The Fleeing Alpha Stark

The Fleeing Alpha Stark

“Hurry it up dammit!  Get me the hell out of here!”  He annoyingly spat to his driver.

“But Alpha, what about your niece?”  The driver asked.

“She’ll be fine.  Just do your job and drive.”

“Yes, Alpha.”  He answered reluctantly and started driving away from the hotel.

Once they were a distance away, he took out his phone and looked up places to go… perhaps he could hide out for a while.  Stark, being a level-headed Alpha, wasn’t panicking.  He was however wishing he hadn’t killed off Georgia so she could get him out of this.  Had his level head have been completely working, he would have wondered who his assistant was.  Instead, he was trying to remember some of the memory elixirs and potions she made him.  He noticed he had some potions in a bag, but didn’t quite make a connection.  On the other hand, he had heard that Mexico would be nice this time of year.  Maybe even Brazil…

“We’re home, Alpha.”

Stark jolted up and noticed the close proximity of the driver to his person.

“You really knocked out there, sir.  If I need to go back to get Rebekah, I’ll need to fuel up and take a little walk to stretch out.”

“There’s no need.  She’ll be fine.”

“Well, it’s no problem, sir…”

“I said she’ll be fine.  Just park the limo.”

“Of course, Alpha.”

The driver took out Starks luggage and placed it in the foyer of the pack house then drove the limo around to the garage as instructed.

Stark, continuing to be levelheaded, after his luggage was taken up to his quarters, he wandered around the pack house thinking of what to do next.  Pierce was unfortunately alive and had to have known what he was doing since the secretary said it was his father Bronson.  But there were no signs of Georgia.  And knowing how much she loved him, he knew she would forgive him and run back to him if she were alive.

“Two years ago.”  He said quietly to himself.  “If I didn’t have Georgia, then my basement lab may not have happened.”

The pack house was quiet.  He had given most of the staff the weekend off since he was gone, and not many people lived in the large mansion.  He and Rebekah lived in the west wing and a few single members of his pack lived in the east wing.  And of course, the servants quarters, in the back area…

He wandered and kept mumbling to himself plans that he had written over the last two years and tried to remember what Georgia had taught him.  He had always thought she would be there to do it all for him… well, until he had her killed.  He rubbed his chest as he felt a foreign pang of loneliness.

“How did Pierce survive, and Georgia didn’t?”  he asked himself quietly.

He stopped at the end of a long hall to and looked around realizing that he was right in front of Georgia’s bedroom.  He placed his hand on the door, and it slowly crept open a few inches.  The light from the hall caught a glimpse of something green moving in her room…

“Alpha Stark.  Sir, I’m so sorry I wasn’t there to greet you.”  Clara, his house manager came up in a panic.  “Are you ill?  Do you need something to eat?”

“Clara.  I’m fine, dear.  I was just looking for Georgia.”

“Who, sir?”

“Georgia.”  He looked at her dumbfounded.  “This is her room.”  He pushed it open to find it was in fact not Georgias.  There was a bed, a dresser, and a desk neatly placed made up as a guest room.

He stepped in to look around and found no trace of her then scratched his head.  He had hoped… but then again, the villain never hopes, does he?

“Alpha, you must have had a very busy and trying weekend.  Let me get you something to eat.  Perhaps you just need a hot bath?”

Stark nodded as he stood in her room.  Rather, the room that was never Georgia’s.

“Clara, where is my assistant?”

“Your assistant, Alpha?”

“Yes.  My witch.  My assistant.”

She looked at him confused.

“Where is my assistant?!”  he snapped.

“You don’t have one.”  She paused.  “Alpha, I don’t know what happened, but I’ve heard a lot of chatter, and I think you just need to take a moment.  Let’s get you a nice hot bath and a brandy and you’ll sleep like a log.”

“What have you heard?”

As Clara walked Alpha Stark down the hall towards his quarters, she chattered loudly about all the gossip that had circulated about the ball and how she was so relieved that he was safe.  They didn’t notice the creaking bedroom door that closed quietly behind them.  The door clicked shut and the toads sighed in relief as they all came out of hiding and hopped out of the open window that Stark hadn’t noticed.  He had looked around using the light of the bright full moon and, luckily, never turned on the light switch.

Clara, being the helpful and caring staff that she was, kept Stark quite busy.  She ran a hot bath for him and poured his brandy and even helped him into the tub.  After bathing, she had a nice bowl of beef stew, his favorite, waiting for him in his quarters so he could eat and not be disturbed.  All the while chattering away about this and that.  He wasn’t paying attention to her, really.  She mainly just babbled on and on about nothing and he generally tuned her out.

“Alpha?”  She asked.

“Yes, Clara?”

“I’ll leave you be so you can relax if there isn’t anything else that you may need.”

“I’ll be fine, Clara.  Thank you for your assistance.”

“Of course, Alpha.  Anytime.”  She smiled and headed for his bedroom door.

“Clara.”

“Yes, Alpha?”  She stopped.

“Where is my assistant?”

“Alpha, as I said earlier, you don’t have one.”  She looked at him concerned.  “Perhaps I should have one of the watchmen stay with you.”

“No, no.  I’ll be alright.  I guess I just need some sleep.”

“Of course, Alpha.”  Clara hurriedly stepped out of his quarters and let out a deep breath as she stood in the hall hoping he wouldn’t hear her then headed towards the servants living area.

Early the next morning, Stark found himself at Georgia’s room.  Even with the special treatment, he had a hard time sleeping.

He stood there for an eternity staring at her bedroom door.  He rubbed his chest as the indescribable feeling of loss came over him.  Did he… miss her?  He searched his mind hoping new memories had formed but all he had was of Georgia by his side.  He realized that he was the only one who would ever know of her existence.  He went to push the door opened and noticed that it was closed completely.  He knew he hadn’t closed it when he left her room the night before and wondered if he was going mad.

“This is the price I must pay for the magic I used.”  He said wisely.
