Chapter 27
Kyla spent the following day sewing new clothes. Only Azamir kept her company and told her which master had already arrived. So she learned that she had to be particularly careful of Beleth and his brother, as well as Astaroth. The latter inevitably made Kyla think of the legends of her world, and at Azamir's request, she told him the story of how the goddess Astarte became the demon Astaroth.
It was already evening when the doors opened and Devon walked into her room. Kyla sighed. "Have you still not learned to knock? What if I had just changed?”
"Well, I wouldn't have bothered."
"Horny buck."
Devon looked at her perplexed. Had he just seen a faint smile on her lips?
He stepped closer to the bed Kyla was sitting on. "Tomorrow you will be present at the meeting." He explained to her and Kyla raised an eyebrow. "Is that an order?"
"I'm not going to argue with you about my choice of words now. It's all about the fact that it would be too dangerous for you anywhere else."
"And when is this meeting?"
"I'll let you know in time."
"Devonian?"
"Yes?"
Kyla could see his mind was on other things entirely. "What are you doing at the meeting?"
"Renew alliances and negotiate.", he explained before saying goodbye again and leaving her alone with Azamir.
Kyla looked after him and stared at the closed door for a moment. Finally she turned to Azamir: "Will you come with me tomorrow? I don't want to hear about politics. That never interested me before.”
Azamir looked at her with wide eyes. "Do not go! Azamir are not allowed. Only personal servants are allowed!”
Involuntarily, Kyla's eyebrow started to twitch slightly. "Personal servants, yes? Devon you assface. I'm not your personal servant.", she murmured to herself and then explained to Azamir: "Well, then I'll just tell him that you're my personal servant, so I'm not stuck there alone. Basta. If he has a problem with that, unlucky.”
They talked for a while until sleep overcame them too.
Kyla was woken up by the constant noise, which lowered her mood considerably. She turned around to the other side. She didn't feel like getting up yet, her body felt weak and powerless and at the same time she wondered where that was coming from. She hadn't done anything strenuous.
Azamir sensed her restlessness and opened his small, black eyes. "Morning..." Kyla murmured at him and then stood up. In a bad mood, she threw the covers aside and sat on the edge of the bed. For a moment she looked at the bare wall in front of her, got up and left the room towards the bathroom.
Azamir, meanwhile, went to get breakfast.
Lying in the warm water, Kyla began to think. She didn't know why she was in such a bad mood, but as she delved deeper, she felt a sense of sadness that just couldn't be shaken off. Something was going to happen today, she knew, but what the hell was it?
As she sat fully clothed on her bed, Azamir her opposite, and they were about to get down to their usual dragon meat, there was a knock on her door and Devon entered. Kyla gaped at him.
He caught her amazed look and smiled slightly. "Why so amazed?"
"You… you knocked!"
Devon shrugged. "The meeting will open soon. I want you to be ready. I'll have someone sent for you."
"Azamir's coming too," Kyla replied, then went back to the piece of meat. Sometimes she just didn't understand him. Devon narrowed his eyes slightly. His voice sounded menacing. "No, he won't. He has no business there!”
Kyla glanced at Azamir, who didn't flinch. Then she put her food back on the plate, swung her legs over the edge of the bed and walked towards Devon. "He WILL come with you. I don't care what you think of it, or anyone else. I'm NOT going to sit around and listen to this crap about politics all the time! If you want me there, he WILL come with you, or I won't even show up."
Devon's smile turned to ice. "We'll see!" He turned to the door and left the room. Kyla stared after him. "We will…" she murmured before going back to her breakfast.
Beleth burst into Liara's chamber. As soon as he closed the door behind him, his eyes searched for her and found her sitting on her bed. She stared ahead as if in a trance and didn't seem to notice him.
He stepped closer, tearing her out of her thoughts. "The meeting will start soon, then you can go on the search. And I advise you, watch out that his guard dog doesn't catch you. It would be dangerous for all of us.”
