Chapter 385 Stay Overnight
Chapter 385 Stay Overnight
Philip shot back, "Mom! If she's staying here, I'm moving out!"
Emma said with a smile, "Mrs. Windsor, I wouldn't dare treat this like my own home. My family doesn't even feed me, but it's so much better here!"
Hearing that Emma couldn't even get food at home, Aurora's heart ached again.
"Look at you, child, so thin. From now on, you and Catherine should take supplements together to build up your health. I'll talk to your mother about this."
"Thank you, Mrs. Windsor."
Philip's words were stopped short by Aurora's glare.
Emma had such a hard life, and she'd known Catherine for so many years.
What's wrong with staying at home for a few days?
"Stop your nonsense. This house isn't yours anyway. If you want to move out, go ahead and get lost."
Philip was speechless.
If they really wanted him to leave, he’d probably hesitate, to be honest.
Aurora looked at the somewhat uncomfortable Gabriella with a smile.
"Gabriella too, it's getting late. Why don't you stay here? If nothing else, we have plenty of spare rooms. There's an empty guest room right next to Charles's room."
Philip: "That's not my..."
Aurora said coldly, "From now on, you don't have a study in this house. Got it?"
Philip's eyes widened, and suddenly he understood!
Charles was dating Gabriella?
How did he only just notice?
It's just a study - for Charles's happiness, he didn't need such an out-of-touch place in the house anymore!
Gabriella quickly waved her hands. "No, no, that's too much trouble. I'll just go home!"
As she spoke, she stood up. Before she could leave the dining room, Aurora grabbed at her chest and sank onto the sofa.
"Why does my chest hurt so much... Charles, I think I see your great-grandmother... She says Gabriella must stay. It's not safe to go out at this hour!"
Charles watched Aurora’s over-the-top, clumsy act. Even though he knew she was performing, he had to play along.
If he didn't cooperate with her act, he probably wouldn't even be able to get through the front door tomorrow!
Aurora would eventually scold him as the biggest unfilial son in the family.
What's more... he did have his own selfish reasons!
Turning to look at Gabriella, Charles said gently, "We do have spare rooms. This place was specifically bought for Catherine's schooling. It's very close to your work. Would you like to stay?"
Emma covered half her face with her hand and leaned over. "Mr. Windsor, want to bet I can get this lady to stay with just one sentence?"
"No way. Who do you think you are?"
"Let's bet. If I win, you give me that case with the Kate family you handled last time!"
Philip was puzzled. "That case - the Kate family doesn't have good odds. If you want them to win, that's impossible."
"Who said I want them to win? Don't worry about it. You won't lose out by giving it to me."
Philip wasn't handling that case, but giving it to Emma wouldn't really be a problem. A case with a complete chain of evidence wouldn't have any possibility of being overturned.
"Fine, go ahead."
He was genuinely curious what Emma could say to make Gabriella willing to stay!
Emma went over and took Gabriella's arm, while pushing aside her bangs from her forehead.
"Remember me?"
Gabriella froze, looking at the somewhat familiar face before her, and suddenly remembered!
"It's you!"
"It's me. I'm scared to stay alone. Will you keep me company?"
Gabriella laughed. "You're timid? With all due respect, I've never seen a delicate young lady who could take on several people by herself."
When studying abroad, Gabriella had run into a group of bikers who grabbed her bag and sped off.
That bag was a gift from Charles, and she didn't want to lose it like that.
Emma appeared out of nowhere, grabbed an iron rod, and chased after them, forcibly getting Gabriella's bag back!
Emma's face was covered in blood at the time, her hair all stuck together. When faced with Gabriella's concern and worry, she casually waved it off and left.
Gabriella hadn't recognized her because the Emma from back then and the Emma now were just too different!
Emma said modestly, "Couldn't help it, life was a bit rough back then."
Catherine spoke almost immediately. "I sent you out to buy things, and you ran off to play hero, getting yourself all bloody."
"I saw her crying on the street and felt bad! I just can't stand seeing beautiful women cry."
Gabriella smiled.
"Alright, then I'll impose for one night. Thank you."
Philip hadn't expected Emma to actually get Gabriella to agree to stay!
He glanced at Emma, her expression saying everything. His mouth twitched. “…You’re kind of terrifying when you want to be.”
Emma rolled up her sleeves and grabbed Philip by the collar. "So does Mr. Windsor want to spar with me?"
Catherine's cold voice came from behind.
"Emma, let him go. Don't throw him, put him down gently!"
If Catherine had known Emma would have endless energy every day, she wouldn't have taught her judo back then!
Just looking at her now gave her a headache!
Late at night, Catherine released her fingers from Emma's pulse.
"Nothing major. No smoking, drinking, or coffee. No staying up late. Take good care of yourself. Now go to bed."
"...Isn't that killing me?"
"If you keep destroying yourself, you'll die anyway without doing anything. Then you can completely forget about the Kate family fortune."
Emma caught Catherine’s warning look and let out an awkward laugh.
"Okay, okay, I got it."
"Why didn't you come find me?"
"I was worried Ms. Windsor wasn't having an easy time. I wanted to wait until I got everything from the Kate family, then bring you back in style!"
Catherine just shook her head, a little helpless. "The flowers at Grandma's grave - you left them?"
"Yes! Grandma was my family too. Not being able to see her off is my regret. The offerings are just a small token."
"Grandma won't blame you. Go to bed."
Emma stood up, and just as she got up, she heard voices outside.
She opened Catherine's window curiously, and as soon as she did, she saw Alexander standing on the balcony.
Emma was speechless.
Well, that was awkward!
Fortunately, Alexander didn't seem to mind Emma's presence and turned to enter Catherine's room.
Emma carefully identified where the voices were coming from and found they were all coming from rooms upstairs.
"Gabriella, you're getting more and more outrageous! Not coming home this late at night?"
Gabriella said calmly, "I'm almost thirty. I have the freedom not to come home."
"Stop talking nonsense. I'm worried about you. You're so selfish!"
"You're my daughter. I know you best. Not coming home now - you're just out there looking for men, aren't you? So desperate? How shameful!"
"All the men you find are bad. Only the ones I introduce are good men suitable for you! Don't be too picky. A woman who can't have children is worthless. Stop dreaming!"
