Chapter 31 Choose Side
The woman with the burned face stayed quiet after saying that Kaizer was the reason the women were dead, now covered in hard ice.
Huge blocks of ice stood there, each with a symbol carved on top representing each woman: Spade, Clubs, Heart. So, the woman with me now represents the Diamond.
I struggled to stand, wiping the tears from my eyes.
I felt sorry for what happened to these three women. Thinking about it, the woman with me was right. Our lives were peaceful in the other world, we were happy and safe. But why did the vampires let these three women end up like this? Why did their vampire mates just abandon them?
My hands began to trace the ice where the woman with my symbol lay. The Spade deity. Even though she was dead, her face looked so peaceful, like she was just in a deep sleep.
I don't know why, but my chest felt tight. I felt so bad for them, and I was angry at myself because all I could do was cry and be confused. I didn't have any power to help them.
I'm so confused. I just woke up next to Kaizer, he bit me and turned me into a full vampire, I healed wolves, and now? Suddenly, I see that the women like me are all dead?
I can't accept that the women who came from my world are dead because of the power of the man who only makes my heart race.
I've seen the ice Kaizer uses in fights many times. Compared to normal ice, his is stronger and clearer. If it was just normal ice around these women, it would have melted already.
This ice was from Kaizer.
Who should I believe? The women who I know feel the same way I do? Or the vampires I've only known for a short time? Is that why my grandma kept telling me never to take off the necklace she gave me? What about my grandfather? But he's a vampire!
"What do you want me to do? Even if you take me away from the Wisteria, you can't stop the other three from coming. Do you expect them to fall for an illusion too?"
I turned away from the three women lying silently.
"I was able to call you, I was able to stop the first woman who was supposed to cross into this world. I'll make sure I stop the other three, Saera."
There was confidence in her voice, like she had planned everything. But what is she saying about the first woman? Wasn't I the first? I quickly shook my head when I remembered the crazy vampire's laugh.
"Are you the reason the woman of the second prince of Aetherio was waiting for didn't arrive?"
She slowly nodded to me. Did she not know what Gavin might do to her if he found out she had stopped the woman he was waiting for?
"Why? Why didn't you let her cross over? That woman wasn't one of the four," I argued.
She should have just let her come, because Gavin's heartbreak is no joke. He has become a pain to all of Igor.
"Because that woman will play an important role for the four of you. She's also part of the prophecy, she'll also be part of the big sacrifice that traitor empire will make."
What really happened?
"Let me go back to Igor, let me ask the Lancasters for an explanation. I can't just believe what you're saying. I admit that more than half of my feelings agree with what you're saying, but I won't be quiet if I ignore what's screaming inside me."
I slowly put my hands on my chest.
"While you're blaming the second prince of Wisteria, my heart feels like it's being cut. The man you say killed these three women is none other than the vampire who waited for me for so long."
Her expression didn't even change when I said that.
"I was like that too, Saera. I am blinded by that foolish love, I won't let you be blinded by the vampires in Igor. I won't let what happened hundreds of years ago happen again, I won't let the number of women lying in those hard blocks of ice increase."
"But I need to talk to him! I know his gaze is real, I know his words are real-" I couldn't finish what I was saying because she silenced me with a hard slap that made me lose my balance and fall back to the floor. I just held my cheek where she slapped me.
"You're so selfish! Are you going to wait until the other three women are called before you believe me? Are you going to wait until more people get hurt?! If you're looking for a man, we have plenty on our world!"
My eyes widened at what she said. No! She's wrong about me.
"I didn't come here to find a man! I found Kaizer on my own! And since I stepped into this world, I've never tried to be selfish! Do you think you'd see me in front of you if I was selfish?! I chose to leave Kaizer to save the woman I thought was in danger!" I answered loudly, which she just shook her head at.
She slowly knelt down to be at my eye level. She held my cheeks and spoke softly.
"I understand you, Saera. Let's go home, let's go home to the place where we belong."
What is she talking about? I can't go back yet.
"No… I can't go home. I need to talk to him."
I tried to take her hands off me.
"They've poisoned your mind too much, Saera. I can explain things to you better when we're in the human world. Let's go back. Let's cut our ties on this world."
She slowly stroked my face.
What's happening to her?
"I can't. I can't. I can't leave."
Now both of her hands were holding my cheeks.
"Listen, only the two of us can stop their endless interference with the innocent women in our world. We can break the mirrors."
I frowned at what the woman said.
"Don't mirrors just appear every hundred years? Even if we break them, new ones will just appear. We can't break the tradition."
"Saera, the vampires will completely lose their connection to our world if we break all four mirrors at the same time. No new women will ever come here again. We can save so many, we'll never be bothered or used for their own selfish desires again."
