Chapter 149 Heartless Person
Hearing Catherine agree, Alexander's smiling face was reflected in the spotlessly clean glass window.
His voice carried a low, alluring tone.
"I'll let it go this time, but next time I hope you'll remember what you promised me. Even if it's just having a meal together, I'll look forward to it."
Just thinking about having dinner with Catherine made him patient even with those annoying partners. Whenever he had free time, he'd been looking up which restaurants girls liked to go to for dates lately, but she had quietly left Imperia City without a word.
What a heartless person!
Did she really think it was just a meal?
Alexander knew deep down that it was probably because Catherine hadn't taken him to heart yet, so the things he asked for could be forgotten.
This realization left him feeling somewhat bitter.
Catherine touched her nose, unable to tell if she felt ashamed or guilty.
"I know, this time was my fault. When I get back, I'll definitely keep you company."
"Okay."
After hanging up, Catherine looked at the call log on her phone. When exactly did he start calling her every day?
Was Alexander really that free?
Putting down her phone, Catherine simply took out the watch she had taken from Alexander earlier.
She had promised to modify it and return it to him. Since she had time now, she might as well study how to handle it.
Dylan watched Catherine's serious profile in the rearview mirror.
Catherine was so serene and elegant, with a composed and graceful demeanor.
Thinking about what happened at Bright Heal Hospital, Dylan got angry.
"Ms. Windsor, if you run into anyone from the Smith family, please don't tell them your identity. That family is just greedy and insatiable. I used to think they treated you well, but I was completely wrong."
"The Smith family?"
Dylan told her about running into Oliver at the hospital.
"If you see them, just ignore them!"
Catherine nodded, fitting the last component back in place. The modified men's watch was luxurious yet understated, with every diamond full and dazzling, shining brilliantly.
This watch really matched Alexander's personal style.
Dylan continued to remind Catherine: "I don't think they watched your birthday livestream, so they probably still don't know your identity."
If Oliver knew Catherine was from the Windsor family, he'd go crazy!
A top-tier family like the Windsor family kept their wealth a secret. The Windsor family wasn't on those rich lists simply because they didn't want to be!
Someone greedy and petty like Oliver would definitely try to extort Catherine. They absolutely couldn't let him find out.
Catherine smiled lightly and nodded.
"It's fine. Whether they know or not, I won't pay attention to them. I have nothing to do with them now."
After learning that Elodie also had no connection to the Smith family, Catherine's heart had finally settled!
She had only tolerated the Smith family before for Elodie's sake, not wanting to upset her.
But Elodie knew everything.
Catherine looked at the bracelet on her slender wrist. Last year at an auction, a similar bracelet sold for seven million dollars.
Since Elodie supported her, what did the Smith family matter to her?
Dylan felt relieved seeing Catherine had it figured out.
He was just worried Catherine was too kind and that her kindness would be taken advantage of, and the Smith family would end up hurting her!
As soon as the car stopped at the entrance of Tranquil County, Juniper, who had gotten the news, rushed down from her lab and threw her arms around Catherine as she got out of the car.
"Catherine! You finally came to see me!"
Juniper didn't look well, with dark circles under her eyes, looking particularly haggard. She must have been staying up late a lot recently.
But when she saw Catherine, she instantly smiled.
"Juniper, I brought you lots of things, all prepared by Mom."
Catherine pointed to the bags and packages behind her. Aurora had packed the car full of things for Juniper.
"Great! Mom brought me Coleslaw!"
Juniper hooked one arm around Catherine's neck while calling for her assistant to unload the things.
"Come on, let me show you around. The farms over here all belong to our lab."
Juniper led Catherine toward the breeding area, looking proud: "I'll tell you a secret - those over there are edible!"
Catherine felt a bit helpless.
Even if they were edible, seeing these things every day, Juniper must be sick of eating them by now, right?
"How's everything at home lately?"
Catherine selectively told Juniper about recent events, leaving Juniper stunned.
"Catherine, slow down. Let me process this - there's too much information. I don't know whether to be more shocked that Grandpa and Grandma are divorcing, or that Grandma isn't Dad's mother, or that Grandma being in the ICU was all Esme's doing?"
All these things together left Juniper shocked!
What was all this?
How long had she been away from home for so many things to happen?
Amazing, simply amazing.
"Juniper, why did the family adopt Esme in the first place?"
"Oh that. Back then, Lila got sick and dreamed that God sent her a child. Later, when she saw Esme abandoned on the road, she insisted it was the child God sent and had to adopt her."
Juniper shrugged helplessly.
"If she wanted to adopt, fine. It's just one more mouth to feed, and our family can afford it. Plus, after she adopted Esme, she really did stop bothering Aurora as much, so that was good."
Catherine frowned slightly. "Found on the roadside?"
"That's what Grandma said, but I think..."
Juniper lowered her voice, hooking Catherine's neck and leaning close to her ear to whisper: "Maybe Esme is Grandma's illegitimate daughter! She's been so good to Esme, better than to us."
Catherine looked at Juniper, speechless, and said flatly: "Esme is Lila's biological granddaughter."
Catherine handed Juniper the paternity test report she had prepared. The data and information were clear as day. Juniper's mouth dropped open on the spot.
"This is absolutely ridiculous!"
Catherine looked at Juniper in front of her.
She was wearing a faded uniform, her hair simply tied back with the hair tie Catherine had given her last time. When she pulled Catherine along, her hands had a thin layer of calluses and even some traces of frostbite.
Though they were both from the Windsor family, Juniper lived a hard life for the sake of scientific research.
Catherine took out a small box from her bag and handed it to Juniper.
"What's this? A gift from you?"
"Yes, it's from me. It can make the calluses on your hands disappear and prevent frostbite."
Juniper's eyes lit up!
Although she didn't care much about these things, she was still a girl who loved beauty.
It's just that sometimes the research environment wasn't that good, and she had to do things herself, working in cold labs even when she had to grit her teeth through it.
Last time she went back to the Windsor family, she had carefully hidden the wounds on her hands so her family wouldn't notice.
She didn't expect Catherine to notice and quietly prepare a gift for her.
How could Catherine be so wonderful!
So thoughtful, kind, and lovely!
Juniper held Catherine's face and kissed it several times, feeling warm inside.
"Thank you, Catherine! I love it so much, I love you!"
