Gentleman Wanted 16
Gentleman Wanted 16
Gent
“Baby.” I stared down at her face as she blinked her eyes awake, confusion making them cloudy.
I had sat by her bedside for hours, worrying and not able to do anything but wait. The doctors said she was okay, that her burns were just superficial but I couldn’t help but worry.
“Baby, it’s ok.” I smoothed back her frizzy hair. The usual silky strands were singed. She would have to have it all cut off, but it was a small price to pay.
Panic ripped across her face as she struggled to sit upright, her eyes wild.
“Bobby...”
Gently, I forced her back against the pillows. My touch was light, but she hissed in pain anyway. “Gem, look at me. Bobby is safe. Parker got him out.” She visibly relaxed, all the fight leaving her as she relaxed back. Tears sprung up in her eyes. “Thank god. He’s a good boy. Brave. Even when Young….” She trailed off. Her bottom lip started to tremble. “Young Blood?”
“Dead. You don’t have to worry about him anymore. You and Bobby are safe.” I wanted her to believe me. “We will go far away, and…” the hand she placed on my arm silenced me.
“No, Gent.”
My heart sank. “I know I failed you. But I won’t again. Never again.” I couldn’t lose her now. Not after everything we had overcome. “Just give me one more chance, Gem.” I didn’t care how desperate I sounded. If she ended things now, I would lose it.
“The Black Aces are your family.”
“Is that what Young Blood told you? Gemma, you are my family. You and Bobby.” Bending, I kissed the back of her hand where it lay against the white sheets.
She shook her head. “The Black Aces are our family. This is our home.”
My eyes narrowed. “You’re staying? You want to be with…” I couldn’t get the words out around the lump in my throat.
“Of course, I want to be with you, Gent. I love you.”
“Fuck.” Standing so suddenly that the chair I was sat in crashed to the floor, I pressed my lips to her dry cracked ones. “I love you so fucking much, so much.” My tongue traced her lips. Wetting them for her. She met my tongue with her own.
“Marry me?”
Her words took me by surprise. “What?”
“Marry me?” Gemma repeated.
“Gem, do you think this is the right time or place?”
She barked out a laugh. “You once asked me when I was giving you head. I said no because I thought you were joking. But I’m not joking. I want to be your wife. Unless you don’t want me to be?”
“Of course I want to marry you crazy girl. I just had a big surprise proposal planned. But that’s you all over, isn’t it? Taking me by surprise and keeping me on my toes.” I laughed and kissed her again. “Yes. Yes, I’ll marry you, Gemma.”
“As soon as I get out of here? I don’t want to wait,” she pressed.
“We may have to give it a few weeks if you want your best friend there.”
“Cali? What happened to her?” She tried to sit up again. And again, I pushed her back down.
“Nothing is wrong with Cali, well,. That’s except she can wave sleep goodbye.” I winked.
“She had her baby?” Gemma squealed excitedly.
I nodded. “About an hour ago, a healthy but tiny baby girl. So we should probably wait a few weeks before we get hitched, huh?”
She nodded. “I can’t wait to see her and Bobby. I really want to see Bobby.”
Smiling down at her, I pressed a kiss to her forehead. “Soon, baby. Just rest for now and don’t cause the doctors any problems. And I promise you, I will give you everything you ever wanted.”
Gemma’s eyes glazed with tears. “I have everything I have ever wanted, Gent. I have you.”
