Chapter 157 Marcus Discovers Elodie's Bracelet
The moment Oliver heard about money, all his pain disappeared!
Celeste sneered inwardly.
Given how biased Elodie was, treating Catherine like a treasure since childhood, that bracelet was probably deliberately left to Catherine by Elodie!
Why should it go to Catherine? Elodie's things should be left to her real granddaughter Clara!
That bracelet was so valuable, it was a waste on Catherine. If only Clara could have it... Celeste's eyes were full of scheming.
"Oliver, Catherine must have stolen that bracelet. Now that she has nothing to do with us, let's report to the police that she took your mom's stuff. How can she not return it?"
Oliver had been beaten up by Catherine and his face still hurt. He hesitated at these words.
"We have no proof that the bracelet belonged to my mom. What if Catherine insists the bracelet has nothing to do with Elodie? What do we do then?"
"Then what? That bracelet is so expensive! Are we just giving it to Catherine?"
Celeste endured the pain throughout her body and wouldn't let it go!
Of course Oliver wasn't willing!
That bracelet was so valuable, how could they just give it to Catherine for nothing?
"Here's what we'll do. I'll find some media outlets and buy some trending topics, saying our family lost a priceless treasure. After the news spreads, I don't believe she won't be scared. Then she'll definitely return the bracelet!"
Oliver had it all planned out. As long as he got people to cyberbully Catherine, she definitely couldn't handle it and would return the item!
Behind them, Brent, who had been eavesdropping, quietly opened his eyes and sneaked away while they weren't paying attention.
Such an expensive treasure, how could it belong to Oliver?
Catherine was the future daughter-in-law chosen for him by the Smith family and the Brown family. Her things should rightfully be his!
Night fell especially early in Tranquil County.
Stars filled the sky. Juniper beside her was sleeping soundly. Catherine had just let down her hair and lay down when she suddenly heard faint rustling sounds.
The old house was well-maintained, so there wouldn't be snakes or rodents. That could only mean one thing—a person!
Catherine glanced at Juniper beside her, took out her phone, and opened a message.
Alkaid: "Boss, someone broke into your house. Should we handle it?"
"No need."
There were also several photos taken by Alkaid. From the figure, it was clearly Brent!
Catherine had just put away her phone and crept out of the room when Juniper opened her eyes.
"Catherine."
Why did Catherine get up? To use the bathroom?
But their room had a bathroom!
Juniper was puzzled when she suddenly heard strange sounds. She immediately tensed up!
This was Catherine's first time in Tranquil County. What if she encountered some danger?
Juniper didn't even bother putting on shoes and rushed out to find Catherine.
In the darkness, Brent hunched over, carefully searching for Catherine's room. He had paid several local fishermen to find out that Catherine had entered this house.
This was the biggest house in Tranquil County. Could Catherine really be from some wealthy family?
At this possibility, Brent's heart burned with excitement!
Thinking of Catherine's stunning face and graceful figure, Brent couldn't help licking his lips, his face full of greed and lewdness.
As long as he found Catherine and took advantage of her, would he still worry about not winning her heart?
Brent's mind was full of filthy thoughts. He didn't notice that on a ceiling beam not far above his head, a pair of cold eyes were watching him!
She couldn't make too much noise, or it would wake Juniper.
Catherine touched the watch on her wrist, aimed at the target's carotid artery, and fired!
Brent fell silently to the ground. Catherine flipped down from the beam and looked coldly at the half-dead person on the ground.
If she weren't worried that making a move at The Windsor Mansion would cause trouble for Juniper and the Windsor family, Brent wouldn't have gotten off with just passing out!
Juniper came running with a flashlight to Catherine's side.
"Catherine! Are you okay? What happened?"
"I'm fine. There was a burglar who broke in."
Juniper looked at Brent lying on the ground, her eyes cold!
"How could there be a thief? When did the Windsor family's security become so terrible!"
Catherine shook her head. "I don't know. I came out when I heard the noise, and he was already lying on the ground, covered in injuries. Probably a gambler from around here."
There were indeed quite a few people in Tranquil County who gambled all night and couldn't pay their debts. Beatings like this weren't common but were reasonable.
Juniper didn't doubt it. She called the resting butler and had Brent dragged away to the police overnight. Then she looked at Catherine with a serious expression.
"Next time something like this happens, call me. I'm the older sister—it's not your turn to step up yet! If something happened to you, I wouldn't want to live either!"
This was the first time she spoke to Catherine like this, and her eyes were red.
Catherine pressed her lips together, looking at Juniper before her.
"But you were very tired and needed rest. I didn't want anyone to disturb you."
Juniper froze.
When Catherine said she was tired and wanted to rest this afternoon, was it actually to let her rest?
When she got up, she noticed Catherine's blanket was cold, which meant Catherine hadn't lain down while she was sleeping.
Juniper felt happy inside but still scolded with a stern face: "I'll take good care of myself, I promise! But from now on, you can't handle things like this alone, understand?"
Catherine nodded. Her gaze fell on Juniper's bare feet. Clearly Juniper was so worried about her that she didn't even notice her own situation!
"Juniper, can you promise me you won't tell anyone what's about to happen?"
"What?"
Juniper was still confused about what Catherine was going to do when she suddenly felt her body lift off the ground!
Catherine had actually picked her up and carried her back to the room!
"Remember to wear shoes from now on. Go to sleep."
Juniper looked at Catherine, eyes wide with shock, not knowing what to say!
She was carried back to the room by Catherine?
Wasn't Catherine's strength a bit too much?
Catherine didn't care about Juniper's shock. She lay down and closed her eyes to sleep.
Juniper lay down too, and after a moment, laughed quietly. She turned over and hugged Catherine beside her, her voice cheerful.
"I won't tell anyone. I'm not sharing how adorable you are with them!"
This was a secret that belonged only to her and Catherine!
The next day, at The Windsor Mansion.
Marcus sat in the garden reading the newspaper, browsing recent major events.
Aurora finished watering the plants and sat beside him enjoying afternoon tea.
"Dad, look at this news. It says someone's family lost a bracelet. This bracelet looks really valuable. How could they not keep such a thing safe?"
"Let me see."
Marcus put down his newspaper and took the phone Aurora handed him. The moment he opened the screen, he was utterly shocked!
"This bracelet—it's Elodie's bracelet!"
"What? Dad, you recognize it?"
Marcus opened the image and zoomed in and out many times. Finally, his hands trembled with excitement, and tears welled up in his old eyes!
Marcus nodded, recalling the past.
"This photo is quite old, but it's definitely the bracelet I gave Elodie back then! Elodie loved this bracelet and said she would leave it to our child in the future. But when Elodie passed away, the bracelet should have been buried with her. Who posted this message? Find out for me!"
Seeing Marcus so agitated, Aurora knew the bracelet had significant origins and quickly agreed.
"Okay!"
Marcus looked at the image on the phone, tears welling up, his emotions mixed.
"Elodie, are you still alive? If you are, why haven't you come to find me?"
