Chapter 102 Overwhelmed by Favor

Lorenzo reached out to pat Daphne's shoulder to comfort her, but his hand stopped midway and he pulled it back.

"You should try talking to Lewis. He's the one running this project," Lorenzo said sincerely.

Although his suggestion made sense, Daphne couldn't shake the feeling that something was off. She couldn't pinpoint what it was, so she kept her head down.

The narrow car fell silent, with only the sound of raindrops hitting the roof.

Lorenzo broke the silence first. "You must be exhausted today. When you get home, make sure to take a good rest and soak in a bath."

"Okay, I will."

They chatted intermittently.

After about half an hour, the car stopped at the entrance of Daphne's apartment complex.

The driver, seeing they had arrived, reminded them, "Mr. Anderson, Ms. Sullivan, we're here."

Daphne glanced at the name of the complex under the streetlight, confirming it was indeed her home. She unbuckled her seatbelt and said, "Thanks for tonight, Mr. Anderson."

"It's nothing, really. Take this umbrella; it's still raining outside." Lorenzo handed her the umbrella he had used earlier.

Daphne took it. "Alright, I'll return it to you tomorrow."

Lorenzo chuckled and waved his hand dismissively. "It's just an umbrella. How much could it be worth? It's late, you should head in."

Without saying more, Daphne opened the car door and walked into the complex with the umbrella.

Lorenzo kept the car's headlights on to illuminate her path, as the streetlights were flickering.

The driver, seeing Daphne had disappeared into the complex, said, "Mr. Anderson, Ms. Sullivan is inside."

Lorenzo rubbed his temples. "Got it. Drive back to Greenwood Estate."

The driver turned the car around without hesitation.

Daphne watched Lorenzo's car drive away, staring until it vanished from sight.

"Lorenzo, what kind of person are you really?" she muttered.

Today, Daphne realized she couldn't quite understand Lorenzo. He seemed less kind than he appeared.

Time flew by, and the next day arrived, Daphne went to the Anderson Group and handed the signed contract to Lewis.

Lewis glanced at the contract on his desk, picked it up, and examined it carefully before flipping through it.

"Alright, you can go now." With that, Lewis stuffed the contract back into the drawer.

Daphne hesitated for a few seconds before speaking tentatively. "I want to discuss something with you, but I'm not sure if you're willing to listen."

Lewis's eyes flashed with interest. "Oh? Go ahead."

Seeing Lewis's curiosity, Daphne brought up the issue of the elderly receiving less money and asked, "Can we reduce our commission a bit?"

She felt anxious as she spoke, fearing Lewis would disagree.

Lewis picked up the contract and began modifying it right in front of Daphne. After finishing, he handed it back to her. "How about this split?"

Daphne took the contract and reviewed it. She was genuinely surprised by the changes.

"You're really willing to give up some profit?" Daphne asked, astonished.

Lewis chuckled and took the contract back from her. "Of course, but I have one condition. I'm not sure if you'll agree."

Daphne's eyes, like stars, looked at Lewis.

They stared at each other, seeing into each other's eyes.

"Go ahead." she spoke.

"I want you to have dinner with me. I think that's a reasonable request, right?" Lewis said, resting his chin on his hand as he gazed at Daphne.

Daphne's lips moved slightly, and after a moment of hesitation, she agreed.

"Good girl," Lewis said softly.

Hearing this, Daphne shivered and quickly said, "Mr. Anderson, if there's nothing else, I'll get back to work."

"Alright." Lewis watched Daphne's hurried departure, feeling slightly better.

He tapped his fingers on the desk. "Do you like Lorenzo?"

As evening fell, they arrived at a restaurant. The sound of a violin drifted into Daphne's ears.

Daphne glanced at the decor and realized it was more suited for couples. It seemed inappropriate for them.

They sat by the window, with candles and flowers on the table.

Daphne felt uncomfortable, occasionally scratching her hand until it turned red.

Lewis kindly handed her the menu. "See what you'd like to eat."

Daphne didn't take the menu and said casually, "Anything is fine."

Seeing how stiffly Daphne was sitting, Lewis got up and sat next to her, closing the distance between them.

Daphne momentarily forgot to breathe.

Lewis noticed her face turning red and teased, "You should breathe."

"Okay."

Lewis used tea to rinse Daphne's utensils. "Don't be nervous. There are so many people here; do you think I'd try anything?"

Daphne's expression became even more awkward.

"I didn't think that," she said shyly.

Lewis stopped teasing her, and the waiter began bringing their dishes.

The table was filled with Daphne's favorite foods.

Seeing this, Daphne felt a strange emotion.

'No! I can't fall for this!' Daphne warned herself.

Meanwhile, Emily stood at the restaurant's entrance, her gaze fixed on Daphne and Lewis enjoying their time together. Jealousy wrapped around her heart like vines.

She glared at Daphne with hatred. 'Bitch! Always trying to seduce Lewis!'

With that thought, Emily strode into the restaurant, heading straight for them.

She looked at Lewis with delight. "Lewis." Emily sat close to Lewis, almost leaning into his arms.

Seeing their "sweet" interaction, Daphne felt like her heart was being torn apart.
