Talk With Lucia

Talk With Lucia
Sofia pov

I was conflicted about my next course of action. Should I keep this secret to myself for now, or should I tell Marco?
He had noticed my distance for the past few days and had tried to ask me but I always looked for ways to deflect the conversation to a more safer topic.
I was pregnant with Marco's child after our rendezvous, the night he had taken my virginity. I hadn't expected this to happen because I had  a hundred percent belief in my birth control pills.

“What am I going to do?” I whispered to myself.
I couldn't keep this to myself. Should I call my mom and tell her?
“No, she will tell me it's the normal cycle of marriage and even commend me for getting pregnant early.”
Telling my brothers wouldn't be advisable. What should I do? I was running out of time. I need to do something.
“Should I inform Lucia?” I wondered. She was also in the same situation as me. But would I be insensitive if I bothered her with such news?

My phone ringing disrupted my thoughts.
It was Lucia.
“Thank the Lord.” I muttered under my breath as I accepted the call.
“Hey Sof, what's up? I haven't heard from you in a while.” Hearing her voice made me feel a little relieved. She was one of the few people that could understand me.
“I'm fine, I was just contemplating if I should call you a few minutes ago.” I answered her, making myself comfortable on the side of my bed.
“Why? What happened? Is anything wrong?” I could hear the concern seep from her voice.
I kept silent.
“Sofia, talk to me.” She
“I, I'm pregnant Lucia.” I broke the news to her.

My announcement was met with complete silence.
“Lucia?” I called her name to make sure she was still here on the call with me.
When she didn't respond, I checked to see if the call was still ongoing.
“Oh my gosh, Sofia. Tell me you're joking.” Lucia sputtered. I guessed she was still in shock.
“No, I'm not. I'm not joking Lucia. I mean it. I'm pregnant with Marco's child.”
“Damn, Sofia. I can't seem to wrap my head around this. This means you and Marco did the deed?”

“Yes, we did.” I was close to tears right now. I guess pregnancy hormones were making me emotional.
“My God. How? When?” She was getting worried for me.
“It happened unexpectedly.”
“Oh my gosh. Did he take advantage of you?” Her voice went up.
“No! No, he didn't. I wanted it. I was the one that seduced him.” I confessed.
“I'm practically speechless right now.”
You just said something.” I replied with a teary voice.
We burst into unexpected nervous laughter.

“Lucia, I don't know what to do.”
“Poor Sof. We are literally in the same boat right now. Have you told Marco?”
“No, I haven't. You're the first person I'm saying this to.”
“I thought as much. Do you plan on keeping the baby?”
“Yes.” It wasn't something that needed a lot of thinking. I wasn't going to abort my baby because I was confused on how it's father was going to react.
I wanted this baby but the timing was just not right. We were still growing our relationship but I wasn't sure if this baby was either going to help us bond or tear us apart.

“Oh okay. That's a start. When do you intend on telling Marco?”
“That's what I don't know. I don't even know his view on wanting more kids.” I was already tearing up.
We haven't even had a conversation about kids.
“Okay. Does he suspect anything?”
“Yeah I think so. He knows something is up and hasn't been able to get anything from me.”
“You have to tell him Sofia. He has to know.” She advised me.
“But what if he doesn't want the baby?” That would break my heart. I was already falling for Marco and the thought of him not wanting more kids was like being stabbed in the heart by a dagger.

“You have to tell him or you won't know how he feels about this.”
“Yeah.” I nodded in resignation.
After a moment for silence, I asked her about herself.
“So how are you coping?” My tone was concerned.
“Well, I'm just there. My mom is on to something, I think she suspects something is wrong and has been watching me like a hawk after my discharge from the hospital.”
“Oh, Lucia. Are you going to tell her or let her come to get conclusion herself?”
“I don't know for now. I've still got some little time before I make that decision.” She sounded weak and drained.
I understood her.

“Alright, what about Kristoff Romanov?” I asked her, opening the can of worms. Kristoff Romanov was the big elephant in the room that we were tiptoeing talking about.
“Do you really want to know Sof?”
“Yes I do.”
Lucia kept silent, sighing before talking.
“He has tried reaching out to me on several occasions asking me to meet him.”
“Did you?” I waited with bated breath.
“Just once, that was the only time I succumbed.”
“It's alright. My offer still stands. I want you
“I’m still thinking about it. I don't know Sof. I still love him.” Her voice cracked.
“Oh Lucia.” I didn’t finish my statement. I had wanted to say men like Kristoff Romanov doesn't love. They only took, take what they want.
“Just think about it.” I cajoled her.
We switched the topic of conversation and talked about other random stuff.

“Alright thank you, Lucia. I really appreciate this and I feel much better just talking to you about it.” My gratitude was dripping all over my voice.
“You are welcome. What are friends for?”
“We are also cousins.” I put in laughing.
“Yeah, but we're friends because you're cool. With my other cousins, hell no, friendship wouldn't have worked between us.”
“Yeah that's true.”
“So I guess it's good-bye for now. Extend my greetings to your husband and Alyssa.”
“I will. And you have a nice day. Don't hesitate to let me know if you need anything. Anything, Lucia.”
“I won't.”
We ended the call on good terms and I was feeling better by the time I dropped the phone to take a nap.
