he briefly glanced at me then went back to his laptop. His study was large like mine but too bland, only a few furnitures then books everywhere. A few paintings on the wall, not a picture of him or anyone else in sight. Even the walls were painted gray
"What is it?"
"So, I suddenly had an idea on what to do about Desmond."
He stopped what he was doing and finally kept his eyes on me.
"What's your plan and why do I have the strange feeling that it might not be good?
I shrugged, shaking my head slightly.
"It can't be helped, even I don't like it."
He leaves forward, eyes earned now.
"Tell me."
"I want to offer myself as bait to him."
"What! Wait...go on"
"It's the only way I could think of without getting Aurora hurt or your pack members hurt."
"And you think that's the best?"
"Listen to me. He has my mother, my best friend and his mate locked up in the dungeon. Who knows what they're going through right now."
"I know that but..."
"The plan is for me to go there and let him capture me, when he thinks I have lost the will to fight, I can attack secretly. But yo do that, I need him to be distracted so that he doesn't watch me too much. That's where you come in."
He frowned, his eyes narrowing.
"How?"
"Cause a commotion or something, pretend like you want to attack the pack. Or even better, kill some of his men, I'm sure you can do that. Once he's too preoccupied with you, I can easily break free and free my people."
"Then what happens next?"
"We finally fight him and defeat him once and for all."
He raised an eyebrow, his expression skeptical. "How do you plan on doing all these? What if he kills you immediately instead of taking you into the dungeon?"
I smiled.
"You don't have to worry about that. If there is one thing I learned from all the years of thinking he was my father, is that he never finishes his enemies in one shot. He likes it drawn out and painful. He won't want to let me off that easily. I defied him, took something he wants, trust me, he wants me to suffer."
He closed his eyes and leaned back.
"And where does Aurora fit in all this?"
I swallowed, looking away from him and settling my eyes on his large bookshelf filled to the brim with books.
"She won't know until I'm gone from your pack."
He looked at me sharply
"Yes. That's what I want. Keep her here, make sure she doesn't know that I've left for my pack until after two or three days. Just say that I went hunting or something."
"She won't fall for it. Why don't you just tell her yourself?"
I gulped and whispered.
"Because...I don't want to say goodbye. I can't entertain the thought of not being able to see her again after all this. I still want to see her." I didn't care if he understood me.
He stared at me silently, then he cleared his throat.
"Your plan is crazy and stupid if you ask me."
I stared at him.
"But I'm ready to help, as long as Aurora is going to be safe."
I nodded at him.
"Thank you."
"So, how will I know when to distract him or cause something to happen?"
"It's easy...Aurora will tell you."
He tilted his head.
"What do you mean?"
"I don't know either. I just know she will be the one who can tell you when I want you to start. Whatever she says, just do it."
I saw his face hardening.
"Is it the mate bond?"
I smirked.
"Something like that. Let me run it all again. I surrender myself, he puts me in the dungeon, you distract him, I free myself and my pack members then we attack him. Your warriors and my warriors, together. Are we clear."
He stood up slowly and brought out his hand.
"Crystal."
I stood up too and took his hand in mine, our grips were tight as well shook. This was a risk, a big one, and there was a chance that it could go wrong. But I was willing to take that risk, if it meant saving my people and protecting Aurora.
"Great. So when do you leave for your pack?"
I took a step back, putting my hands in my pockets.
"Right now."
