Chapter 112 Using the Plan Against Itself

Lewis gripped Daphne's wrist tightly, not even bothering to look at Lorenzo.

He had nothing to say to him, the illegitimate child.

"No, I can't go back!" Daphne suddenly remembered she hadn't gotten what she came for!

Her eyebrows furrowed as she started to struggle, but to Lewis, it seemed like she didn't want to leave in front of Lorenzo.

This only made Lewis angrier. He tightened his grip on Daphne's wrist and practically shoved her into the passenger seat. "Daphne, don't forget, you're still an employee of the company!"

That one sentence was enough to make Daphne stop struggling.

She looked at Lewis with a sense of helplessness, feeling a myriad of grievances she wanted to voice, but when she met his furious eyes, she couldn't say a word.

She could only sigh in resignation, unbuckle her seatbelt, glance at Lorenzo, and let Lewis take her away.

Even though the crisis was averted, Lorenzo couldn't feel any relief.

Watching Lewis take Daphne away, he felt a mix of emotions he couldn't quite describe, his eyebrows knitted tightly together as he cursed under his breath.

Jagger arrived late. "Did you stop her? What was she here to get, anyway?"

"She came for the old contract." Lorenzo replied.

Jagger felt a bit awkward, never expecting Daphne to want something so useless.

He had drafted that contract himself, knowing it was airtight.

"That's it?"

Lorenzo's face darkened even more upon hearing this. "Next time, get your facts straight before calling me, you idiot!"

Jagger was taken aback by Lorenzo's anger. Was it really necessary to get this worked up over a mistake in intelligence?

Lorenzo kicked the car door in frustration before storming off.

Back at the office, Lewis dragged Daphne into his office.

"Daphne, I need an explanation! The company is in chaos right now, with so many things going wrong inside and out. As my secretary, you should be by my side. Where did you go?"

This was the first time Daphne had seen Lewis so angry because of her.

If she didn't know he had someone else in his heart, Daphne might have thought he was in love with her.

With her eyebrows furrowed, Daphne hesitated before asking, "Are you angry? Why?"

That one question managed to calm Lewis down. He realized he had been too agitated, especially when faced with her innocent eyes, which only made him more annoyed. "Get out!"

Yes, this was the real Lewis, the attitude he should have towards her.

Daphne glanced at the empty trash can, took a deep breath, smiled slightly, bowed, and left.

The board meeting was about to start, and Daphne was anxious to sneak out and retrieve the contract to review it again.

Nolan, seeing Daphne's eagerness, spoke up. "Don't waste your efforts. Trust me, Mr. Anderson will be fine."

Though he couldn't say much, he could give her a hint.

Daphne, being quick-witted, soon caught on to Nolan's implication.

She looked at Nolan in disbelief. "A calculated move?"

"Just do your job." Having said what he could, Nolan felt he had done his part for them.

Could it really be? Daphne suddenly felt a sense of realization, her eyes widening in disbelief as she sat at her desk, unable to snap out of it.

But soon, Daphne laughed at her own naivety and overestimation of herself.

How naive she had been to think Lewis was a weakling who needed her help.

How could she forget that Lewis had been formidable since birth?

Daphne took a sip of water, forcing herself to calm down.

At two in the afternoon, the board meeting officially began. As Lewis's personal secretary, Daphne naturally had to accompany him to the conference room.

Even though she had some guesses, Daphne still felt a bit worried as she looked at Lewis.

The online attacks on Lewis had reached an extreme level, with people even holding banners outside the company 24/7. If not for the strong security, they might have dragged him out and beaten him.

No matter how strong Lewis was, Daphne couldn't imagine how he could turn things around at this point.

In the conference room, all the shareholders were seated, looking at Lewis with eyes full of discontent.

The Anderson Group's stock had plummeted recently, causing significant losses for everyone, so naturally, they were furious at the person they saw as responsible.

"Lewis, look at the mess you've made! The Anderson Group is in shambles now!" The first to speak was Casey West, the most senior shareholder after Vernon, with significant influence.

His attack made it clear he was siding with Lorenzo.

Daphne, following behind Lewis, felt Casey's anger and instinctively looked at Lewis, worried he might not hold up.

However, Lewis didn't seem to care about Casey's anger. He calmly walked to his seat and sat down. "All those rumors outside, do you all really believe them?"

With that, he dismissed all the gossip.

But Vernon spoke up. "We're here today to solve problems, Lewis. You're clearly not suited for your current position. You're still young and need time to mature."

Hearing this, Lewis couldn't help but laugh.

He knew Vernon didn't support him, but to show it so openly in front of everyone was still a bitter pill to swallow.

He glanced at Vernon and then spoke calmly. "This issue is a lapse on the Anderson Group's part and the project manager's fault. How is it all my fault now? The nursing home project was approved by the board. I don't believe all the blame lies with me."
