Chapter 14
In the Egyptian pantheon, in the realm of gods, Sekhmet observed the spectacle. Her human vessel was suffering; she had to flee to save her life. She ground her teeth, she would have done something, but the gods were forbidden to tamper with the mortal's fate.
Ra isn’t as gracious as the mortals think; the great god was cunning and deceptive. He promised her a perfect vessel to live through, to have a family, to raise young like her brothers and sisters, and to live the life that she was denied. By the fate her father drew for her and he indeed delivered that, but he had to ensure it won’t be an easy route.
The gods do not grant your wishes without a price. Now Sekhmet felt the emotions that were lost to her, she felt love, sorrow, betrayal, helplessness, suffering, and anger. Now that is a feeling she knew too well.
She chuckled bitterly. Her father was cruel indeed. He gave her all, but she got nothing. She felt everything, and still so empty inside.
“What amuses you, lady of terror?” Horus the god of the sky entered the great hall to check on his worshipers in the mortal world.
He found Sekhmet watching her weak human, Ra is mocking her. He promised her a body fit for a goddess and gave her this weak thing. Through the realms mirror where they can see the human world, he watched the mortal's weak and disgusting actions.
The lioness goddess turned to face him “What do you want Horus? You have no business in here.” Her face was always in a frozen snarl. He chuckled
“The great hall isn’t only yours aunt, we all can come to oversee our worshipers.” The goddess’ snarl deepened and took two steps closer to the lesser one, her feline eyes started to glow.
The golden specks swirled and her red armor which was golden before, piece by piece emerged. It was an act of aggression; the gods smirked and donned his golden one. But changed his entire form, his face transformed to one of falcon, his stature grew from seven feet to ten.
He looked the formidable god that he is.
Anubis sighed, shaking his head. His brother always liked to taunt the powerful goddess, even though he knows how fragile her sanity was. “Brother that’s enough.” He tried to defuse the tension that clogged the air, but with no luck.
“Don’t interfere, bastard. Remember your place.” Anubis ignored his brother’s harsh remark. He was used to his hurtful words, even though they were half-brothers, but he was a god same as him. He has no right to demean him like that.
The goddess of destruction now full in her armor held her fiery sword threateningly “I had enough of your nonsense Horus, you will treat me with the respect I deserve.” The god of the sky laughed amused
“You know you can’t kill me Sekhmet. After what happened with my father and what the Greek did to the Titans, that option was taken from us, no god can kill another.”
“Yes that’s true....” The goddess mused “But that doesn’t mean I can’t hurt you so bad that it will take you years and years to heal.” The glint in her eyes promised to deliver her threat.
Anubis changed into his armor ready to put an end to this idiocy, if the two fought the destruction would be great and not only in the realm of gods but in the mortal world too. Whatever happens here affects the humans, peace, struggle even love. Their emotions bled into the other materialistic world.
The two gods charged, ready to fight when Ra entered. Raising his both hands, he froze the two adversaries in place.
“What is the meaning of this?” His roaring voice shook the walls around them, stirred the wind, and made the sun aflame. The great hall's air thickened and humidity was clogging it.
Horus lowered his sword bowing his head “Great god-king, we were just measuring our strength.”
“Don’t you dare lie to me Horus, I know what you did.” Horus straightened ready to counter, but the god raised his hand cutting him off
“You have been summoned to the Greek pantheon, Aries needs our help.” Horus growled, he was being punished like a youngling. By doing a minor god’s work, but he can’t decline a direct order from the great god.
“As you wish, great king.”
Ra faced his daughter exasperated “Enough with your rage flares Sekhmet, this needs to end now.”
“Tell me father, why did you continue to disrespect me like this? Even when you are trying to repay me as you said before, you still mock me.” Her voice was laced with venom and hate for him. He was the one responsible for all of this and still playing her for a fool.
“Daughter, it is not easy to create the perfect vessel for you. The human still have their own free well. I can’t take that from them, this is the only reason their prayers give us powers. And if I did that other gods will do the same, then the chaos will be upon our creation and we will meet our doom.”
“Always with the perfect answer father. Never confessing your own faults. Never showing regret for what you did to me.” The goddess smiled bitterly and returned to her normal form.
Anubis felt sorry for her. She has suffered for a long time and still does. Even his father who was killed at the hands of his own brother didn’t suffer like her. The gods are cruel, selfish, and ruthless indeed.
Like the mortals always said, they never give without taking in return, and he knew Ra was afraid to give her what she needed to be whole like her pairs. He is afraid of what she would become then.
He still remembers the amount of destruction that she has caused. And how much power it took to amend the consequences. He knew deep down the great god felt sorry for his daughter, but again no one knew what tomorrow will bring.
