Chapter 99: We Still Have Now and the Future!
Jared stared at Alexander for a long time, then suddenly remembered the last time at the bar when Catherine was dancing with a man on the dance floor. He had even recorded a video, planning to post it in the Faceless Ones internal group chat.
Look at that, Catherine finally had a romantic encounter!
"I never thought your romantic encounter would be with Shadow Syndicate's Nightfall, Catherine. You're amazing!"
Jared gave Catherine a thumbs up, his face full of pride.
That's Catherine for you, always impressive!
Alexander's lips curved into a smile as he glanced at Catherine meaningfully.
Catherine lifted her foot and kicked at Jared. "Have you cleared all the bombs in this hospital?"
Jared dodged skillfully. "Not yet. Ethan planted forty-eight bombs in this hospital. I'm still looking for them."
Speaking of bombs made Jared angry.
Last time at The Velvet Lounge, Ethan and Eli had also planted bombs everywhere. Jared spent the whole night doing nothing but defusing bombs!
He didn't even have time to say hi to the guy having a romantic encounter with Catherine. It really pissed him off!
Fortunately, he got another chance to meet him this time, and he turned out to be Catherine's fiancé. Just thinking about it made Jared excited!
"Hello Mr. Howard, I'm a member of Faceless Ones. After you and Catherine get married, we'll be your shared marital assets! Please take care of us!"
Catherine couldn't help herself and kicked Jared in the back.
"Thirty minutes. For every bomb you fail to defuse, I'll dock a month's salary."
"You're so heartless!"
Thinking about his already pitiful paycheck, Jared shed tears, said goodbye to Alexander, and went to defuse the bombs.
Alexander called out to Jared: "Shadow Syndicate also has members skilled in bomb disposal. They'll go with you."
"Oh, that's so kind of you. You're such a good person!"
Catherine looked over coolly. "Fifteen minutes. If you defuse fewer bombs than Shadow Syndicate's people, I'll dock a year's salary."
A year's salary!
He didn't make much to begin with!
Jared left indignantly, carrying his glorious mission to compete with Shadow Syndicate's people in defusing bombs.
Now he and Shadow Syndicate's people were mortal enemies!
Alexander opened a medical mask from the desk and carefully put it on Catherine.
He was more than half a head taller than her, so when he spoke, he had to lean down slightly, making his voice sound like it was coming from his chest.
"Being so competitive with my people too?"
"That's how it should be. You don't want Shadow Syndicate's people to be weaker than Faceless Ones, do you?"
Alexander smiled and reached out to brush Catherine's hair back, tucking it behind her ear.
"Of course not. But I just think people who are too weak can't protect my fiancée. Shadow Syndicate's people started out protecting themselves, but later it was also to protect the people I want to protect. Your Faceless Ones is the same, right?"
"The same."
People like them operated year-round in the most dangerous zones internationally, surrounded by danger, filled with desolation, blood, and crime.
Catherine created Faceless Ones initially just to protect the people she rescued from Galactic Aurora Collective.
She had once been a member of Galactic Aurora Collective herself. They were saving themselves, protecting themselves, and also protecting the family they wanted to protect!
The year she was taken to Galactic Aurora Collective, she managed to save herself and learned all kinds of skills alongside other Galactic Aurora Collective members.
When she returned to Elodie's side, she specially prepared a potion to hide all traces of being an assassin, so Elodie wouldn't worry.
Elodie said nothing, just held her and kept saying it was good that she was back, as long as her baby was by her side.
During that time, besides Elodie, no one looked for her!
Oliver and Celeste didn't care about her safety at all. Even when she returned to Galactic Aurora Collective multiple times later, no one knew what she was doing outside.
Catherine looked at her hands and smiled self-mockingly under her mask.
At least she protected Elodie, and in the future, she would have more family she wanted to protect.
Alexander sensed her subtle emotional change and held her hand, enveloping it in his warm palm.
"Don't think about the past. We still have the present and the future. Don't be sad."
How did he know she was thinking about the past?
Alexander looked into those eyes. Now they only reflected his image, making his heart incredibly satisfied!
He picked up a mask and handed it to her.
"Could you help me? I can't see my own face."
Catherine took the mask, somewhat speechless.
Even if he couldn't see his own face, there was a mirror in this office. Couldn't he see it?
Meeting his expectant gaze, Catherine had no choice but to take the mask and carefully put it on him.
"Let's go. Ethan's brother's room is arranged next door. Right now it's just Ethan and his brother."
Catherine followed Alexander into the hospital room. Ethan was sitting by the bed, peeling an apple for the middle-aged man lying in bed.
Hearing the movement at the door, Ethan immediately stood up alertly, pointing the fruit knife at the door, his face full of wariness.
Catherine ignored his action and walked straight to the man lying in the hospital bed.
"Give me your hand."
The man lying in bed looked terrible, his lips an abnormal dark purple. He extended his hand toward Catherine.
Ethan looked shocked. His muscles were clearly tensed, guarding against these two people approaching, yet he felt no wariness when Catherine came near!
"You!"
He raised his hand to pull Catherine away, but Alexander from behind grabbed his wrist.
Those sharp, hawk-like pupils stared at Ethan as he said coldly: "Ethan, since you want to see Phantom Doctor Moon, such rudeness won't do."
"She's Phantom Doctor Moon?"
"Since you've arranged so many people in the area, don't you know who's approaching?"
Ethan withdrew his hand awkwardly, only to find that the spot Alexander had gripped had lost all feeling!
Among all the people he'd fought, only one person had such chilling strength and killing intent!
"You're Nightfall! Since Moon is here, I'll agree to your conditions too, but I don't understand why you want the director of Angel's Haven Orphanage?"
As one of the conditions for Phantom Doctor Moon to treat his brother, Ethan had to hand over the director of Angel's Haven Orphanage.
Alexander let out a cold laugh, standing between Catherine and Ethan, not giving him any chance to get close to Catherine.
Alexander's voice carried boundless coldness and killing intent, not hiding his hostility toward Ethan at all.
"It's getting cold, and my fiancée is sensitive to the cold. I happen to need someone to make a human leather coat for my fiancée. The rest can be used for decoration, as a display piece. What do you think?"
Human leather coat? Ethan's eyes widened instantly!
"What kind of joke is this? You went through all this trouble to take someone just to make a coat?"
"Am I joking or not—don't you know?"
