Chapter 83

Chapter 83
Felicia’s POV

Change everything?

I looked at Kael, who was walking just ahead of me, his body rigid with tension.

He had been signaling to Lucien, his eyes flicking back and forth between me and the man leading us down the dark corridor.

But despite his obvious concern, he didn’t look my way.

My pulse quickened.

What exactly was happening?

What did this place have to do with my newborn pup?

What was so important that it would “change everything”?

I could feel the weight of the silence between us, thick with unspoken questions and fear.

Although one part of me wanted to demand answers, I forced myself to breathe deeply and stay calm.

If this were truly something that could harm my pup, something that could expose the truth about her ,  or the reason she was born this way,  Kael would never have allowed me to come.

He knew everything.

And yet, here I was.

As I walked behind him and the two unknown wolves, I focused on my breath, trying to quiet the storm of thoughts in my head.

I needed to trust him.

At least, that was what I told myself.

The atmosphere around us felt thick, pressing in on me.

The walls seemed to close in as we moved deeper into the pack grounds.

The faint smell of damp stone and wood mixed with the distinct musk of wolves in heat.

We were near the back of the territory, the place where most of the old, unused buildings were.

I recognized the path we were on, though it had been some time since I had ventured this far.

Then, without warning, the unknown wolf at the front of our little group stopped, bringing us all to a halt.

His eyes darted over his shoulder, locking with Kael’s.

“We’re here,” he said, his voice emotionless.

I couldn’t keep the confusion from spreading across my face.

Here?

My breath caught in my throat as my eyes fell on the dilapidated building before us.

It was an old warehouse, the wood weathered and cracked, the windows darkened with grime.

But it wasn’t the building itself that chilled me.

It was the memories flooding my mind.

This was the exact spot.

The same place where Kael and I had… handled Diane.

Where we had taken her life to protect our secret.

Where I had believed no one would ever find out.

I felt a shiver race down my spine.

“What are we doing here?” Kael’s voice broke the silence, sharp with concern.

I knew what was going through his mind.

He remembered too.

“Are we sure this is the right place?” I heard him ask again, his voice tight with restraint.

The unknown wolf didn’t respond right away.

Instead, he turned back toward the warehouse, taking slow, deliberate steps forward.

Lucien stayed silent, his expression unreadable as he watched the exchange unfold.

“What is going on?” I demanded, my voice trembling slightly.

“Why are we here?”

Lucien finally glanced at me, his eyes dark and distant.

“You’ll find out soon enough.”

That was all he said.

And then, without another word, he pushed the door open with a creak that sent my heart racing in my chest.

Kael’s hand twitched, like he wanted to stop me from going further, but he didn’t.

His fingers curled into fists at his sides, a muscle in his jaw working.

With a deep breath, I followed the unknown wolf inside.

The others trailed behind me.

The air in here was cold, and the smell of damp wood hit me immediately.

The interior was cavernous, filled with shadows.

At the far end, I could make out shapes, but I couldn’t tell what they were.

My heart thudded loudly in my chest.

Lucien and Kael were right behind me now, their footsteps a comforting presence.

As my eyes adjusted to the dim light, I saw what was waiting for me.

A table stood in the middle of the room, covered with ancient symbols, unfamiliar artifacts, and strange, ritualistic markings.

But none of that mattered.

What struck me immediately were the chains attached to the walls, hanging like ominous reminders of the past.

I froze.

My breath caught in my throat.

Chains?

“What… is this place?” I whispered.

Kael stepped closer to me, his eyes scanning the room.

“This is where it all started,” he murmured, more to himself than to me.

I turned to face him, searching his eyes.

“What do you mean?” I asked, my voice small.

He met my gaze, and for a moment, I saw something flicker in his eyes ,  regret? Fear?

But it was gone as quickly as it had appeared.

“You’ve never seen this side of the pack before,” Kael said.

His tone had softened, but the tension remained.

“This is where they kept the… special wolves. The ones they didn’t want anyone to know about.”

I stared at him in confusion.

“Special wolves?” I echoed.

“What are you talking about?”

Before Kael could respond, Lucien’s voice broke in, sharp and commanding.

“It’s time to find out.”

I turned toward him, and that’s when I saw it.

At the back of the room, there was another figure, cloaked in darkness.

Someone I didn’t recognize.

The figure stepped forward into the light, and my breath caught in my throat.

It was Diane.

Or at least, it looked like her.

Her eyes were hollow, empty.

Her skin was pale, almost sickly.

But it was her.

“Diane?” I breathed, shock seizing my voice.

Impossible.

Lucien stepped forward, his eyes flashing with something I couldn’t read.

“You see, Felicia,” he said coldly, “there’s more going on than you realize.”

And as the figure of Diane took a step closer, the room seemed to grow colder.

I felt the weight of it pressing on me, suffocating me.

A chill ran down my spine
