Viktor had his in front of him in a boxing stance, jumping around on his feet as he prepared for his opponent in front of him.
"Come in," He called, smirking at the person in front of him.
He had just taken a step forward to take the first jab, but he ended up with his ass on the floor.
His jaw was hurting and he tried to use his gloved hands to hold his punched jaw when he saw his opponent walking toward him again.
"No, no, time out, time out!" He shifted back with his buttocks, but his opponent didn't stop approaching him.
"Oh, spare me already, Jess!" He groaned and fell on his back.
"Come on, get up," Jess said, standing with each of her legs beside Viktor's waist and offering him a hand.
Viktor sighed in relief and gave her his hand.
Jess drew him up to his feet, and rolled her eyes at him, "You're a shame to men,"
Viktor scoffed, "Agreed, whoever loves pain can be the king of men, for me? Nope, thanks," He replied and followed her out of the boxing ring.
"Stop following me, Viktor," Jess said as she walked towards an office.
"Quite bossy," Viktor continued following her as if he hadn't heard her request.
They walked past two guys sitting on a bench and preparing to box, walking into a dimly lit passage.
Jess ignored Viktor and kept walking, She reached an office, pushed the door open, and walked inside.
Viktor hurried and held the door before it could shut.
He cautiously walked into the office to find Jess casually sitting behind the table as if she owned the place. The office was classy, right amount of decoration and furniture.
"Um, what are you doing here, Jess?" He questioned and went to sit in front of her table.
"You know, I still don't know why you're here," Jess reminded; she pulled out a laptop from the drawer and opened it.
"I'm here for the obvious reason, Jess, to know why you're here. The last time I checked, you were in the States," He shrugged.
Jess smiled; she raised her eyes from her computer and looked at him, "How about you, Viktor? Why are you here? The last time I checked, you were in the were a friend to some jerk," She rolled her eyes.
Viktor was confused; there were only two people who were his best friends: Aiden and Ken; which of them had turned into a jerk to Jess?
He pulled his chair closer and placed his elbows on her table, leaning his body closer to look at her.
"Tell me straight, Jess, you're confusing me with your answer," He said.
Jess sighed, "Before I tell you, I need to know how you found out that I was here in Miami; did Aiden send you?" She questioned.
"I saw you last week at the grocery store down the street; I wasn't so sure it was you because you had driven out so fast before I could take a proper look," He explained.
"I tried calling your number but I was told that it doesn't exist anymore, and I've been so busy that I forgot to call Aiden or Ken to ask them about you," Viktor frowned slightly.
"Tell me you've not called them, please?" Jess panicked.
If Viktor ever called anyone and told them that he had seen her in Miami, they would surely try to look for her here, and they would find her.
Viktor shook his head, "No, I totally forgot about it after that because I believed that it couldn't be you, I believed you were still over there with them. But when I saw you yesterday at the same grocery store, I knew it was you because you stood for a long time speaking with some guy before you left in your car. So, I had to follow you and that's how I knew that you lived in the apartment on top of this building," Viktor narrated.
Jess sighed, "And you have still told no one, right?" She asked again.
Viktor did not need to tell anyone; it really meant a lot to her. She did not want her three years' effort to go to waste like that. She didn't want to have anything to do with them again; they disowned her and treated her like trash; going back or letting them find her would mean she had no self-worth herself.
"No, Jess. Who are you running away from?" Viktor asked calmly.
"Everyone. Family, Kenneth. Moon, Ariel..." She answered with a sad tone.
Viktor was quiet, many questions were swirling inside his head, but he only asked them one at a time, "What happened with Ariel? I thought you both were good friends,"
Jess nodded, "I betrayed her with Ken; It's a long story. All you have to know is that I betrayed Ariel, Kenneth broke my heart, my family disowned me, and as much as this last part might hurt you, I hate Moon, she's a bitch, and I hope she dies by a train. Did you know she had a child for Aiden?" She ranted.
Viktor looked away from Jess, his mind going back to his last moment with Moon. Shebjad told him that she never loved him, that Aiden was the one she loved, and she was having his child. It's been three years, yet it still hurts.
"Yes, I know...Candy. You know, I thought Moon had told me that the baby was Aiden's just to chase me away, but after Ken confirmed that the baby was Aiden's, I knew that Moon had meant every single word she said to me that day. I guess we are just two people who happened to love the wrong persons," He sighed.
"Yeah..." Jess replied.
"I don't know about you, but I don't love him anymore, as long as I'm concerned, Kenneth is dead to me," Jess said in a serious tone.
