CHAPTER THIRTY-THREE
LUCIAN'S P.O.V
I was lying in bed, deeply asleep, dreaming about when Aurora would accept with wide open arms and a wide smile on her face. When I felt it. Something was wrong. It was like a chill under my skin. My eyes snapped open, I looked around my room, nothing. It was as quiet as I had left it. I tried listening for any sound but all I heard was nothing. So I tried to go back to sleep again, but my mind was racing. Like a nagging sensation in the back of my head, my instinct told me to get up. I couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong. Finally, I threw off the covers and got out of bed. I needed to check on Aurora. I stopped at her door, my hand was raised, ready to knock when I heard a sound. My ears picked its source from the library. And my nose picked up another scent. Aurora's.
"Aurora? What's she doing there?"
I made my way to the library, my senses on high alert. As I approached the door, I felt a shiver run down my spine. Something was definitely wrong. I pushed open the door, and my eyes scanned the room. That's when I saw her. Aurora was standing in the hallway, her eyes looking a bit dazed. She had a bump on her head, and she looked like she had been through something.
I cleared my throat softly, trying not to scare her. "Hey, what's going on?" I asked, trying to sound casual. "What were you doing out here?"
She looked up at me, her expression a mix of confusion, shock and embarrassment.
"Huh...I...I was just in the library, researching something," she said, touching the bump on her head with one hand while holding something with the other.
I decided not to pry into it, if she wanted, she would tell me.
"What happened to your head?" I asked, frowning.
She shrugged. "I don't know, I must have hit it on something. It's no big deal."
I nodded, not entirely convinced. "Okay, well, you should probably get some rest."
She nodded slowly, looking a bit hesitant and awkward. "Yeah, goodnight, Lucian."
I nodded back, feeling a bit awkward too. "Goodnight, Aurora."
I turned and walked away, feeling a bit restless as well walked to our rooms. I felt the tension radiating from.her but she made no love to say anything. I couldn't stay silent, just before she went into her room, I called her.
"Aurora."
She stopped and looked at me, I saw signs of exhaustion, I also noticed that her eyes were red and a bit puffy. She was biting her lower lip and stared straight ahead, not staying on my eyes for long.
"What is it?" She asked, her voice low and soft.
I took a step forward, my arms slightly open.
"If you need someone to talk to...maybe you're feeling down or something. You..." I sighed, "I'm right here."
For a few seconds she stayed quiet, her face a frozen mask. Then she exhaled deeply, letting her shoulders fall as she nodded at me with bright eyes.
"Yeah...thank you. Thank you, Lucian."
I smiled at her, "You're welcome."
I watched her enter her room before I entered mine. My bed no longer looked inviting. Sleep had cleared from my eyes. I needed to clear my head, so I decided to go for a run. I slipped out of the pack house, in the cool night air, shifting in midair, letting the cool wind run through my fur. As I ran, I couldn't help but think about Aurora. She was keeping something from me, I was sure of it. But what? I pushed myself harder, trying to outrun my thoughts. But they only seemed to follow me, echoing in my mind like a whisper in the wind. I ran my body hard, until I was certain I was exhausted with no strength to think anymore. Then I fell asleep.
The next morning, I made my way out of the pack house, about to head out to meet Griffin. I made my way to my car when I suddenly felt something tugging my hand.
"Huh?" I glanced at my hand and swayed that a smaller, paleer hand was holding mine.
"Aurora."
She nodded briefly. "Hey. Come with me." She sounded serious and firm.
"Where? Why?"
She frowned, glancing around furtively.
"Just keep quiet and come with me." She hissed, her grip on my hand getting tighter.
"Um...okay."
She glanced around furtively then pulled me along with her. I'll say its more like I let her pull me along, after all, I am stronger and heavier. She led me to a place far from the pack house, deep in the woods, surrounded by trees. The sounds of birds singing cheerily and the trees swaying with the window filled my ears. I could smell the addictive scent of the earth. I faced her with a serious expression on my face, my voice in a conspiring low tone.
"You know, if you wanted to make out with me, all you had to do was ask." I smirked.
She balked, immediately letting go of my hand.
"What? Ew...that wasn't the reason why I brought you here."
I snorted.
"Could have fooled me. Then why drag me all the way to such a quiet and secret place, huh?" I wagged my eyebrows.
She groaned, slapping a hand over her forehead, I chuckled at her behavior.
"Sorry. I'm just messing with you."
With one last glare, she sighed and took a deep breath.
"I brought you here because I didn't want your father hearing us. He could be anywhere, I didn't want him using that excuse to do something to me...again." She looked me squarely in the eyes. "I found out something last night, in the library."
I clicked my fingers, a knowing smile on my face.
"I knew it, you were hiding something."
"And how did you know that Mr. Sherlock?" She deadpanned.
"Easy, you looked like you had seen a ghost yesterday. So pale and exhausted and...scared of was it shock? Anyway, that's what I noticed."
She nodded, "Yeah, I was all of those things last night."
I crossed my hands over my chest.
"Alright, tell me. I'm all ears?"
