101- Father
101- Father
ROY
Every time I looked at Garnet, my urges got the best of me and I found myself losing in that, wanting nothing but to feel her and be with her.
The way she was taking over my senses was so mesmerizing that I was left with the inability to think of anything else but her.
I loved it when she was flushed, looking so shy but also burning in the same fire of desire as me. It gave me immense rapture to see her like this. I was about to move my hand further but my phone rang- too much for my disappointment.
"Pick up the call, Roy."
I have promised or else I would never hold myself back. I groaned and pulled away.
"I'm not done with you." I said moving to the table, my words stiffed, I truly love her reactions.
I walked to the table and saw it was Lucien calling at this hour. Perplexed, I picked the call.
"Hello?"
Garnet got down and turned to me, putting her elbow on the counter and leaning on it, enticing me more.
"Hello, Roy, You remembered, Mr. Layne left for a business t-trip?" He asked in a shaky voice.
"Hmm.. what about it?" I winked at Garnet, she chuckled and turned her head away from me.
"Roy. When he was coming back.. He had an accident. He might not be a-able to make it.."
My eyes widened when I heard it. My heart stopped as the earth beneath my feet stopped moving. My whole being sifted as my voice was stuck in my throat.
"I have sent you the name of the hospital. Come soon.. please." He said in a croaked voice.
"Okay.. I am c-coming." I said in a broken voice and cut the call quickly. I lost my breath, my capability to think. This couldn’t happen.
"What happened, Roy?" I asked, concerned.
"I-I have to go, Garnet." I said breathlessly, looking for the keys of his car desperately. I didn’t know why I wanted to meet the person I hate that much but I must.
"Tell me what happened first." She asked, getting worried.
"Mr. Layne had an accident." Her eyes widened in astonishment when she heard it.
"I- I have to go." I stammered, running my hand in my hair in dismay.
"I will go with you too."
"No, You don't have to." I said in a low voice.
"Roy, I am also a part of your family. I will go." She said firmly. I didn't reply.
"Here you go." Garnet gave me the keys to the car and we went.
"It's gonna be okay, Roy." Garnet tried to reassure me with a soft smile.
I swallowed hard and whispered, "I hope so."
We reached the hospital. I rushed in quickly and saw Lucien, "How's he?" I asked, panting heavily.
"I don't know." He mumbled sadly, looking away. I cursed under my breath and turned away.
"Roy." Mother came and hugged me.
She cried, I rubbed her back and said, "Don't cry, Mama. It's gonna be alright." I tried to reassure her.
My heart is about to burst from anxiety, I couldn't feel any strength in me. Extreme consternation took over my senses. I tried my best to hold my tears back and keep my posture which was so difficult.
By each passing second I could feel the level of my distress increasing and stirring my mind drastically. I was being suffocated.
"He is going to be fine, Roy." Garnet said, rubbing my arms while putting her head over my shoulder. I remained silent and held her hand.
Soon the doctors came and said, "We did what we could. He is still in critical condition. It all depends on when he will wake up." He explained and left.
After spending a tormenting long time there, without caring about my days and nights. My sleep or hunger, I just stayed there.
"Roy.."
Along with her at my side. Garnet called me. I looked at her and she sat beside me, "Please eat something." She said in a low smooth voice.
"I am not hungry, Garnet." I mumbled looking down.
"You have to eat. Look at you, you think Mr. Layne would be pleased to see his perfect son like this?" She said, trying to make me understand.
I grit my teeth and turned my head away. "Please." She whispered.
"Look, Lucien is also eating." She tried. I sighed deeply and took the sandwich from her.
"You?" I asked.
She smiled and replied, "I will eat later." I gave half of my sandwich to her and muttered, "When I am eating, you should too." She took the sandwich and we ate without exchanging any more words.
We remained like that for I don't know how long. I turned my head and saw Garnet sleeping on my shoulder.
"She's been here all this time." Lucien said, walking to me and leaning on the wall. I hummed and looked at Garnet sleeping peacefully.
"Where's Mother?" I asked.
"With Mr. Layne." Lucien replied. I nodded as a silence fell upon us. Soon, Mother came looking happy,
"Boys.. Your father woke up. H-He is calling you two." She said, barely controlling her voice and tears.
"What happened Roy?" Garnet also woke up as she straightened her back.
"Mr. Layne woke up." I smiled. She smiled back. "I will call the doctor." Lucien paused, looking away with a hint of… guilt?
"No, Lucien you should go and see him, I will call the doctor. He wants to see you two." He nodded and we went, Just me and Lucien went to see Mr. Layne.
"Mr. Layne.." We both call him at the same time.
"Pleased to see you both still care for me." He smiled.
"Don't talk like that. This is not your place. Recover and come back and be the despicable person you are." I tried to say firmly but failed, walking closer.
"I think it is my end." He said sadly.
"Stop talking like that!" Lucien shouted, fuming with rage, slamming his hand down, losing his breaths with a devastated look.
We stood on either side of him, looking at him with our heart being torn. I never knew it would be that hard to see him like this. Why was it so heartbreaking to watch the man I wanted to kill in my dream in this state?
"I know I have made mistakes which are irredeemable.. My apology can never be enough but all this time.. a guilt ate me up. The guilt of taking your freedom Roy and your self confidence Lucien.. But as much of a scum guy I am.. could you guys complete my dying wish?" He asked in a croaked voice.
"Stop it!" We both yelled while bursting into sobs.
“This is not your place, get up and beg for it. Then maybe I will think but not like this. Not here… please.” I cried, covering my mouth, trying to wipe my tears but they brimmed automatically.
"Stop talking like that, nothing is happening to you!" Lucien ended up crying.
“Please forgive Melody, Lucien… not anymore. You know I love her too much… Return her life…” He whispered which I failed to grasp and was too sorrowful to ask as well.
“On the condition that you will get up.” He hissed, failing to hold his cries back.
"Stop talking about this shit, Mr. Layne." I also couldn’t control myself. My heart felt heavy. My chest tightened, a vast amount of misery crushed me.
"I am sorry for being a terrible father but fulfill this old man's last wish.. call me father for the last time." He whispered. The sound of our sobs echoed in the room as tears gleamed down.
"Don't talk like that.. .please." I whispered, holding his hand.
“You can’t do this to us. Y-You can’t have the easy way out. No!” Lucien said desperately, shaking his head in denial.
“You have no idea I have been.. Holding this guilt for a decade-” He tried to speak but I cut him off, “Then why didn’t you open this mouth before?!”
“I.. don’t deserve it. My repentance.. Cannot bring back your life but I am so sorry.. I hope you could forgive me at some point but I beg of you, don’t let me die.. With a heavy heart.”
A tear rolled down his cheek, voice cracking in dolor and it was too much for me to bear, I couldn’t witness it.
"Please.. for one last time." He said he was on the verge of crying.
Me and Lucien looked at each other and then at him. We forced a smile, I squeezed his hand tightly and we both whispered wholeheartedly.
"Father..."
A smile crept upon his lips, "I am glad to have you two as my sons… I am proud of you two" He said, bringing his hand closer and cupping our cheeks with his either hand it gave me a sense of solace I had never sensed before.
I always wanted him to hold me and when he did, it felt divine but the sweet indulgence couldn’t last long, the moment of peace couldn’t last long as he closed his eyes for the final time.
