Alpha Stark is Back
Alpha Stark is Back
Clara found Stark slowly wandering the halls and insisted he come down and have some breakfast. After a few minutes of declining, he reluctantly went with her.
“Alpha, if I may speak openly, you seem a bit down and not yourself. Did something happen at the ball?” She placed a big plate of breakfast foods in front of him.
“Clara, I’m fine. Just tired. I must have had too many spritzers.” He chuckled lightly as he picked up his fork and began to eat. He looked around the dark brown hall with the portraits lining the walls of Alpha’s before him and their families and sighed. “And of course, I still don’t have a mate. Or an assistant apparently.”
Clara smiled and nodded, uncertain of how to respond. Stark was relieved but found it odd that she had nothing to say. He could feel that she was nervous. Not too much, just enough. He wondered if it was because of the news she had heard from the ball and that he was home so early from it. But he didn’t wonder enough to ask her. Perhaps she had a guest and she didn’t want him to find out.
“Clara, you don’t have to stay in here with me. I’ll be fine.”
She smiled again and did a light bow then disappeared into the kitchen.
“Two years ago... a month ago rather,” he said to himself quietly, “we had released the first few sets of rogue wolves as a test, and they made it to Alpha Alexander’s pack in two days. We wanted to see if they would be able to travel well and if they could pick up a scent. Which they did just fine. He called to let me know that his patrolmen had spotted rogue wolves close to his territory but didn’t seem too worried about them. And then Pierce and Rosemary became mates. We didn’t have to give the rogue wolves a different location. We started working on the portal so the wolves could get there quicker.” He looked up towards the Victorian chandeliers his mother had put up in the dining room before she died. “Why did Pierce regenerate and Georgia didn’t?” He took another bite. “Georgia’s a genius. There’s no way she wouldn’t have regenerated. Her room wasn’t a bedroom until she moved in.”
He quickly got up and walked briskly out of the dining room. He could hear Clara calling after him, but he kept going. He made his way to her office and when he got there, he found that the office door was locked.
“Now, why would this door be locked?"
He quickly went to his office that was just down the hall and grabbed the big ring of keys and the master key and went back to Georgia’s office. After trying the master… which annoyingly didn’t work, and a few keys on the big key ring, and he was successful. He opened the door to find boxes upon boxes. It was a storage room. He sighed defeated and started to leave, but then decided to poke around and turned on the lights. To his amazement, many of the boxes were empty. It wasn’t until he got to the counter where Georgia had kept her potions and elixirs that he found filled boxes… with nothing that belonged to Georgia in them. He moved a box and found a burn stain on the counter. He remembered that burn stain. Georgia was learning how to make a specific poison for him and some spilled on the counter. They both watched the poison as it ate away at the wood and she wrote notes in her notebook about its effects. Her notebook.
He dug through the boxes and kept finding random items that he had never seen before. None of which anyone here would have ever used. Until he found small items on the bottom of a few of the boxes that belonged to her. He kept digging. Then stopped and realized that the notebook would have been with her, at the hotel. He grunted as he unpacked every box in her office and found a few of her scribbles on little sticky notes and the like. Everything that was hers was at the complete bottom of the boxes.
“Clever girl. So you are alive.” He smiled. “I’ll get you back. You’ll forgive me and you’ll come back to me. Then we will end this.”
He looked around and wondered who had done all the packing. Clara would never defy him… and she wouldn’t be this clever. Neither would anyone else. That’s when he saw the window opened in the far corner of the office and he remembered seeing something green move in her bedroom the night before. He had thought he was tired, but at that moment in the office he realized it was the toads. He wasn’t supposed to know about them, but Georgia told him everything. She wanted to please him so much that she gave him everything she shouldn’t have.
He ran out of her office and down to the basement to see what was still there. It had always been a lab, so it shouldn’t have been too much changed. To his surprise and delight, it wasn’t. Just a few items were missing.
“Those toads do get around.” He noticed the open window high up close to the ceiling.
He looked around and noticed all the rogue wolves and their cages were gone. He snickered. The portal was no longer there. He didn’t like that. But then remembered they hadn’t created that until after this moment. He had made copies of some of her notes and stashed them where? He looked around trying to remember… in his living quarters. After making a mental list of what he had, he ran out, but was sure to close the window and lock up the basement, and went back to her office and closed the window… then he went to his quarters to look for the notes he had. She didn’t know he had kept them so there was no way she could have asked the toads to get rid of them.
“Oh! Alpha!”
“Not now Clara. I’m busy.” He huffed.
“Nice to see you’re back to normal, Alpha.”
He got up to his room and found the notes in seconds. Now he just needed to figure out how to decipher them.
“Now, Georgia. How long did you think it would take me to figure out that you weren’t dead? Now I just need to find you.”
He rolled out a long map that Georgia had given him for Christmas years ago and looked at the notes he had found.
“And I will find you.”
