my obsession
my obsession
Dominic’s P.O.V.
I froze as soon as her words hit my eardrums.
Everything that happened back then before I threw Violet out of my life reeled in front of my eyes like a horror movie.
Violet talking with a few men at a party, laughing and joking.
Sara whispering doubts in my ears, taking advantage of my possessiveness and jealousy.
Back then, I didn't even realize when my love became obsession, hence giving Sara an opportunity to sow the seeds of doubts in my mind.
Me checking her phone every night after she slept.
Sending people to spy on Violet whenever she go out, even if it was nothing but grocerry shopping or a stroll in the park.
Sara fueling doubts with every single photo she showed him, with every single video of Violet being cozy up with other males coming to him from an unknown number.
“That…. that’s not going to happen again, my love. I will be the biggest fool in this world if I don’t learn my lesson from my past mistakes,” I uttered with great difficulty.
My past mistakes overwhelmed me with guilt and heartbreak.
Violet paid the price of my stupidity and the coldness in her voice right now threw me to the brink.
The next second, the cold tone of hanging up the call hit my eardrums.
My heart almost leaped out of my mouth in panic when I realized that Violet hung up on me.
I shot up at my feet and ran towards the door.
“Mr. Whitemoore.” I heard someone calling behind me when I ran out of the room, but I didn’t stop.
I couldn’t stop. I had to see Violet right now.
I was the reason that she went into hiding the last time, and I knew very well how well she hid herself.
It was only my sheer luck that she came back and forgave me.
Surely, I am possessive about her, but the price I paid for my possessiveness back then is enough for one life span.
I almost thrashed the elevator button, pissed that the door didn’t open immediately.
“Mr. Whitemoore. Where are you going? You have an international conference in fifteen minutes.” Emily yelled behind me.
“Postpone it, Emily. I need to go to Violet like right now.” I replied to her impatiently and ran inside the elevator as soon as the door started opening.
“B… but, Mr. Whitemoore.” She was about to say something more with that troubled expression on her face when I gave her a stern look.
I saw her standing outside the elevator with the same troubled expression when the door closed.
I dialled Violet’s number while waiting for the elevator to descend quickly.
My heart sank when she didn’t pick up the call.
I ran towards my car when the elevator stopped at the basement where my car was parked.
I dialled Violet’s number again but to my dismay, she still didn’t pick up the call.
She was angry.
Super angry…
I didn’t mean to pry into her privacy, but with Sara on the run and so many vultures lurking around her, I installed an app on her phone to keep track of her calls and messages.
She had accepted me in her life again, but she still had her guard up against me.
She will never tell me if anyone threatens her or gives her a hard time.
My only intention was to keep her safe.
But it backfired on me because of my own stupidity.
“Come on, love. Don’t be so heartless.” I grumbled while looking at the phone screen helplessly.
I opened the door of my car and almost threw myself on the driver’s seat.
“Mr. Whitemoore… wait.” I heard Emily yelling behind me, her voice filled with panic, but I closed the door and started the engine immediately, connecting the calls with the car's Bluetooth.
My heart almost stopped beating in horror when she cut off the call after the second ring.
I floored the accelerator and drove the car towards her company.
I groaned in frustration when I saw the COO of my company, also my best friend, Finn Keller, called me.
I knew it was about the meeting that I skipped a few minutes earlier, but Violet’s anger needed to subside, or I would be doomed.
“Yes, Finn?” I asked him calmly after I picked up the call with resignation.
“What the hell are you thinking, Dom? I have been working on this project for more than six months, and today it was the final meeting. How could you do this?” He yelled at me, bursting in anger before I could even finish my sentence.
“I did something stupid and now Violet is so angry with me that she has blocked me.” I told him the reason without any hesitation.
“And what did you do?” he asked me flatly.
“I learned that Nicholas Blackwood called her, and I called her right after she finished her call with him. I had a slip of tongue and.” I trailed the rest of the sentence. He was smart enough to get the whiff.
“And how did you know that Nicholas called him?” He asked me again, his voice still flat, but I could sense doubts and accusations in his voice.
I didn’t answer him immediately but I was now feeling guilty about prying on her privacy, but I did it only to protect her.
“Gosh, Dom! How could you be so stupid? Why can’t you learn from your past mistakes?” he yelled at me again after a tense short silence.
“I Know, I messed up, okay? But I did it only to protect her. She and Natasha are attacked so frequently, and…. And Sara is still on run.” I replied to him in a frustrated voice.
My heart was now running a marathon against my ribcage, making me feel a light pain in my chest.
“Did you ask for her permission before doing that?” he asked me again, completely ignoring my point here.
I was speechless with no retort here.
Because I didn’t.
I heard him taking a deep breath before he spoke again.
“I am going to fix this mess related to this project, Dom. You are on your own.” He said to me in a tired voice, and before I could say a word again, he hung up.
“Traitor.” I muttered, my eyes on the traffic ahead.
“Why does everyone have to come out today?” I yelled in frustration when the traffic in front of me didn’t clear up as it should have. The traffic was now going on at the pace of a snail.
