Chapter 54

Chapter 54
Annie sits looking at the setting of the sun over the horizon. There was such a feeling of calm within her being. It almost feels like the rays of the sun, red and orange has a hypnotic effect on her. As she enjoys the buzz of inner calm there was another piece of her mind that seems to knock against her memory bank. Keeping her body motionless she starts to noticed through the whirlpool of emotions fragments of information that doesn’t make sense. Yet she just knew it was somehow important. She wants to get up. At the same time, it feels like she needs to rub across her eyes to remove the fog within her mind.
“Annie…” the voice intrudes into her mind.
She instantly has a sense of annoyance. Again, she has the need to get up but it was like her body didn’t want to comply.
“Annie, I am doctor Stevens. Can you here me?” the woman’s voice was stern.
“Hmm,” she tried keeping her focus on the horizon but it was now like the sun has moved. There was now just blackness. There was no sign of the red and orange colors.
“I want you to open your eyes.” The doctor said calmly before she shows a light into her eyes.
“Where is the sun?” Annie asked groggily.
“I want you to focus on my light.” The woman said sternly.
“I am,” she said annoyed but with a slurred voice.
“Focus on me.” Grace said again. She watches the progress liking the recovering and the vitals on the monitor looks excellent.
“What happened?” Annie felt like a piece of cloth was being removed from her eyes. Her eyes suddenly steady on the woman with the white coat and cold eyes.
“What do you remember, Annie?”
“My mom…” she said puzzled.
“What else? I want you to focus but stay calm.” Grace said as she takes notes.
“My mom is in hospital. She had a stroke.” Annie said frowning. She wants to move into a sitting position but still can’t. It was like the bed was holding her hostage.
“Your mother has recovered, Annie. Do you remember Aaron? The promise you made to him.”
Annie just looked at Grace. The words come flooding back. The man asking her to be his mistress for hire. She now recalls she agreed to his terms.
“Whore for hire,” she said flatly.
Grace Stevens smiles before leaving the hospital room. “Keep a close eye on her.” She orders nurse Mary.
Grace enters her private office. She immediately reached for the phone making a call. “Hello sir,”
“How is she?” he asked brusquely.
“The first awakening looks good sir. Am I allowed to continue to the next step?” she asked eagerly.
“Yes, what about Aaron and Gregor?”
“They both are still in containment. I thought I would start with Annie, learning through her where I should head with the men.”
“I leave this in your hands but I want daily reports.”
“Yes sir.”
The line was disconnected. Grace slipped behind her desk switching on the monitor. She has a perfect view of Annie. Sitting back in her chair she watches the woman. She hates the fact that Aaron always chooses her no matter what happens. Now since she excepted, he would never look at her the same way, this makes perfect sense to experiment on her instead. She quickly looks up when there was a knock on her door.
“Come in.” she closed the monitor watching the door.
“Do you have a moment, doctor?”
“Come inside, Mary.”
“Doctor, what’s happening with Annie Black?” Mary knew Grace Steven’s field of specialty was stroke victims. She was worried certainly not in the financial situation for any type of lawsuit.
“I know this is much to ask, Mary.” Grace stood from her chair. She rounds her desk to now sit on the side of her desk looking at the nurse. “Do not asked questions but do what I asked. I will compensate you for your trust in me.”
“Are you sure doctor?” Mary was openly worried but in truth she needs the extra income.
“I am. I promise no harm will come to Annie Black. Later today, a group of specialists will arrive to see Annie. You are the only nurse allowed to do her aftercare.”
“Okay doctor. I will follow your lead.”
“Thank, Mary.”
Annie slowly looks around in the hospital bedroom. No matter how much she tries it was like there was a blanket over her memories. She does remember fragmented pieces but nothing makes sense. The longer she lays on the bed, the more she starts feeling a kind of anger.
“Aaron…where are you? What does this have to do with the deal you forced onto me?” she mumbles recalling that piece of information. She has the sense of wanting to get out of bed. But it was like her body doesn’t want to work along. Now throwing the blanket from her body, she attempts to slide her feet over the bed,
“Annie, what are you doing?” Mary quickly slipped back into the hospital room.
“I want to get up.” She said breathless, as it now feels like she has run a marathon.
“Okay, let me help you.” Mary grabs hold of the wheelchair.
“Do I have to sit in that thing?” Annie glares at the chair.
“This is only for moving around. Your legs are too weak to hold your body.” Mary said directly.
Once Annie found herself seated in the wheelchair, she actively understood how weak her body was. It puzzles her being in the hospital. The question she wanted answered too…why was she here? What happened to her memories? It feels like she was missing something very important.
“Where am I?” she asked Mary who now pushed her out of the room. Annie looks around, the place was sterile. It took a moment before she understood, there seemed to be no other hospital personal.
“You are in a private hospital, Annie.”
“I can’t afford a place like this, I think?” Annie rubs across her face feeling confused by that pointed remark.
