Chapter 81 Trust again
Chapter 81 Trust again
The cold wind gusts around them. The leaves rattled. The trees rustled softly, giving out a gentle, cool breeze.
It was past midnight. The moon was high up in the sky.
Plates with leftover cluttered the tables, bottles of empty drinks, students passed out on benches and chairs, litters and clusters.
Tiredness and exhaustion was in the air. Many of them dragged on their feet and eyes lazily.
The night has been well spent. Good thing it was Saturday the next day.
The cold seemed to have gathered all its energy and rested on the one circle that was still wide awake.
The drink spilled slowly from the table it landed on, softly to the ground.
Everyone looked on with amazement. Stunned expressions, furrowed brows, scrunched up faces.
“What the hell did you do that for??!” Sonia yelled into the night and it yelled right back at her.
Their own little party was just about to start- just them; the main reason for all the set up and shenanigans.
Sonia's eyes weren't looking pretty anymore.
Everyone looked tense. Everywhere was tense.
“Calm down, Sonia. I'm sure it's just a mistake” Elara tried to sever the situation.
“A mistake?” Sonia scoffed.
She rolled her eyes, got up and stormed off.
Elara heaved, Kael relaxed back on the chair, Rowan and Luca looked unbothered and Jace looked unsure.
“Why did you do that Sophie?” Elara was still the only one asking questions.
The boys couldn't care less. They thought it was merely another one of the girls' many fights.
The truth was, Sophie had thought there was poison in the drink Sonia offered Elara.
Sonia is madly in love with Luca and Luca is in love with Elara, and she knows her sister.
She knows her and they don't. She knows her more than anyone sitting there right now.
“You can talk to me,” Elara urged Sophie, patting her shoulders softly.
Sophie heaved, but didn't say a word.
A brief silence lingered in the air, and just when they all thought she was going to say something, she got up and left also.
Luca soon followed, and then Rowan, and then Jace who tapped both Elara and Kael on the shoulder.
They would all be spending the night at Rowan's mansion.
Kael was to take Elara to his penthouse first thing in the morning but before that, he wanted to have a talk with her that night and clear things up.
He knew she was having some misunderstanding about what happened at his father's place.
“Elara!!” He called softly.
She turned to look at him for the first time that night.
They had been avoiding each other, or rather, she had been avoiding him- including Misella.
She couldn't bring herself to look at the both of them without feeling a pang of pain in her chest.
What was the reason? She couldn't tell.
“Can we…”
“Please!” Elara held up her palm, cutting Kael off.
“Not tonight” and with that, she was the sixth person to leave that table and retire for the night.
THE NEXT MORNING
Most of them woke up with terrible migraines the next morning.
There was a lot to clean and arrange, so Rowan chased everyone home.
The maids he called would be there to clean everything up, and he could have a nice sleep after that.
Sonia and Sophie went back to their dorm, while Kael and Elara went back to his penthouse and Luca and Jace went back to their respective homes.
The silence between Sonia and Sophie was even louder than that of Elara and Kael’s.
Sonia stormed into the dorm, slamming the door behind her.
She quickly showered, changed and was about to leave, but had a change of heart and walked back into the room.
“Care to explain what that was about last night?” She fired, trying to calm herself.
You could tell she didn't have a single sleep last night.
There were dark circles underneath her eyes.
Sophie sighed. She turned to look at her sister who was shooting lasers at her with her eyes.
“What do you want me to say?”
“Something. Anything” Sonia shouted.
Sophie shrugged.
“I've got nothing to say”
“Yeah, I thought as much,” Sonia barged out of the room.
She headed straight to where she always met with Jace.
Just before they left Rowan's place, Jace had told her they should meet up later.
It took about an hour before Jace arrived after she sent him a message to meet her at the hut house.
“Jeez! I thought you would want to get some rest after all that trouble last night” he almost teased, but decided against it the minute his eyes landed on Sonia's non smiling face.
“What happened?” He crouched down to the seat opposite her.
“You were there last night” Sonia looked sadly at her fingers.
“What the hell did she do that for? She's been acting kind of weird since Elara's return, and even gotten closer to her. I know my sister Jace, she doesn't like getting close to people” Sonia was baffled.
Jace grinned.
“That's actually what I wanted to talk to you about” Jace replied, making Sonia sit up.
She arched her brows.
“Sophie actually knows about us meeting here” he informed her.
Sonia scoffed.
“You're joking,” she laughed.
“ I wish I was. I'm guessing she followed you. I caught her a while back. And although I pretended not to know what she was doing, I could tell she wasn't fooled”
“What does she want then? Does she think we are doing something terrible? This is unbelievable!” Sonia ran her fingers into her already messy hair she hadn't remembered to comb because she was in a hurry.
“I think she's suspecting us,” Jace concluded.
“Of what?” Sonia asked.
He shrugged.
“But I would advise you to keep a close eye on her just as she's doing to you” Jace reasoned.
“I'm going to give her a piece of my mind,” Sonia spat.
Jace quickly shook his head.
“That would only make things worse. It's best to make her think otherwise. Give her the benefit of the doubt”
“And how exactly do I do that?” Sonia was perplexed and angry
“Make her trust you again” Jace enlightened.
Sonia thought
about it for a while, and then slowly, a smile broke out of her lips.
That made perfect sense.
She would make Sophie trust her again.
Good plan!!.
