Chapter 70 How Can There Be Such a Shameless Person!
Bethany rubbed her temples, her voice cold as ice.
"Oliver, right? Where are you now?"
"I'm at the hospital where Marcus is staying! My wife got hit by some blind fool! You can come see me if you want, and I've got plenty of unknown stories to tell you!"
Bethany had never met anyone who expected her to come see them in person.
How could there be such a shameless person in the world!
Oliver hung up the phone, still lost in his fantasy of soon striking it rich.
Bethany must be interested in what he said—she'd probably come see him in person right away.
Then he could name his terms, and the Smith family's current problems wouldn't matter at all!
While thinking this, Oliver called his secretary.
"Tell those companies that if they don't want to work with the Smith family, fine. We'll pay whatever compensation the contracts require!"
The secretary hesitated. "That adds up to a lot of money. We'd have to put all the company's liquid assets into it."
Oliver didn't even care about that small amount now.
"Don't worry, I have a plan. It doesn't matter if those companies look down on our company—soon I'll be the one looking down on them! Once I sign a contract with Bethany, I can act however I want in all of Serenitia City!"
The secretary quickly agreed and went to handle the compensation contracts with those companies.
After hanging up, Bethany was furious, her heart aching!
"Damn the Smith family! I was thinking that since they raised Catherine, I'd let it go, but I didn't expect them to be so outrageous!"
When Aurora heard it was the Smith family calling, she quickly asked, "What did they say? Definitely nothing good. Deal with them quickly. I just heard they're also at the hospital—we can't let them run into Catherine. Those people are greedy and shameless. If they see Catherine, they'll definitely bother her."
Bethany felt the same way.
"Should we send Catherine abroad to school?"
Aurora shook her head, not thinking it was a good idea.
"Our daughter needs to hide from them? Catherine can go to school wherever she wants. She just needs to be happy—we'll make sure those people don't appear in front of her!"
"Besides, if we send Catherine abroad to school, won't she and Alexander rarely see each other? That's not good for building their relationship."
Most importantly, they couldn't bear to part with her!
They'd finally found their daughter—they wanted to see her every day!
"You're right. I'll arrange for someone to go beat up that damn Oliver first! Actually, let's beat up their whole family!"
Bethany quickly sent out a message.
Then she called Catherine, her voice flattering, loving, and a bit cautious.
"Catherine, it's me. How are you feeling today? What did you do?"
"Pretty good. I played chess with Grandpa this morning, and this afternoon I went with George to buy gifts for Grandma and Grandpa."
"Buying gifts is great! I'll transfer you money right away—just some pocket money. Buy yourself something too. Look how thin you are!"
Catherine was speechless.
In the month or two since she'd been home, she'd already received countless transfers of pocket money.
Now when Catherine saw her bank balance, she was a bit numb to it.
"No need, I still have money."
Bethany was almost in tears!
"Do you think our family is too poor? Don't worry, I'll go to work tomorrow! You don't need to worry about us going bankrupt!"
Catherine was at a loss for words.
The Windsor family going bankrupt? What a joke!
If the Windsor family really went bankrupt one day, Imperia City's GDP would go back twenty years. Not only was it impossible for the Windsor family to go bankrupt, but even if that day came, she had ways to bring them back to life.
"Okay, I understand."
As soon as Bethany hung up, Catherine instantly received a transfer of fifty million dollars.
Right after hanging up and transferring the money, Bethany's expression turned cold.
"What is Charles doing! Why hasn't he bankrupted those two families yet!"
Catherine had suffered so much—if they didn't bankrupt those two families, Bethany felt she couldn't sleep at night.
Aurora thought for a moment and held Bethany back. "Find time to ask Charles, but don't let Catherine know. She's so kind-hearted, she'd definitely feel bad."
When Bethany and Aurora thought about Catherine's past life, they hugged each other and cried!
Damn the Smith family!
Moon Laboratory
The entire lab used the world's most advanced equipment. Even the sinks had been replaced with automatic temperature-controlled ones, and they'd even replaced a batch of plants.
Catherine put on her uniform and entered the lab.
"Boss! That fiancé you tricked into this is amazing! He even replaced our lab toilets with ones that automatically change the seat covers!"
"How did he know we always wanted advanced toilets! We were going to make a bet where the loser would modify the data to create a fully automatic toilet!"
For these geniuses, modifying a toilet's data was a matter of minutes.
Catherine glanced at Mercury. "Where's the experimental data?"
"All here. Eli has ten Dream grass plants. Their whereabouts are still unknown—they might have entered the black market."
"Find a way to locate them."
Mercury clutched his head and screamed. "It's not about wanting to find a way! Our lab was also growing Dream grass, but we haven't contacted the lab at Tranquilwave Ocean yet! Who knows what Venus and the others are doing."
"Plus we're out of money."
Medical experiments require huge investments. Moon Laboratory often faced funding shortages, and Catherine had to make money by drawing designs and opening shops.
Catherine pulled out several black cards and tossed them over.
"This money should be enough. I'll figure out the rest."
Mercury's eyes practically lit up at the sight of money!
"So many black cards! Did you rob a bank?"
Uranus looked up from a pile of experimental data.
"Banks don't have this much money. She must have robbed at least a vault."
"That's illegal. If you get arrested someday, don't rat us out. We're not part of your gang."
Catherine rubbed her temples and efficiently tied her hair up with the hair tie George gave her, revealing her slender neck.
"It's pocket money from my family. Completely legal."
Because of their personal experiences, the members of Galactic Aurora Collective didn't like interacting with the outside world much and spent little time watching TV or browsing the internet.
They only knew Catherine had recently changed parents, but didn't know which family she'd gone to.
"Pocket money! You call Evergreen Bank black cards pocket money! Catherine, is your family part of the mafia or something!"
"Catherine's fiancé is rich, right? When can we marry into that too?"
So rich—why even do experiments!
Catherine picked up the experimental data and swatted at them.
"Get lost. I want to see new data in three minutes, or you two will take turns cleaning the toilets."
Mercury and Uranus ran off immediately, leaving no trace behind.
