Chapter 62 Chapter 62

Chapter 62 Chapter 62
Do you plan on going to the Silver Moon Pack?

That was not why I needed to see Chase. I just wanted to find out if someone recently came to ask about me. I also wanted to know how the pack was doing.

Dahlia’s words still clung to me like smoke, seeping into every breath I took. I wondered how she was able to get information about me so quick.

‘It’s obvious she’s working with someone’ my wolf said.

That could be the only logical reason but who could she be working with. Did the person work in this pack or my old pack? My head ached from thinking so much. The healer had warned me not to stress but how can I not? Maybe I shouldn’t have gone outside. I didn’t want Lucian to see me right now.

I paced restlessly around the room, then went to the table to pour myself a cup of water, my throat suddenly felt parched. I was halfway pouring myself water when a knock sounded. I stiffened at first but then I thought it might be Lina.

“Come in” I said.

The door opened and Aiden stepped inside. His presence filled the room although not like Lucian’s but you could feel the quiet authority. He stopped just inside the doorway, his gaze sweeping over me in a way that felt assessing but not unkind.

“I hope I’m not intruding” he said. “I wanted to see how you were feeling”

“I’m better” I replied. “Much better than yesterday” that earned me a nod.

“The healer said you have enough rest. Maybe your bandages would be removed soon and you’ll probably be able to start training next week. You’ll like that right?”

“I can’t wait”

“May I?” He gestured towards the chair.

“Of course”

I didn’t understand why he was acting so formal today or did Lucian tell him off in private the last time? I hadn’t spoken to him since that last time.

He sat and folded his hand loosely in front of him, his posture relaxed. There was something in his eyes but i just couldn’t point the exact emotion. A sharp pain jabbed me in the ribs and I gasped.

“How is the pain now?” He asked.

“Sore” I admitted “but manageable. It doesn’t hurt like when I first woke up. I thought I would pass out from the pain”

“And the dizziness?”

“Completely gone. I feel like my old self”

“Good” he studied my face for a bit longer before tilting his head. “You frightened all of us” I let out a quiet breath.

“I didn’t mean to”

“No one ever does but if you don’t mind me asking what were you doing in the woods that day?” He asked.

“I was exploring beyond the pack grounds, I didn’t know that place was out of bounds” I lied.

“But that servant girl should have known about that area. She didn’t kick against the idea?” This was beginning to sound like an interrogation.

“No, I was the one the insisted we go that way. I wanted to know every corner of this pack” he hummed, silence stretched between us but it was not awkward, it was just weighted.

“How is Lucian?” I asked breaking the silence. His brow lifted a fraction.

“You can simply find out by yourself” there was a pause. “Still pretending he isn’t worried” that caused a small smile to spread on my face.

“He’s not very convincing” Aiden’s mouth twitched at my words.

“No, he isn’t. We all know he cares” he leaned back slightly, his tone shifting to something more personal.

“He’s become more protective than usual” Aiden added.

“I’ve noticed”

“Have you?” His eyes sharpened then softened. “How do you feel about that?” I hesitated. The truth pressed against my tongue.

“Honestly, it’s surprising. I woke up to a different person. I don’t know if to say it’s scary but at the same time sweet” Aiden hummed. He was quiet for a moment before he spoke up.

“Ailsa, you should know you’re safe here. Whatever happened to you, wherever you came from, you don’t have to face it alone” my fingers dug into my palm.

“T-that’s kind of you” I said.

“It’s my job to make sure people understand our protection are truly protected” his gaze held mine. “Including you” my wolf shifted.

“You are a part of this pack now, no matter what anyone says to you. Lucian may have not made it known or done the initiation ritual but one day you’ll be our Luna too” my heart pounded. I feel like this conversation was heading to another place that I didn’t want to go.

Luna

There that word was and I hated to admit that it reminded me of the past. When people assumed Lorcan would make me his Luna but that didn’t happen.

“Lucian trusts me with matters of the pack and things he cannot see clearly. If there is anything troubling you, anything from your past that may affect you here, you can tell me. It will stay between us” I swallowed.

Why were topics about my past coming up today? First it was Dahlia and now Aiden. Images flickered through my mind, different scenarios playing at the same time that it caused an ache in my head. Lorcan’s name hovered at the edge of my thoughts. I pushed it back.

“I-I…wasn’t accepted” I said instead.

“In my old pack, I didn’t truly belong there. That’s why I left and became a rogue before I was found” I said quietly. Aiden watched me closely without saying anything.

“I left because staying would have killed me” I finished. “That is all I have to tell you”he nodded slowly absorbing my words without judgement. My wolf nudged me but I ignored her. I couldn’t tell him anything else.

“Sometimes, pack fail their own” he said. “But, it led you here so maybe it was meant to happen” he said softly and relief flowed through me.

“And Lucian? How much has he changed?” I hesitated again.

“Better than I expected. He’s still not sure about what he wants but his recent behavior is more than I expected”

“That sounds like him” there was another pause.

“You should be careful, Ailsa” my shoulders tensed.

“Of what?”

He stood moving closer, his move was deliberate but not threatening. His voice dropped, carrying a weight that made my pulse quicken.

“The attention you draw” my heart thudded.

“There are eyes on you and not all of them are friendly”

I thought of Dahlia’s words and the smirk on her face.

“I can handle myself” I said.

“I believe you but handling yourself is different from protecting yourself. I believe not every one likes the way the Alpha treats you and Lucian also has enemies that would use you to get him and that’s majorly the reason Lucian hadn’t made a claim on you yet but I know everyone knows what you are to him now” his voice dropped a tone lower.

“You’ve been almost killed twice in this pack. I believe you ate being watched. I know Lucian would never allow anything happen to you and I also but you need to be extremely careful. And if there is anything that I need to know, tell me so I can help you”

“There’s nothing” I said one more time. He turned to leave then stopped at the door.

“One more thing”

“Yes?”

His expression was unreadable now.

“You should know that I never for one day believed you to be a rogue. You looked too clean to be a rogue. I hope one day you’ll tell me the pack you came from” the room seemed to tilt.

I thought he had forgotten about that.

“The name doesn’t matter. It’s of no use”

“I hope so too. You need to speak to Lucian before he decides to find out himself. I’ll see you later” he didn’t give me a chance to ask what he meant by that because the door shut and I was alone once again.

Did he mean that Lucian was trying to dig up my past or that meant another thing?

“Why did it seem like my past was coming to hit me back in the face” I asked myself out loud.

‘It’s time for you to tell Lucian. Aiden may have dropped a hint for us’ my wolf said.

Telling Lucian now was not a good idea especially after what happened to me. He was already stressed. I don’t know how this information would make him feel. I didn’t even want to find out.

If I was going to tell Lucian, we need to be at a certain level of closeness. He said he wanted me but he could not claim me. I know he really meant that but we hadn’t gotten the chance to talk about our lives properly.

I just hoped that my secrets won’t be exposed until Lucian had marked me and vice versa.
