Chapter 39 Tied to Mirror

Chapter 39 Tied to Mirror
We finally got out of there earlier. Three lonely vampires let us go, all because of Princess Tatiana. Since she seems to understand how I feel right now, she stayed quiet and didn’t try to talk to me again.

I felt weak and sat down on the second step near where the three destined women lay. It was like all my strength was used up from everything I heard and saw earlier. Now I can say there are really so many things in this world that I don’t think I’ll ever understand.

To be honest, I never wanted to come to this world, they were the only ones forcing me to come here. Did the Lancasters really bring me here against my will because Kaizer misses the woman named Cosette? Am I just a replacement?

I hugged myself when I felt my body getting cold too. I know Kaizer will be here any minute now.

I smiled bitterly at the Princess when she came close and wrapped a white cloak around me.

“Can I ask you something?”

She sat beside me and nodded gently at me.

“Did you love the vampire destined for you? Where is he now?”

Her face went blank at my question.

“I don’t know, Saera. I haven’t heard from him,” she answered flatly.

I was silent for a few seconds before I could think of another question to ask her.

“How do I get back to my world? The mirror isn’t here, it’s in Wisteria and Kaizer hid it well.”

She stared at me like she couldn’t believe what I said.

“Have you made up your mind, Saera?”

I nodded slowly. What reason do I have to stay in this world? I should have listened to my grandma’s advice from the start, never take off the necklace. How will I live normally among humans now that I’m a full vampire?

“I want to go back to my simple life. Far from this world, far from pain.”

I touched my chest lightly.

“When I was in the human world, I never cried, I only saw sweet smiles when I looked at myself in the mirror. But once I stepped into this world, my eyes are always blurry from tears that keep flowing.”

“You can find it, Saera, you just need to feel it. Destined women can sense exactly where their own mirrors are.”

I frowned at what she said.

“How?”

After being in Wisteria for so long, why can’t I feel where it is?

“You’ll feel it easily, Saera, because the mirror is part of us. Didn’t you feel it when you first saw the mirror back in the human world?”

I nodded slightly at what the princess said. I still remember how my body got cold and my hair stood on end when I first saw my reflection in the mirror that brought me here.

“The mirrors of the other three destined women in the prophecy also have strange effects on us. You felt it too with Aetherio’s mirror, right?”

I nodded quickly several times.

“Can’t I just cross through your mirror? Or through another woman’s mirror?”

Princess Tatiana shook her head gently at me.

“There’s only one mirror you can use to go back, the one you came from. The only thing other destined women’s mirrors can do is let you travel to different places in this world.”

I think I get it now. I need to go back to Wisteria because my mirror is the one that will take me back to where I belong.

“If I can sense my mirror, why can’t I feel it in Igor Wister–”

I didn’t finish what I was going to say when my own mind answered my question.

“The mirror isn’t hidden in Wisteria,” Princess Tatiana confirmed.

“Where could Kaizer have hidden it? What if he breaks it and I can never go back to our world?” I asked her, and she shook her head again several times.

“No vampire can break it because the moment it shatters, you’ll disappear from this world and can never go back to the human world again.”

I just stared blankly at what she said.

“Is it really that important? Why is my life tied to a simple mirror?”

Why is my connection here this strong?

“I’ll say it again, Saera, the mirror is part of us. We wouldn’t be here without them.”

She stood up and held out her hand to me.

“Come on, there’s something else you need to see.”

I took her hand, and once I stood up, she started walking again toward the far end of the huge room.

In the end, I found myself staring at a painting of a man with very cold eyes. If you look closely, it seems like he never smiled or laughed even once. Who is this emotionless yet handsome vampire?

“He is my mate.”

Did she hear my question? Why does she still keep the painting of the vampire who left her?

“It seems like you still miss him.”

I heard her snort at me.

“The time will come when he’ll show himself to me again. Not because he wants to see me, but to finally shatter my mirror.”

My chest ached again at what she said. So the vampire who made her curse this world is still alive.

“And this painting is the last place he’ll think to find my mirror.”

As she said this, the painting of the vampire slowly moved to the right. A narrow opening appeared when Princess Tatiana pulled back the dark cloth.

When I finally saw the mirror clearly, I stepped back a few times. It was covered in dust and I could barely see my reflection, but what caught my attention was the big crack on its upper part.

“Look, my mirror has cracked because of everything I’ve been through in this world. A crack that can never be fixed.”
