Chapter 322 Birthday
Chapter 322 Birthday
Caspian asked Victoria, "Want to keep going?"
Victoria shook her head. She'd already gotten what she came for.
Caspian took her hand. "Then let's go home."
Victoria wanted to have the Royal Poinciana gemstone designed and polished into cufflinks as a gift for Caspian. If he stayed with her, she wouldn't be able to do it.
So Victoria said, "Don't you have work right now?"
Caspian raised an eyebrow. "Work isn't as important as you."
Victoria said matter-of-factly, "No way. You need to go work and make money for me to spend."
Beside them, the auctioneer broke into a cold sweat.
Miss Windsor was too bold. She just came right out and said she wanted to spend Caspian's money without a hint of embarrassment. Most women, whether they cared about money or not, would at least pretend they didn't. But she said it so shamelessly.
She really wasn't ordinary. No wonder Caspian was head over heels for her.
Caspian found it amusing. How had he never noticed she was such a little money-lover before?
"Sure you don't need me to come with you?" he asked.
Victoria nodded. "Quit stalling and go to work."
After parting with Caspian, Victoria threw herself into her studio. By eleven at night, she'd finally finished the cufflinks.
Only after carefully packaging them did she pick up her phone.
There were several messages from Caspian, most of them sweet nothings. Victoria picked out a few of the more normal ones to reply to.
She put down her phone, stretched, and headed to the bathroom for a shower.
By the time she'd finished getting ready, it was eleven-fifty.
Almost midnight.
Once midnight hit, it would be Caspian's birthday.
This was Caspian's first birthday since they'd met. Victoria was debating whether to call him when a video call came through.
Victoria answered. Caspian's handsome face immediately filled the screen—along with his well-defined abs.
Victoria froze for a moment.
Though she wasn't someone who spent much time thinking about men, she couldn't help but linger whenever she saw Caspian's abs.
Perfectly proportioned muscles with clean-cut lines, refined yet radiating masculine appeal—exactly the way Victoria liked them.
Victoria quickly looked away, lips curving as she lowered her eyes to hide her smile.
Deliberately trying to tempt her.
Scheming man.
Victoria said pointedly, "It's so late—aren't you cold wearing so little?"
Caspian frowned slightly. What went wrong? Why wasn't she looking at him?
Didn't she love his abs?
He'd carefully chosen this angle so every muscle was visible. She should be into this.
Caspian casually let his robe fall open, revealing more. "Not cold."
When Victoria didn't react, he moved to stand by the floor-to-ceiling windows.
Victoria: "Aren't you going to bed?"
Caspian's dark eyes fixed on the camera.
He didn't speak, but he didn't hang up either.
Victoria glanced at the time—11:59—and figured out his little scheme.
When the clock struck twelve, Victoria's voice came through the screen to Caspian's ears.
"Happy birthday, Caspian."
Having gotten what he wanted, Caspian's lips curved into a beautiful smile.
Victoria: "Get some sleep. See you tomorrow."
Caspian: "Okay. See you tomorrow."
Victoria waited a moment. When he still held up his phone, she asked, "Why aren't you hanging up?"
Caspian: "You hang up first."
Victoria was speechless. What difference did it make?
After she ended the video call, Caspian finally put down his phone.
He ran his fingers over the ring, anticipating his birthday for the first time ever.
For the past twenty-five years, he'd never looked forward to his birthday.
His birthday was that woman's death anniversary, so he never celebrated it.
But this year was different.
This year, the woman he loved most was by his side.
Caspian couldn't wait to marry her, which made him actually look forward to this day arriving.
The next day, he ate a meal with Gavin at the old estate.
The table was quiet. Without Victoria, the grandfather and grandson exchanged a few words before falling silent.
After dinner, Caspian stood to leave.
Gavin suddenly stopped him. "Your mother..."
Gavin trailed off, starting but not knowing how to continue.
Caspian's eyes showed no emotion. "I did what I promised you. I don't owe her anything."
With that, he turned and left the old estate.
Gavin sighed. Children had their own destinies. Even if he wanted to help, he was powerless.
At the entrance to the Howard family estate.
As soon as Caspian got in the car, Stefan turned to look at him.
Stefan: "Boss, should I pick up Miss Windsor and head to the private estate?"
As Caspian's right-hand man, Stefan naturally knew Caspian planned to propose at the private estate today.
Since construction began on the estate, Caspian had personally overseen everything, putting tremendous effort into it.
Caspian said, "Mm."
After all this preparation, Caspian was finally going to propose! Stefan was thrilled.
Stefan drove to the Windsor family villa.
Caspian called Victoria and said just two words: "Come down."
Today was Caspian's birthday—they'd made plans long ago.
Victoria grabbed the cufflinks, told Amara they shouldn't wait for her for dinner, and headed out.
As soon as she got in the car, Caspian pulled Victoria into his arms.
"Drive," he said.
Victoria asked him, "Where are we going?"
Caspian's eyes were unfathomable. "You'll know when we get there."
The car entered an unfamiliar estate. The main gate was closed tight, with security personnel stationed all around.
Victoria was puzzled. "This place doesn't seem to be open to the public?"
It looked like a private estate that hadn't opened yet. Why did Caspian bring her here?
Caspian looked down, playing with her fingers as he spoke casually. "Right. It's not open to the public."
Victoria: "Then how are we—"
Before she could finish, she saw the security guard at the gate quickly open it and bow ninety degrees to them.
Wasn't it closed?
She raised an eyebrow. "This private estate is yours?"
Caspian smiled and shook his head.
Victoria didn't believe it. If it wasn't his, why would the guards let him in?
Caspian: "It's yours."
"Mine?"
Victoria was confused.
Caspian raised an eyebrow. "Mm. Yours."
The car drove into the private estate for another ten minutes before reaching the building.
A massive shopping complex stood before them.
Caspian took her hand and led her into the elevator, going straight to the sixteenth floor. The top floor.
The top floor was a sky garden restaurant. Through the transparent glass, you could look down over all of Lucent.
The city lights had just come on, dusk had just fallen, and traces of sunset still lingered on the horizon. Streetlights glowed, and bright, glittering high-rises stood everywhere.
It was the most beautiful time of day.
