The origine of the void

The origine of the void
Melissa’s POV

I had never seen anything like the heart of the Void, a huge, menacing vortex of pure blackness that stretched into the ruins of an old temple. The electricity in the air caused the hairs on my arms to stand on end.

"This is it," Damon stated in a steady yet hushed voice. He grasped my hand more tightly. "The origin of all things."

My voice was too dry to talk, so I nodded. Surrounding us were crumbling ruins that were alive with odd carvings that glowed dimly in the suffocating darkness. I felt a strange hum beneath one of the engravings as I brushed my fingertips over it.

I whispered, "These carvings are... stories."

With his blue eyes narrowing at the inscriptions, Damon knelt next to me. With grimness, he uttered, "Stories of the Void." It used to be a celestial entity. Perhaps a guardian.

I muttered, "But something changed," as my fingers traced a picture of a glowing person encircled by others before being engulfed by sharp shadows.

The deep, mocking voice of the Void pierced the oppressive silence. "Oh, little one, you've discovered my past."

I turned quickly, and there it was, tall and dark, its shape changing like smoke. The speech was full of contempt, and the presence was oppressive.

"Do you tell yourself that?" With a trembling voice, I shot back. "That you were a victim of some sort?"

In the dead of winter, the Void's chuckle sounded icy, like ice breaking. "Victim? No, Melissa. I saved the day. I tried to rid the world of its imperfections—your imperfections. Humanity's insatiable desire for destruction, betrayal, and greed. However, they were afraid of me. They retaliated. And they caged me when they were unable to murder me.

"Because everything was being destroyed by you!" Damon stepped forward and yelled. "You were playing god, not saving anything!"

As the shadowed shape of the Void approached, I moved involuntarily to avoid Damon. "You don't think I understand betrayal?" The Void growled. "Those I trusted betrayed me." Melissa, just as you will betray me. Like every one of your kind.

The hatred in its tone made me freeze. My voice wavered a little when I continued, "I'm not like them."

Leaning in closer, the Void's shape twisted around us in a spiral of blackness. "You resemble them exactly. And you will demonstrate it when the time comes.

I was left wondering if it was correct after its words struck me like a razor. Was it my destiny, like my forebears, to betray?

"Give up playing games!" Despite my trembling legs, I stepped forward and shouted. Why are you interested in me or my ancestry? What have we done to you?

For a time, the swirling mass of the Void was silent, but then there was a deep, rumbling laugh that surrounded us. "Oh, Melissa," it whispered, "do you not realize? Your ancestry condemned me.

"What?" I let out a gasp.

Damon snarled next to me. Melissa, don't listen to it. It's attempting to deceive you.

However, I couldn't ignore what the Void had to say. I clenched my hands and yelled, "Explain." "You mean that you were cursed by my ancestors?"

Even when the Void's voice grew softer, it retained its eerie quality. "Those I protected betrayed me a long time ago. Your forefathers. They kept me confined because they were afraid of my strength and what I might turn into. I cursed their phrase to convey my anguish in my wrath. Melissa, that curse is ingrained in you.

My heart was racing. "You cursed us? For retribution?

The Void muttered, "Yes." However, Melissa, you are unique. I sense it. The others are not like you. You are aware of pain. This cycle could be broken.

The weight of what it said was oppressive. As I tried to comprehend what it was saying, my brain was spinning. Was it being honest? Could this monster have come from my bloodline?

Damon grabbed my shoulder and murmured, "Melissa," forcefully. "Avoid letting it affect you. Keep in mind what it has done and continues to do. Lives have been wrecked by this. It is a manipulator, not a victim.

The Void's shape changed and the atmosphere around us changed before I could react. In the rubble, a vision emerged, blazing dimly.

The vision saw a dazzling, magnificent celestial creature standing in front of a human council. At first, they appeared to worship it, but later they betrayed it. Its cries of pain reverberated across the scene as they bound it in chains of light.

The Void's voice grew quieter, almost begging, "Do you see now?" "This is what your forefathers did to me. Like everyone else, they betrayed me. Additionally, you are their successor, Melissa.

"No," I said in a whisper while shaking my head. "This isn't possible."

Damon tightened his hold on my shoulder. Peek at me, Melissa. He spoke in a panicked, anxious tone. "This is a lie. History is being twisted to cast doubt on you. Avoid falling for that.

I looked in his direction, but the image gnawed at my determination from the corner of my eye. Could it be that the Void was correct? What if it had been destined for this fate by my lineage?

The Void's last words, "You are just like them, Melissa," replayed in my thoughts while my heart hurt with uncertainty. You will also betray me.

As I stood in the ruins, the image of my ancestors betraying the celestial entity haunted me. Doubt twisted my heart. The Void might be speaking the truth. Was this misery the result of my bloodline?

My thoughts were interrupted by the Void's voice, "You're hesitating." Its dark shape loomed over us, its eyes if they could be called eyes, gleaming with dark radiance. "Are you able to finally see? The rest of humanity was no different from your family. Greedy, cowardly, and self-centred.

"I—" My voice trailed off. I wondered if the blood coursing through me was tarnished by my prior transgressions as I stared down at my hands.

"Elissa!" I was startled back by Damon's voice. He moved in front of me, obstructing the Void's view. "Avoid letting it consume you. It is deceiving you.

"However, what if it is correct?" With a trembling voice, I whispered. "What if this is what my forefathers did? What if the Earth was cursed as a result of their betrayal?

With ferocious eyes, Damon seized my shoulders. "Even if such were the case, the Void's actions would remain unchanged. It is corrupted, slain, and destroyed. Take a look at all that we have lost as a result! No matter what has happened in the past, you shouldn't feel sorry for this.

I was grounded by his incisive remarks. He was correct. All that the Void had brought was suffering and devastation. No amount of treachery could make up for the pain it had brought about.

I continued, my voice getting louder, "I… I won't let it control me." I turned to face the Void, emerging from behind Damon. "This is where whatever transpired with my forefathers ends. I will not allow you to harm anyone else.

With a deep, icy chuckle that seemed to make the air itself vibrate, the Void laughed. It snarled, "You think you can stop me?" "Little one, you are nothing in comparison to me. You are merely a frail person with grandiose illusions.

Despite my stomach churning with anxiety, I answered, "We'll see about that," in a firm voice.

Damon moved to stand next to me, his hand lightly touching mine in a nonverbal show of encouragement. "We'll put an end to this," he stated forcefully. "With each other."

The shape of the Void started to change, becoming bigger and more dangerous. With its voice resonating like thunder, it asked, "You think you're ready for what's coming?" "Then confront me as I am!"

The change of the Void was terrifying. A celestial god of darkness, its shadowy form grew until it was almost divine in its dread. It weighed down on me like an insurmountable burden, its presence crushing.

Damon urged me to back up as the power of the Void started to spread out and crack the ground beneath us. "We need to retreat," he murmured frantically.

"But we can't simply walk away!" With a racing heart, I objected.

"We're not going anywhere permanently," he stated in a stern voice. "We must get back together and decide what to do next. Blindly charging in will only result in our death.

I reluctantly gave a nod. The ruins trembled as the Void's laughter reverberated behind us as we turned and fled.

The corruption had already begun to spread by the time we arrived at the edge of the ruins. The grass was withering and the trees were bending into strange forms as the once-green areas of the pack grew darker.

I gazed at the destruction and murmured, "This is worse than I thought," as my chest constricted.

Angry, Damon's jaw was curled into fists. It is accelerating. The power of the Void is increasing. If we don't put an end to it quickly

He didn't have to complete it. I was aware of the stakes.

Our comrades were waiting for us as soon as we arrived at the safety of the pack's boundary. However, there was a problem. Their motions were awkward and strange, and their eyes were dark.

Horror dawning on me, I muttered, "They're... they're corrupted."

Damon became stern-faced. The influence of the Void is growing. They are becoming shadows as a result.

My heart ached as I moved on and saw familiar faces among the corrupted. Desperately, I pleaded, "We must save them."

He put a hand on my shoulder and replied, "We will." However, we must first halt the source. The void.

Even from here, I could see the whirling whirlpool of blackness as I turned to face the wreckage. "How?" My question was hardly audible above a whisper.

Damon retrieved the artefact from his bag and said, "The artefact." In his hands, the odd thing pulsed slightly.

I was about to touch it when I heard a voice in my head. It sent a shudder down my spine by warning that "the power you seek will cost more than you c
an bear."

Fear seized me as I withdrew my hand and stared at the relic. How much would it cost? Could I afford the cost?
