Chapter 59 Chapter 59

Chapter 59 Chapter 59
The next morning, the healer came to check on me as usual. It was still the same old story. Stay in bed until you are stronger. I was tired of hearing that everyday. I tried to convince the healer that I was fine and I didn’t hurt anymore.

Lucian stood at the edge of the bed, his shoulders rigid and jaw clenched. I couldn’t tell if he was still angry from the event of yesterday. Any time I closed my eyes, I could still see the rage in his eyes as he was seconds away from snapping Damian’s neck.

If I hadn’t spoken yesterday or if my voice hasn’t somehow reached him through whatever possessed him….. I swallowed hard, pushing myself upright against the pillows. My ribs protested still sore but that pain was nothing compared to the tightness in my throat.

Lucian finally looked at me and I could see it, the concern in his eyes, he looked scared and something else was there. Possessiveness.

“Do you still feel pain?” He asked.

“A little but I’m fine”

“The healer said you are healing fast. She thinks you’ll be able to walk around freely very soon”

“I feel better. I’ve told you countless times that I’m strong. I want to step outside for a bit. This room is starting to suffocate me. I need air” his expression turned sharp.

“No”

“Lucian….” Begging him was like pouring water on rocks.

“Ailsa…” his voice softened but his body still remained tense. “You’re still healing and the Beale confirmed that too” he closed the distance, sitting on the edge of the bed. “I can’t risk your health. I can’t risk you”

My chest constricted. He wasn’t speaking as an Alpha now. He was speaking like a man terrified of losing me. I reached out, gently touching his wrist.

“I’m not stepping out alone. You can come with me”

The moment my finger brushed his skin, something inside me seemed to move. His wolf surged forward behind his eyes, the color changing to silver. He gave in with a tight nod.

“Fine. I’ll agree since I’m going with you but you’re not leaving my side” a small smile tugged at my lips.

“I wasn’t planning to”

Lucian didn’t just walk with me, he escorted me like he was my guard and I was royalty. The moment we stepped outside, pack members stopped what they were doing. Warriors stiffened, giving Lucian a respectful bow then looking at me with wide eyes, some sympathetic while some shocked.

Whispers followed us like a shadow.

“That’s her…”

“That’s the rogue…..”

“Is she going to be our Luna…”

Lucian heard every word. I felt it in his posture and how he drew me slightly closer, his hand hovering at the small of my back. Even without contact, his presence felt like a wall.

“Are you okay?” He asked every few minutes.

“Yes” I answered back.

“Does your side hurt?”

“No”

“Are you dizzy?”

“Lucian….” I looked up at him, he had a faint scowl on his face. “I’m not going to break just because we took a short walk”

“I have to make sure you are alright” a smile tugged at my lips. I found this side of Lucian sweet. I could feel myself softening towards him and it terrified me.

After a short walk around the grounds, we headed back. My body was starting to ache again but I didn’t want to tell him. He would only make sure I didn’t leave the room again if I complained. If I could have short walks like this, then I could endure the pain.

We reached his door and he helped me inside like I was made of glass. He even adjusted the pillows for me. I decided to ask the question that was on my mind for a while.

“So when can I go back to my room?”

“This is your room” I shook my head.

“We both know this is not my room”

“It’s your room now” he said flatly.

“But I prefer the other one. I feel bad that you haven’t been able to sleep in your bed because of me” I frowned.

“I feel better knowing you are in this room. That way, I’d be able to keep an eye on you myself”

“But sleeping in a chair is uncomfortable”

“Are you inviting me to share the bed?” He asked with a smirk.

“If that’s what would be more comfortable for you”

“I’ll keep that in mind when I return. If you need anything, don’t hesitate to tell the guards at your door or better still call me”

He lingered for a second at the door, staring at me like he didn’t want to leave or couldn’t. When he finally stepped out, my lungs released a breath I didn’t know I was holding. These past days, I tend to become shy around Lucian.

The door opened, interrupting my thoughts of Lucian. Lina rushed in, she looked happy.

“Ailsa!!!” She screamed as she gripped my hand and sat beside me. “You look stronger now” I nodded with a smile.

“I’m healed”

“I’m so happy to see you alive and kicking. I can’t wait for you to be able to move around freely. I’ve missed our walks and fights”

“I can’t wait for that too. Hopefully it’s soon. I’m tired of staying in this room too”

“The last time I heard that the rogues are being treated so they can be questioned. They’ll tell us why they tried to attack us”

“I still can’t shake the feeling that those people knew us but from where I don’t know”

“It may also seem as though someone is actively trying to kill you. Have you thought about that?”

I knew someone was trying to kill me and I had an idea who it was. I just needed evidence to back myself because it becomes an accusation without evidence.

“Ailsa…” it was then I realized I had been deep in thoughts.

“What had you so deep in thoughts. You have any idea who it is?” She raised a brow. I shook my head.

“No, not at all”

I didn’t want to tell her yet about my encounter with Dahlia. I didn’t want to remember anything about it either.

“Your expression says a different thing but that’s by the way. You won’t believe what I saw” her tone changed to curiosity.

“What?” I asked leaning forward, interested in what she had to say.

“Damian” she whispered. “He was stomping around the servants quarters like someone set his things on fire. I swear, he looked like he wanted to kill someone” my heart tripped.

“Do you know anything about that?”

“No. I haven’t seen Damian since the attack” her eyes widened in surprise.

“What? Are you being serious? The last time I saw him I told him about the attack and he said he was going to see you. It’s hard to believe that he hasn’t come here” I swallowed heat rising to my cheeks.

“I’ve said this before and I’m saying it again. Damian likes you” I cleared my throat. I didn’t want to talk about Damian and his feelings.

“Let’s talk about other things and leave Damian for now. What else is happening in the pack”

“Everyone has been talking about your attack and the Alpha’s reaction. The alpha was feral on that day. He was going to kill anybody on his path. Everyone in the pack could feel his wolf’s fury”I sighed.

“I never thought a day would come when I’d see the Alpha like that. It has become clear to everyone who you are to the alpha now”

“And that’s what I’ve been trying to avoid. I don’t want anyone treating me specially”

“You need to get ready because your life in this pack is about to change. Everyone is waiting for the Alpha to declare you as his Luna” her smile was so wide. “I can’t wait for that to happen. I’d be the personal maid to the Luna” she said all excited.

While I thought about what that meant. It meant that all region was going to hear about it. What if Lorcan comes here to lay a claim on me?

No.

That simple answer from my wolf calmed me a little. She had been quiet since the attack and I knew she was taking her time to heal but I really missed her.

‘Lorcan has no claim on us. That’s why we need Lucian to mark us. If he does, then there would be no need to question that’

Lina tapped me and I looked at her.

“You keep zoning in and out of our conversation. Are you sure everything is alright”

“Yes, I’m sure. I guess I’m just tired already. After taking a walk around, I must have overworked my body”

“I’ll just leave you to rest. I’ll come back tomorrow” she turned to leave but she paused.

“I forgot to tell you”

“What’s that?”

“I finally spoke to the witch”
