Chapter 79 Conspiring

Chapter 79 Conspiring
They say curiosity kills the cat, but sometimes, the substance of the curiosity overwhelms the cat itself and the kill is justified if it ever happens.

Sophie has had her eyes glued to Jace and Sonia like jam on bread since that day.

Every meeting, every coded look, every crooked smile, slanted eyebrows and raised shadows- she's been deciphering, trying to know what her sister is up to.

Everyone of them knows Elara is in danger and is dangerous, but from what and how?.

Is it just because they saw her enter into the sacred walls- that had been just her and her sister.

“Where are you off to? It's too early” Sophie closed the book she was reading to fully face her sister who was throwing over a sweater on a green shirt and blue jean.

Sonia chuckled lightly.

“You know you've really been in my business this past few days. Wassup?” Sonia teased.

Sophie rolled her eyes and put the book back up in her face.

“Well, if it might interest you to know. I'm off to meet a friend” Sonia informed.

“ What friend?” The book was still up in her face.

“You don't know him?” Sonia replied.

Him?. Of course Sophie does know him.

“Okay!” Sophie shrugged.

Sonia picked up her hand bag and was out.

Sophie hurried out of the bed and went to the window. She watched as Sonia took the bushy path and exited through the narrow road.

She knew who Sophie was going to meet but that wasn't what bothered her.

Elara just returned to school and now Sonia was meeting Jace again- she hadn't seen them together for a while.

She knows because she's been keeping track of Sonia's whereabouts.

She doesn't want her sister to do something stupid and certainly not to Elara.

She might not be very close to Elara, but they were friends.

Quickly, Sophie dashed into the bathroom to have her bathe.

She quickly dressed up when she was done, throwing in whatever.

The sky was bright but the weather was chilly.

It was near winter and the leaves were looking refreshed.

The close huge trees that was around the dorm suddenly looked too huge and hefty.

Sophie knew the exit Sonia had taken led to only one direction.

It was a usual spot for her and Jace, but when she finally got out there, it was eerie, calm and cold.

She looked around and saw no one. The chirpings and water droplets on leaves and howling all made her skin cringe as they normally wouldnt.

Where was Sonia?.

It was just the woody hut house in the place. The first place she had followed Sonia to and caught her with Jace.

Sophie knew Jace didn't tell Sonia she had followed them. That explain the casual winks he always gave her.

“ I saw my sister go this way and followed her, but I'm relieved now that I saw she was with you” Sophie had said with a straight face.

Jace only looked at her for a few seconds before a smile broke out of his lips.

Sophie released the breathe she didn't know she had been holding.

“What a good sister you are” Jace had praised.

Whether he believed her or not was out of question for Sophie, but she hoped he had.

They had walked back out together and talked about random school stuff.

Was there another place the exit led to that she wasn't aware of?.

She was sure Sonia had gone that way and that was the only entrance and exit and the only building was the woody hutlike house.

She looked around- at the tall trees, the birds clamoring about in the sky, the hawks howling, the insects and butterflies dancing beautifully about.

On a normal day, this wouldn't scare her so much.

Had she walked into a trap Sonia and Jace had set? Sonia had always been good at playing games ever since they were young.

She would get Sophie into all kinds of trouble. Sometimes, Sophie even got into trouble while she was asleep.

Sonia was a disaster and still was, and that made Sophie always on guard and overprotective as they grew up.

She couldn't afford another mistake, not after the one that almost destroyed their lives.

While she looked around, she noticed a figure approaching her.

Jace!!.

Quickly, she ran and hid herself behind the hut.

Jace approached the wooden hut but didn't enter and there was still no sign of Sonia.

Was there another place this led that she wasn't aware of?.

Why wasn't Sonia there yet despite leaving since?.

Just as Jace was left wandering too, Sonia appeared from a narrow path by the desert side.

Sophie gasped softly. The place looked dangerous and isolated.

What was Sonia doing there??.

“Should we go in??” Jace smiled as she approached.

“ Do we have to do that? I thought I was just collecting it” Sonia arched her brows.

Sophie could hear them clear and fine.

Their voices were pretty high - maybe they thought they were alone.

Or did they know? Jace could sniff her the other time.

“Where is it?” Sonia demanded, her eyes darting to his pockets.

“ There's something else I would like to tell you, so why don't we head inside?” he encouraged her.

Sonia rolled her eyes and led the way.

Jace brought out the keys from his pocket and opened the door.

While they were inside, Sophie came out of her hiding and went to the place Sonia had walked out from.

There was a muddy wall covered with thick grasses tall enough to hide a person.

Did Sonia see her? Sophie was suddenly unsure.

Maybe she should just leave. She thought.

But what did Jace want to say to Sonia? She had to know that, so she started walking back to the hut.

Just as she got closer, the door creaked open and Jace and Sonia were out.

Sophie quickly ran and hid herself in the thick grasses.

That was fast! And that was close…very close…too close.

They conversed a bit with Jace doing more of the talking and Sonia doing more of the listening.

Then, just before they left, Jace dipped his hand into his right pocket and brought out something which he handed to Sonia.

Sophie was too far away to take a look but she saw Sonia put it inside her bag quickly.

Jace said something to her which made her gasp.

She clutched the bag to her side as they left the place together.

Sophie came out of her hiding place when she was sure they were gone.

Now what??.

What does she do? And more importantly, what did Jace give Sonia?.
