Chapter 80 The party

Chapter 80 The party
With Rowan's ideas and lead, a party is being thrown for Elara's return.

Kael thought it was unnecessary but the others thought it was a good idea and also a good way for them to bond again after a long time.

Rowan, Jace and Sonia were in charge of setting it up.

Sonia has been running about acting like she was planning the school's ball.

Sophie had tried all she could to get inside her bag and take a look at what Jace had given her, but that bag suddenly seemed like a prize possession to Sonia.

She took it everywhere she went.

One time while she was in the bathroom, Sophie thought it was a good chance to search the bag, and she did, but it was gone…like gone.

There was nothing in the bag.

She figured Sonia had removed it before she went in to shower

What exactly was in the bag?.

The party looked suspicious too. What were they planning?.

Was Rowan in on it too? It was his idea after all.

Paranoia was taking a real toil on Sophie.

She had never been one to worry or even care about others but Sonia was involved and she wouldn't rest until she got to the bottom of it.

She couldn't let Sonia make another mistake that would cost them something big.

And worse, what if she gets hurt in the process?.

Maybe she was overthinking, but she knew what she saw.

Why would they be meeting in secret? That was suspicious as hell, and Sophie knew she had to get whatever was in that bag.

She rummaged through their things - lockers, drawers, closets, bags, even shoes, their beds.

She searched everywhere, including the library they visited occasionally.

Sonia didn't know that many people in school so Sophie was sure the item was within where she knew. She just had to figure out where.

Where would Sonia hide something she thought was valuable, or maybe precious?.

She had been racking her brain for two days and now it was time for the party.

She was sure to resume searching after the party was over.

Rowan wasn't lying when he said he was going to throw one hell of a party.

By 8pm when the party was scheduled to start, the garden outside Rowan's house they used was already filled up.

They hadn't realized there were that many people in Crescent Ridge.

“I didn't know you knew so many people?” Sonia gasped at the multitude trooping in.

“He's a lady's man Sonia, what were you expecting? You see that chick over there?” Jace pointed at a blonde girl that was pressing herself against Kael who glared at her.

Elara was with Sophie inside, and Rowan was grilling the barbecue.

“What about her?” Sonia was curious.

“She's a siren. She hypnotized Rowan last year with a song and got him to go out with her. She's Rowan's first and only girlfriend” Jace laughed, gulping down whiskey.

Sonia laughed.

“ Did he know?” She asked.

Jace nodded.

“But he didn't leave. She's sexy as hell”

“Are they still together?” Sonia persisted.

Jace shook his head.

“Nah! But they still hook up a lot. They're together but not. They have a mutual understanding”

“That's some bullshit,” Sonia huffed.

“Tell me about it” they both laughed.

“I'm gonna go check up on Sophie and Elara”

“Alright” Jace said.

Sonia fought through the crowd to get to the room that they both were.

She opened the door to the room Elara was with Sophie to find them both in front of the mirror.

Elara was looking breathtaking with Sophie doing some finishing touches on her face.

“Woah, girl! You look gorgeous!” Sonia exclaimed.

Elara grinned shyly.

It was about 10pm when the party finally kicked off.

There was enough to eat and drink. Rowan really outdid himself.

Elara was out now with Sonia and Sophie by her side.

Kael insisted she sat close to him.

They haven't spoken much to each other since the visit to his father's chambers.

Although Elara was expecting Kael to say something, she also feared what might come out of his mouth and found the silence comforting.

It was almost midnight and everyone was already fed. People started climbing onto the stage to dance and unwind.

The party got busier.

While some busied themselves with fiddling with each other, others drank or smoked, or danced and do all sorts of other things

Rowan's bitch had finally left Kael alone and stepped onto the dancefloor.

Jace was there, moving from one girl to another.

Sonia soon joined them. Sophie sat in a corner with Elara- they looked exceptionally close tonight.

Kael moved over to where Elara was. Sophie moved, giving them some privacy when she realized Kael was there.

“Hey!” He cooked at Elara who looked uneasy with his presence.

“Hey!” Elara waved back nervously.

Kael smiled, allowing a moment of brief silence to pass.

“You look so beautiful tonight,” Kael admired.

“Thanks,” Elara replied.

Another long minute passed and nothing was heard.

“I just wanted to…”the loud electric bugging sound interrupted Kael.

Rowan was about to make an announcement.

By now, some of the students have either retired home or to their dorms.

“Since there are few of us left now, why don't we close this off with a game?” Rowan said rhetorically, coming down from the stage almost immediately.

A wild round of applause filled the air.

Soon, students gathered at a table, a bottle in front of it, waiting to play truth and dare.

Kael stared as they began, gently let down whatever it was he was going to say.

It obviously wasn't the right time.

Jace, Luca, and Sonia returned to the table where Elara, Sophie and Kael were.

They all watched the ongoing game.

Suddenly, Sonia stretched a drink towards Elara, but just as Elara was stretching out her hands towards it to collect it, someone knocked it off.

The wind gusts. The air was s
till. The world stopped spinning. Everyone froze.

And slowly, everyone looked at her…

Sophie.

Why did she knock off the drink? Why? What happened?.
