Chapter 29 Mr. Kingsley's Heartache
"After sweating so much, you're still covering yourself with a blanket. Aren't you hot?"
Amelia didn't dare to look into his eyes. It was so embarrassing just now, she really didn't want to see him now. Can she have some time to recover?
Damien touched Amelia's head and felt the sweat. He furrowed his eyebrows lightly.
"Quickly go take a shower. If you don't feel like sleeping, get up and go for a run first, then come back and start studying."
Amelia tilted her neck to avoid his hand, and she didn't really hear what he said clearly. She simply responded randomly.
"I understand."
Damien looked at his own hand, his eyes dimmer than before. He glanced at himself, didn't say anything more, and walked out of the room.
Hearing the sound of the door closing, Amelia felt relieved. She lay back on the bed, but in her vision, it seemed like all she could see were Mr. Kingsley's smooth and strong muscles, his perfect abs. She covered her eyes.
Enough, if she keeps thinking about it, she'll make a mistake. If she can't control herself and pounces on Mr. Kingsley...
Amelia rubbed her face and tried to clear her mind. She couldn't believe she was so perverted. It must be because she's too inexperienced. She has lived for nineteen years without even holding a boy's hand, so that's why she's like this.
She quickly sat up and tidied the bed. After hesitating for a long time, she finally went into the bathroom.
She was covered in sweat, and she wouldn't feel comfortable without washing up.
The bathroom still seemed to be filled with a strong hormone scent, causing Amelia's face to flush again, and her eyes uncontrollably wandered around, fortunately without seeing anything she shouldn't have.
After quickly taking a shower, she left the bedroom and saw Damien sitting at the dining table.
"Come and have breakfast."
"Oh!"
Amelia took a deep breath and sat across from him.
Damien's gaze scanned her, slightly furrowing his brows.
"You're going to run in that?"
Amelia looked down at the dress she was wearing, a long skirt that reached her ankles, tightly covering her whole body.
"Run?"
Damien closed his iPad and looked at Amelia.
"Weren't we supposed to go for a run after breakfast?"
"Huh?"
She didn't remember saying that.
"Let's eat first."
Damien didn't say anything else, and Ms. Linda brought breakfast to the table. He motioned for Amelia to start eating.
He usually would help Amelia with her food. In the past, Amelia would smile gratefully at him, but today she didn't dare to lift her head. It wasn't that she didn't want to thank him, it was just that whenever she saw his face, her mind automatically stripped him naked, making her feel guilty.
After finishing the meal, Damien stood up and asked Amelia to go change.
There was a small area in the dressing room dedicated to Amelia's clothes. There were clothes Damien had bought for her last time, as well as those Ms. Linda had prepared for her these past few days, all hanging in the wardrobe. However, Amelia had not worn most of them.
When she went out with Damien, she would wear the dress he bought, but when she went out to meet Ashley, she would change into her old clothes.
Amelia found a workout outfit inside, a pink sports T-shirt paired with a white skirt that exposed her long and slender legs perfectly.
Ms. Linda nodded approvingly.
"Young Master, my taste is not bad, right? Look at how good Amelia looks in it, so youthful and energetic!"
Damien's eyes stayed on Amelia, equally amazed but with some other emotions as well. He glanced at Ms. Linda and spoke in a low voice.
"Next time, buy a slightly longer dress."
Amelia walked over to Damien, touched her stomach, which still didn't show at all. Her waist was still as slender as before, but in a few months, she definitely wouldn't be able to fit into such clothes anymore.
"Mr. Kingsley, can I go for a run now?"
Damien's adam’s apple moved, and his lips couldn't help but curl into a smile.
"It's okay, we won't run. Let's just go for a walk."
He realized that Amelia was actually quite naive. Did she believe in him, even though she knew it might not be good for her?
He grabbed Amelia's water bottle from the table and took her out with him. Amelia actually wanted to ask where her phone had gone.
This residential area is an upscale community with beautiful green scenery. There is also a huge lake ahead, where many people exercise in the morning. Although there is a gym, many people still prefer to run outdoors.
Amelia walked along the lake with Damien. Damien didn't say anything all along, but Amelia felt like he was lost in thought. She didn't want to disturb him, so she remained silent, quietly following him.
The morning air was exceptionally good, not hot and stuffy, but cool and comfortable. Amelia took several deep breaths of the moist air, watching the people jogging ahead.
"The past is in the past, and we should always look forward," Damien suddenly spoke, and Amelia quickly turned to look at him.
But what did Mr. Kingsley mean by this statement? It was so random, and she truly didn't understand.
Seeing Amelia's puzzled expression, Damien felt a bit embarrassed. It was the first time in his life that he tried to comfort someone, and he wasn't very good at it. He was used to teasing and being teased by friends and family; comforting others was not in his skillset.
"I mean, how do you feel about your family? Are you going back?" Amelia's face instantly turned gloomy as she tightly clenched her fingers. She didn't understand why Damien suddenly asked her this.
She bit her lip. "Mr. Kingsley, if my staying at your place is causing you trouble, I can move out. But regarding the baby, you said before that you wanted him, and I... don't want to terminate the pregnancy."
Amelia hung her head, gripping her palm tightly to prevent herself from shedding tears. She wasn't someone who cried easily, but why did she feel so upset at this moment? She didn't know what she had done to cause trouble for Mr. Kingsley, and she wouldn't stoop to ask, or to say that she would change.
Their relationship wasn't that deep to begin with, and the fact that he had taken her in was already good enough.
With a frown on his forehead, Damien felt a sense of urgency seeing Amelia's resilience. His tone became slightly anxious. "You've misunderstood me. That's not what I meant."
Damien instinctively touched his own nose. "I'm not good at comforting people, and I rarely find myself needing to speak indirectly. So, I'll just say it directly—I mean to say that your parents favor your brothers and treat you poorly. You've always been mistreated at home, so how about not going back?"
In reality, Damien had no right to say these words. They were Amelia's parents, her family of nineteen years.
Her feelings towards her family were something Damien couldn't understand, and naturally, he couldn't make decisions for her.
But after reading the investigation materials that Noah had brought him, Damien really couldn't resist the urge to keep Amelia by his side, to prevent her from going back to that home, from being mistreated and bullied again.
However, he had no right to interfere, so today he had only wanted to comfort her gently, but Amelia had almost misunderstood.
