Chapter 88 THE WATCHERS
Chapter 88 THE WATCHERS
IRIS' POV
The moment I got out of class, I could feel someone watching me. But I couldn't see what. I was sure that it was the other students. After all, I wasn't the only one in the hallway.
It could be Owen for all I knew. After all, he was the other person that has been trying to get my attention this whole time. And I didn't know if I was still right from not even granting him any of it. That didn't stop him though.
The only time when he didn't even try approaching me, was whenever I was either with Derek or Garrett. And after what happened the last night, I didn't think I was ever going to see things the same way between the three of us.
I felt heat on my skin one more time, and a shiver ran through my spine immediately..
Not alone.
The creature was groaning, and I tried not to pay attention. With everything I had noticed, it groaned at every little thing.
And this time even when I felt it, I didn't want to still acknowledge it.
“Not alone,” It groaned again, and the gaze became stronger. I could feel it more than anything.
“I know,” I whispered back.
“You said something,” I heard someone say, and I flinched, immediately turning to look at Owen. Why did he have to be there?
“No,” I whispered, and he narrowed an eye at me, like he didn't even believe me. “I didn't.”
“Well, I'm sure I saw your lips move.” he said, and I giggled in the most awkward manner.
That was the first time in weeks that we were having an actual conversation. And I didn't know how I was even supposed to feel about it as a whole.
“I was just thinking,” I whispered, and he nodded, finally leaving me alone.
The last thing I was doing at that point was thinking. I was specifically scanning the whole place.
That was when I finally looked at the end of the hallway, and I spotted the figure that was there, barely moving.
With the way it stood, I could immediately feel somethig run through my spine. Everything about that figure was just wrong.
From the way it stood, to the way the shoulders were bent. I could feel the bad energy written all over it.
And it was more than wrong. I didn't like it one bit.
“Iris,” Owen called out again. “Are you sure you're okay?”
“Yes,” I whispered, and he tipped my chin. For just a second, it felt like he was going to kiss me.
Lara reacted, and I was more than relieved to feel her after all this time.
“Where have you been all this time?” I attempted asking, but I couldn't even form the words properly in my head.
Not when Owen was holding me like that.
“You're shaking,” he said. And even if that was supposed to be a good thing, it wasn't. Not when I was practically trying to ignore those creatures that were standing there. They were still in place, not moving. All eyes on me.
I moved away from Owen's touch, and I suddenly felt a presence behind me. I was hoping with everything in me, that it wasn't yet another creature.
“Don’t look,” Derek’s voice came from behind me, and I exhaled more sharply than I was supposed to. If that didn’t already make Owen jealous, I didn’t know what would.
I could already tell by the way he was hugging me. But what was happening was more important than whatever he was thinking.
“Okay, what’s going on?” he asked, and I swallowed hard. Explaining this to him was going to be difficult.
“I just need you to trust me for a second,” I said, but Owen pulled away from my touch instead.
He looked more than alarmed at that point. “I don’t like how that sounds,” he was already saying, while Derek only looked annoyed.
I could feel the bad energy coming from the other side of the hall. I turned back immediately, and my mind was fixed on the other kids that were in the hallway. The bell wasn't even going to go off anytime soon. So there was almost no way that we were going to protect them.
I didn't think that any of the creatures from the pack were going to find me all the way to the human world. They were just a little too obsessed with me.
I couldn't say that I liked it. At the back of my eyes, I could see everything that I had fantasized about living in the human world, slip right through my fingers like quick sand.
“What's going on?” Owen asked one more time, and it took a lot for me not to tell him to shut up. But I couldn't even blame him at that point.
He was just more than curious to know what was going on. But it would have helped if he kept his mouth shut at that point.
The creature responded. I didn't even know who I was supposed to listen to. The creature, or Lara.
Derek had his hands at my back, like he was trying to assure me that he was there for me at all times.
I wanted to believe him so bad, but it was getting harder by the second. Especially with the rate at which the creature was warning me about the danger that was approaching.
My heart was racing in my chest, and I turned to look at the one on the other side of the hall. My knees almost gave away at the sight of what I was looking at. It was trying so hard to act like a normal student. But none of that was working. It still managed to stand out more than it was supposed to. Its eyes were fixed on me, and it suddenly turned its head to the side, before the lips spread into a wide smile.
A little too wide.
