Hmm missing something
Alex laughed at the look on Crystal's face. In their world, in a way, he was her child. He went through the items he had found, the things that he had gathered on the case. As he put the items in the bags after he waited for the call from Grant. Letting the thoughts run through his mind, Alex could figure out that the man had been gambling at a dog track. Then he would eat out with a male friend. Alex was rather sure that the friend was part of the gang that did the books for the dogs.

"You have an idea, don't you?" Crystal knew that look on his face. Over the years she had seen them often.

"Well, he didn't take himself to the beach. Also, they killed him some other place. No blood on the beach. He was well and dead by the time they got to the beach. So the car would have blood all over it, unless they used something else to move him." Alex told her, not really looking at her.

"That is very possible, some people are rather good at cleaning up. Are you sure it was stab wounds?" Crystal knew how to hide a body. Also, how to hide the way they died.

"I didn't see any bite marks on the body. They could have stabbed and drank the blood, but I don't think that is the case." Alex explained as Crystal looked out of the side window.

"Over the years, we have learned how to hide it." Crystal waved a hand. "I know you love them, but they are cows for us. Something to feed us to keep up alive."

"Crystal, that is horrible. Even if it might be true. We don't have to kill them. That is something I never cared for." Alex looked up at her but looked out the window instead.

Alex knew that Crystal didn't really care when it came to humans. They were really just cattle to her, it was a shock at times. Even though he knew that she had always been this way since he meet her. The case was still running around in his head. There was something that he was missing. Something that was there at the tip of his tongue, but he couldn't seem to grab onto it. The phone rang, pulling him back to the office he was standing in.

"Hello, Chetwood residence." Alex spoke into the phone.

"Tell me he isn't dead!" A woman sobbed over the phone.

"I'm so sorry, Mrs. Rosen, I was there to confirm it was him. Have the police left?" Alex asked hearing the pain in her voice.

"It's because he was cheating." Mrs. Rosen sobbed as she spoke.

"No ma'am he wasn't cheating on you. In fact, he was gambling, and doing underhanded deals to try and get the money back." Alex explained as he tried to get her to calm down.

"No, that can't be.I-I smelled the perfume." She stumbled over the words.

"Women go to the tracks just like men. When he was there he did speak to a few women but nothing more. Always telling them he was happy with his wife." Alex explained with a sigh.

"I-I can't believe this. He wasn't cheating on me but he was gambling away our money." She finally took hold of the idea.

"I am not sure whose money he was using. I can tell you that he never wanted you upset." Alex explained as he sat pondering.

It seemed strange that she could recall perfume but not the fact that money was missing. In the time he had been following the gentlemen, he never seemed to go to his bank. It was always another bank. So where was he getting the money? That was one of the things he needed to check on in the next couple of days.

"I have to plan his funeral now." She sobbed as she hung up the phone.

She had no idea what was going on with her husband. Ales was glad they hadn't had kids yet. They would have to deal with an over emotional woman who didn't know a thing about life. When he hung up the phone it rang again, it was Grant calling about the case. Alex smiled as he told the man about the things he had found that the cops didn't think to look for. Grant was pissed off that his cops were so lazy and didn't think to look for more evidence. Grant made him swear to bring the items to the station. Alex agreed to bring it the next night. Giving an excuse that he couldn't leave right now. Crystal just watched as I worked. She had always liked when he worked. Alex didn't understand it, honestly. Maybe she wanted to figure something out from her life and thought seeing what Alex did would help. He really had no idea, she didn't talk about her past much.

"Crystal why don't you ever talk about your past?" Alex had always wanted to know what happened to her.

"Nothing important." She said with a wave of her hand, leaving the room right after.

Alex didn't understand her at all, she had turned him because he would have died. The thing is, she never stuck around long enough for it to go into a marriage. She still wore his ring on her finger. That ring had been on her finger for a long time, he wondered if she used it as armor to keep men at bay. At least the ones she didn't want to get too interested in her. Every time he asked about her past, she would leave the room. No saying much of anything to him. He knew that she had been kicked out of her family. That she had been fallen, as she had put it, and they wanted nothing to do with her. Not a good family if they thought that way. So he was there when she needed him, and if she pushed too much, he made sure she knew it. That would send her running when he asked too much.

"Hiding again?" Alex called after her, but didn't get an answer from her.

Instead of following her out of the office, he tried to look through the case he had been on. Mr. Rosen had been in deep with someone. Money didn't grow on trees, and he was rather sure he didn't rob a bank. Mr. Rosen was a bigger guy, not able to really run fast enough to get away from the cops. Plus, he loved the tracks too much. He didn't do great at beating, though, picking the wrong dogs every time. In the time Alex had been following him, the man had only picked two out of forty dogs that won. Sad that he thought that was the only thing he could do to get away from his wife. Gambling wasn't the answer for him. In the end, it didn't matter, he was killed for another reason. They used him to do little things here and there that helped pay off the debt.
