Chapter 105 Guide
Chapter 105 Guide
JESSICA
"Oh God, oh God, oh God, no no no"
I don't want to open my eyes.
I feel stuck.
I think I am stuck!
My legs are......my legs feel like they are dangling in the air.
Slowly, I opened my eyes.
My heart picked up as I saw a lot of trees.
I am literally the same height as them!
My heart pounded as I looked up.
My paraglider wing is stuck in the tree branches and I am hanging down from it.
Oh God.
I shut my eyes, shaking my head as I gripped the straps holding my LIFE!
I didn't want to do this!
Catherine, why did you convince me?!
Slowly, I opened my eyes and lowered them as carefully as possible.
The height below made my heart drop into my belly as I shut my eyes instantly.
"Oh, God! How do I get out of this? Someone help me, please! I am going to die!"
I looked up, holding the straps with my arms as I clasped my palms.
"God please please I am sorry. I am so sorry, lord. I know this is my punishment but please have mercy on....."
"Jessica,"
"Ah!" I held my chest as I stared at the person who just called my name.
Uncle Xavier.
I furrowed my brows as I held the straps.
Wha....what is he doing here?
He moved close to the tree that I am hanging on, staring at me with worry.
"Hold still," he said.
I gulped as I stared at him.
"Can you fall?"
I furrowed my brows again. "What? Are you insane?"
"I am going to catch you."
I shook my head. "No way"
"You just have to trust me."
"No! I don't even trust myself right now."
"There is no other way to get you down but that. Come on." he urged, raising his hands towards me.
I shook my head.
"It is the only way." he urged.
"I doubt that."
"Just unwrap the straps and let yourself go. I am going to catch you. Trust me."
"I will do no such.....Aah!" I felt a push, making my heart pound loudly as I looked up.
The branches are about to break.
"Oh, God!"
"The branches can't hold you much longer." he took my attention.
I returned them to the branches as I gripped the straps.
"Just do what I said," he urged again.
"I can't."
"Just fucking do it!"
"Stop yelling at me!" I almost cried.
He closed his eyes and gestured at me with his hands.
"I apologize, okay?"
I held down my tears as I tightened my grip on the strap.
"Just trust me. I am going to catch you."
"I don't trust you. You hate me as much as my dad does. You are going to let me fall to my death aren't you?!" I cried.
"I AM NOT GOIN....." he paused, lowering his gaze momentarily, and then looked at me. "I am not going to let you fall to your death. I am not a monster. Just do it."
"No!"
"What the fuck is your problem?"
"Go away. I don't need your help!"
"You are not helping yourself. Let go right now."
"Leave me a...." I trailed off the minute I felt lowered.
I looked up instantly.
God, no.
Please.
Next, I heard a wood crack.
"Aah!!!!!!"
I began to fall.
My eyes closed, my heart numb and my senses preparing me for both pain and meeting our lord.
Then be sentenced to hell for all eternity.
But I fell into two strong arms, making me freeze.
My nose picked up a familiar expensive scent and my ears took in a steady breathing.
Like relief breathing.
Slowly, I opened my eyes.
I realized I am safe. My eyes moved and fell into the hand holding my bare legs.
Slowly, I looked at the owner of the arms.
I locked eyes with him.
My heart picked up, racing like a marathon and my legs weakened.
He is staring at me with a mixture of relief and worry.
My heart raced as his green eyes felt like they were looking into my soul.
In the same way it did back in his suite.
I still can't put together how I mistook his room for mine!
Now he is....I am in his.....
Why do we keep finding ourselves alone in the same space?!
"Are you okay?"
I furrowed my brows a bit.
"Are you hurt?" he asked, tightening his grip on me.
What the....
I moved and dropped down on my feet, moving away from him instantly.
"Stop holding me like that!" I snapped, fixing my blouse.
He raised his brows and scoffed.
"Seriously?"
I scowled at him.
"That's how you say thank you for saving your life?"
"I told you to go away, didn't I?"
He raised brows.
"I didn't need your help anyway."
"Oh really?"
"Yes. Some rescue team was going to come for me if you hadn't intervened."
"Hmm. I see. So, tell me, ma'am. Where is the so-called rescue team?"
I stared at him.
"Cause I don't see them anywhere," he said, looking around.
"Catherine is on her way with them as we speak." I defended.
"Of course. And Catherine is that terrible friend,"
What?
"Of yours who decided to set you up with danger even though you are the most terrified little being that has ever existed," he said nonchalantly.
Ugh! This jerk!
"Don't call my friend terrible. She is an amazing person."
He hummed.
"I don't expect you to understand the word amazing. Cause you are a heartless person. "
He stared at me.
"And secondly, what do you mean by I am the most terrified little being that has ever existed?"
"Cause you are," he shrugged.
I shook my head in disbelief.
"You weren't even that high in the sky with the paraglider but you were already screaming for help," he said, scoffing.
God, I hate him.
"You shouldn't have agreed to paragliding. Why did you?"
"None of your business. I can do whatever I want. Now stop talking to me," I ordered, turning away as I took out my phone for my back pocket.
I pressed the side button of my phone and got greeted with a red battery.
"What? No no no," I pressed the side button countless times.
The red battery kept appearing.
"Seriously? Right now?"
Sighing, I rubbed my temples as I recalled my phone being at a very low battery percentage when Cath dragged me out of her suite to help cheer me up.
I guess I am pretty cheered up right now. I am in the middle of nowhere in what looks like a forest!
How do I get back to the resort?
Cath is coming for me right?
She better be.
What if she isn't?
God, help me.
I heard a typing sound behind me, making me look back.
Uncle Xavier is busy with his phone.
His phone.
He could help me call Catherine or my mom right?
I turned away as I thought about what I just told him. I told him to stop talking to me.
I looked his way again.
He is still busy with his phone.
Well, if he doesn't help me then he is more than heartless.
He is a monster.
I turned to him properly and cleared my throat, making him look at me.
"I need to make a call. My phone is dead."
He raised his brows.
I heaved a sigh. "Can you please give me your phone so I can call my mom or best friend?"
"You want my phone?" he asked.
"Yes,"
"Sorry, but it....."
"I knew it," I retorted, hitting my hands on my thighs. "You never disappoint, do you, Mr Cole?"
He furrowed his brows.
"Why are you always heartless?"
He scoffed. "Excuse me?"
"No. You can't make excuses. Stop making excuses for your wickedness. It is very bad."
He put his phone and hands in his pocket as he stared at me.
"You don't want to help me with your phone so I can call for help. I am in the middle of nowhere. Don't you want me to go back to the resort where it is safe?"
He smiled slightly.
I shook my head. "What is wrong with you? Why are you like this? What did I ever do to you for you to hate me this much?"
He took out his phone from his pocket and began walking towards me.
My heart picked up as I took steps back.
"Wha...what are you....."
He moved his phone to my face, catching me off guard.
"What the....."
"Can you see a fucking signal?" he retorted.
I didn't see any. No signal at all.
"Huh?"
I flinched a bit.
"No?" he asked.
I didn't respond and he withdrew his phone from my face.
"You need to listen before you conclude, Jessica. It is not that hard to listen," he said, staring at me.
I held his gaze as my heart raced, regretting a bit.
"I just saved you. I won't gain anything if I don't give you my fucking phone," he said, averting his eyes from me as he turned and took steps away.
I rubbed my arm as I stared at him.
Okay, Jessica. You need to relax.
"I need to get back," I said.
He is focused on his phone, raising it for a signal.
"Why are you even here?"
He looked at me.
My heart reacted.
"I came for a tour with a group. I left them while looking for a signal."
A tour?
"Actually, they left me. I have no idea where they are right now," he added.
"Are you saying you are lost?"
He scoffed. "No."
"So you know the way back to the resort then,"
He furrowed his brows slightly but smirked slightly, making me furrow my brows a bit.
"Of course I do."
"Are you sure?"
He scoffed. "You underestimate me, don't you, fireball?"
"Can you please lead the way?"
He hummed. "Let's go," he said, walking ahead.
"Wait,"
He stopped in his tracks.
"I thought we were supposed to take that way," I said, pointing behind me.
"Who is the guide here?"
"But the paraglider brought me from....."
"Really, fireball, the paraglider?" he retorted "I am a hundred percent sure your eyes were closed all through the ride."
I stared at him, feeling guilty.
My eyes were really closed.
"You have no idea how you moved or which direction you came from."
I looked away as guilt washed over me.
"I am the guide here, right?"
I looked at him.
"So if you really want to get back to the resort, you follow me, got it?"
I rubbed my arm slightly.
"Great. Now let's go," he said, resuming his walk ahead.
Still rubbing my arm, I looked behind me.
The forest is quiet and too green.
I turned back to uncle. He is still walking ahead.
I looked up the tree and I saw the paraglider and the strap that held me.
What if Catherine abs the rescue team gets here and doesn't see me but the paraglider?
She will be worried.
And she must be trying my phone too.
God, why is this happening?
I moved my eyes to uncle.
He is still walking ahead.
Sighing, I followed him.
At least I would get back to the resort soon.
Then call Catherine with mom's phone in case she is out here searching for me.
I can't wait to get to the resort.
MINUTES LATER......
I rubbed my left arm as I walked, regretting my decision. I shouldn't have listened to Catherine.
If I didn't let her convince me, I wouldn't be here following this world's most heartless person just to get to the resort.
I stared at him as he walked ahead.
Sighing, I averted my eyes as I recalled how Catherine literally dragged me out of her room and to the beach for the paraglider.
All in the name of cheering me up.
Don't get me wrong, she is the sweetest and I love her. I don't get friends like her every day.
But doing this like paragliding? Geez.
She wanted to forget what happened yesterday.
I don't think I will ever forget.
My dad showed home and everyone that he hates me.
He didn't even let me speak.
He had to.....to me hit me like that in front of everyone.
And over a lie.
Kendra lied about everything.
I can't believe she would do such a thing. What could her reason though? What did ever do to her?
FLASHBACK.......
AT THE BEACH.......
"Go get the other pale," I said to David, making him run past me instantly.
I chuckled as I moved my hands on the sand castle.
"Hey, nerd," Kendra's familiar voice took my attention.
I got on my feet as she got closer.
"Nice sand castle," she said, standing in front of me and folding her hands.
"Uh....thanks,"
She scoffed. "You know you are dumber than any nerd I have met."
I furrowed my brows.
What?
"Still you managed to get yourself a boy like Michael,"
I stared at her.
"But hey, guess what he said to me." She said, moving closer to me. She leaned closer to my ear. "He said he enjoys speaking to me more than his boring girlfriend."
My heart clenched.
"And," she paused, still leaning to my ear. "he wishes he had met me first."
Next, she grabbed my hair, kicked my leg a bit, and pulled me down.
"Hey!" I called as I found myself on top of her.
"Get off me!" she yelled, making me beyond confused.
"What are you doing?" I asked, struggling to get out of her hold.
She gripped my hair tightly.
"Ah! Stop!"
"Get off me! Are you crazy!"
I shook my head as it replayed in my head.
That act was the least I expected from her.
I still can't put together what her reasons for doing that were.
I was dumbfounded. Confused to the core.
I literally thought she wanted to join me in making sand castles.
But no. She only came to ridicule me, tell me about Michael, and set me up.
I hope she is happy. My dad hit me without mercy.
My cheek still hurts.
I rubbed my cheeks, feeling my heart aching as that moment replayed in my head.
The way he glared at me after he hit me.
Kendra's smirk after he did.
I realized that was what she wanted to happen.
And she got what she wanted.
So I do hope she is happy.
"What's wrong with your cheek?" Uncle caught my attention.
He is staring at me as we walk.
I lowered my hand. "Nothing. How far is the way?"
He furrowed his brows "Way to what?"
I huffed. "Way to the resort,"
"Oh. Not that far. Ish," he said, facing his way.
I stared at him with furrowed brows.
He looked my way.
I kept staring at him.
"What?"
"Are you sure you know where we are going?
He huffed. "Of course, I know where we are going. Just a few miles and..."
"A few miles?!" I blurted, stopping in my tracks.
He stopped too as I stared at him.
"What do you mean by a few miles?"
He heaved a sigh, putting his phone in his pocket "Okay. I am going to be honest. I uh....I think we are lost."
I froze.
He nodded.
"What?!"
