Gentleman Wanted 12
Gentleman Wanted 12
Gent
“Fuck.” Gent moved quickly. Using his much wider body to shield me from view. Not that it mattered now, they had all seen.
We must have been so engrossed in each other that we hadn’t even heard them arrive, let alone knock on the door and make their way into the garden when we didn’t answer.
“Get dressed.” His fingers closed my blouse over my naked chests. It didn’t seem to matter to him that his jeans were around his ankles and his bare ass on display. Gent thought about me first. Just like a gentleman. His lips brushed over mine, and for a second, I forgot the audience we had in the garden as I wrapped my arms around his neck.
Someone outside wolf-whistled loudly, and I ducked my head into his chest as he laughed. “Dressed, Gem.”
He stood there as I righted my clothes, his eyes never leaving me. And it was only when I had pulled my panties into place under my skirt that he finally turned.
“You guys are assholes.” With a sigh, he unlocked the kitchen door. Letting them all file through. Their faces were red from laughing. “How long have you been fucking watching?”
Part of me expected it to be one of the men that answered, so it came as a surprise when it was Chelsea. Her sing-song girly laughter filled the airy kitchen. “Long enough for Wicked to get a hard-on.”
I blinked at her in surprise. She said it like she was totally ok with it.
“Hey.” She shrugged. “He’s a man. He is going to look. It’s if he touches...”
Wicked didn’t let her finish. “I never would.” He pressed a kiss to her hair. “Does someone want to tell me where you want all the food so we can get this party started?”
“Food? Party?” I asked dumbly.
The room around me erupted into more laughter.
“Of course, Gem.” Wicked tapped the cut I still had on. “This is to be celebrated. Welcome to the family, finally.” He kissed my cheek. “Now, can someone tell me where the food goes?”
“Kitchen counter is fine. It’s not like we have furniture in here.” Gent pulled me gently to his side. His arm was heavy on my shoulders.
“Actually...” I blushed scarlet. “I probably should clean them first.”
Loud, rumbling laughter echoed off the walls as they doubled over and laughed.
“That might be an idea.” Cali giggled. “Seeing as you just had your naked ass on it.”
“It wouldn’t be the ass on it that worried me.” Chuckling, Truth winked. “It’s whatever else Gent got all over it.”
My lips curled. Sometimes they were really gross. But I figured I really should clean down the sides.
Just in case anything had ‘spilt’.
“So...” Cali’s arm went around my shoulders as she led me out into the garden. “I take it things are good between you and Gent?”
Shooting her a sideways glance, I tried and failed to hide the smile on my face. “Yeah, it’s good,” I admitted finally. “Better than good, actually.” I giggled.
She hugged me a little tighter, and my head dropped to her shoulder. “I could tell. He’s crazy about you, isn’t he?”
“I don’t know about that. I mean, he asked me to marry him, but….”
Cali whirled me around. Her hands were tight on my arms. “He did what?”
“He asked me to marry him. I mean, it wasn’t a real proposal, but yeah, he did.” I shrugged.
“Why wasn’t it a real proposal?”
I threw a glance over my shoulder. There was no one within earshot, but I still lowered my voice. “Because I was on my knees with his cock in my mouth at the time.”
Cali fell about laughing just like I knew she would.
When she finally stopped giggling, she straightened. “So what did you say?”
“I said no, God Cali. What did you think I would say? His dick was in my mouth. It wasn’t a real proposal.”
She cocked an eyebrow in my direction. “Oh, he meant every word he said. And you turned him down.”
Glancing behind me, I caught sight of Gent through the kitchen window, Bobby on his hip. Had he really meant it? Had I really turned him down?
“We haven’t even said I love you yet.”
“Do you love him?” Cali followed my gaze, her face knowing.
“I think so.”
“You think so? Jesus, Gem. He bought you a house. He’s raising your son as his own. Gent is head over heels for you, and you're not sure.” She shook her head. “If you don’t love him, then you shouldn’t be wearing…” She lifted the corner of the leather I was wearing. “You know that. You need to work out what you want, Gemma. Before someone gets hurt.”
I fell silent. Her words swirling around my head. “Shit.” I couldn’t imagine life without him. He was my best friend, not just my lover. “Shit.”
Cali squeezed again. “There you go.”
“What do I do? How can I make him believe that I do love him and want to be with him?” The thought of him leaving was crippling.
“Sweet girl, you just gotta tell him.”
Easy peasy.
All I had to tell him was that I loved him. How hard could that be?
“Everything ok out here?” Gent called from the doorway. His eyes found mine, and the smile that lit up his face was like looking into the sun. It was blinding.
“Told you he was crazy about you,” Cali whispered. “Everything is fine. I think Gem wants to talk to you, though,” she called out louder as she walked away with a wink. “Give me Bobby.”
Easily he passed my son over.
“Everything ok?” Gent’s eyes searched my face.
“Yeah.” I stared at him. He really was the best thing that had ever happened to me. He had been in my life for so long, but I hadn’t really noticed him. Now he was all I could see.
“Yeah, everything is fine.” I reached up to run my fingers through his hair, messing it up. “I just wanted to tell you how much this all means to me. How much you mean to me.” I met his eyes. Chewing on my bottom lip.
“It’s nothing, Gem.” Shrugging his wide shoulders, he looked suddenly sheepish.
“It’s everything, Gent.” I took a deep breath. “You know I lo-”
I didn’t get to finish. The back door opened, and Ruin appeared.
“Gent. His voice was shrill. “We’ve got to go. Someone set fire to the tattoo shop.”
The room was dark, and for a second, I didn’t know what had woken me. Some sound coming from the quiet flat.
For a second, I froze, trying to blink back sleep.
I hadn’t meant to fall asleep on the sofa after coming back and settling Bobby into his crib, but it was obvious I had from the pain in my neck and how dark it was.
I hadn’t just taken a nap. I had been asleep for hours.
Glancing at my phone, I groaned. Two in the morning.
I had been asleep for over eight hours. Curled up on the sofa in my clothes.
No wonder I was awake now. It was more sleep than I had had in months. Usually, Bobby woke up for a feed.
Sitting upright, I stretched, my back cracking.
The sound I had heard was obviously Bobby stirring. It was surprising that he wasn’t screaming the place down.
Wearily I climbed to my feet, dropping the phone back on to the couch cushions. I would answer the dozen or so texts once I had checked on Bobby and settled him back down.
That’s when I heard it again. The sound of low masculine humming and Bobby’s happy gargle.
Smiling, I made my way to the bedroom. No wonder he wasn’t screaming. Gent had come back and dealt with him. I made a mental note to thank him for letting me sleep.
“Gent?” I whispered his name as I came to a halt in the open doorway. The room was dark, but I could see his outline by the crib.
“Shhh.”
I frowned. My heart hammering against my ribs.
It didn’t sound like Gent.
It didn’t sound like him at all. I took a hasty step back. My hand gripping my throat.
It was only then that I forced myself to look around.
Gent always took his boots off and hung his cut by the door.
Always.
Turning my head back to the bedroom and at the shadowy figure holding my son, I forced myself to stay where I was. Even when every part of me was screaming at me to run.
“Don’t scream, Gemma.”
Brushing my hand against the wall, I switched the light on. Blinking rapidly at the sudden brightness.
I needed to keep my wits about me.
I stared at the man I knew well.
“What are you doing here, Young Blood?” Somehow I managed to keep my voice even and calm. “Why don’t you give me Bobby, and we can sit down and have a cup of….”
He didn’t let me finish. His grip on my son tightened, and Bobby let out a wail. “I don’t think so, Gem.”
“Gent will be home soon, and…”
“Stop lying.” He screamed it, and I swallowed back the lump of fear that had formed in my throat. “Gent won’t be back for hours. I made sure of that.” He sighed heavily. “Get your shoes on, Gemma. We need to be long gone before then.”
“I’m not going anywhere, Young Blood. Why don’t we talk like adults?.”
His eyes narrowed. “Go barefoot then Gem, I really don’t care. You shacking up with Gent has complicated matters.” He shrugged. “I liked you. I am sorry this has to happen.”
He sounded suddenly sad.
But if anything, that just made it worse.
“Young Blood, you don’t have to do anything you don’t want to. We are friends.” I tried again. Maybe if I kept him talking, someone would come along and save me. But even as I thought about it, I knew no one was coming.
I would have to save us.
“I’ll kill you if you hurt him.”
“I know you will try. Now put your shoes on, Gem, before I snap his neck.”
