Alexanders... Mate?

Alexanders... Mate?

Alexander smiled brightly and got up to stretch and take a walk around and that’s when he looked up to the staircase and saw her.  She was lovely in her dark green dress.  Then again, as he remembered, she was always lovely… and on the arm of none other than Pierce Bradley.  He snickered and thought, ‘Of course, they would be mates. They’re perfect.’  And as he watched them descend he smelled the most amazing scent… wildflowers and…vanilla?  It was heavenly.  He knew it wasn’t coming from Rosemary, but who?  There were a few people behind them, and he waited hoping to see her.  He moved around his table to get a better view of the staircase and caught her intoxicating scent.  As the party got closer to them, her scent grew stronger.

“Alpha Alexander?  You okay?”

He had to snap out of his trance as he looked at Max and nodded towards him.

“Do you need to sit down?”

He shook his head.

Max looked at the table behind him and waved at Alexandria.  “Hello beautiful.  Nice to see you in something other than jeans.”

“Hahaha!  Very funny, Max… I can’t think of a comeback.  But unfortunately, you do look nice in your tux.”

“Top shop.”  Max smiled widely.  “Do you guys know Frankie?  Turns out she’s my mate.”  Pride flooded his voice as he spoke.

Frankie smiled and waved at them.  “Hi guys.  I’m glad you came.  I thought you weren’t going to make it.”

“Alexander didn’t want to come.”  Alexandria giggled and got up to join everyone.  She noticed that her brother was stiffer than usual, and he was staring at a very jittery short person standing behind Pierce.  She hugged everyone and got to the person who had been the object of her brothers stares.

“Georgia?”  Her voice didn’t hide the disapproval that there was a high possibility of them being mates.  She had witnessed Stark and Georgia, and knew how she felt about him.  She also knew she did much of his less than admirable work.  Alexandria, Charles and Alexander had suspicions that Stark was the reason they recently had rogue wolves attacking their pack.

“Hi Lex.”  She said cautiously.

“You didn’t leave with Alpha Stark?”

“Oh, umm, well… long story.”

Alexander cleared his throat, and everyone turned to look at him.

Georgia got goosebumps when their eyes locked.  “Hi, Alpha Alexander.”  She said quietly.

“Mate.”  Was all he could say.

Everyone looked to him and then to Georgia in surprise.  And Georgia, who believed she would never find someone was scared out of her mind at the feelings her body was producing for this man.  He had never come to the meetings, and they had never met in person.  Only spoke on the phone a couple of times, which now she understood why she loved both of those conversations so much.

‘Georgia, Alpha Starks assistant, is your mate.’  Alexandria mind linked her brother.

He shook his head and looked at his sister, then to Georgia.

“Oh.”  He whispered.  Georgia heard the disappointment in his voice.  At least, that’s what she heard.

She backed away a few steps then walked swiftly towards the doors to get outside.  She didn’t want to run and cause a scene.  ‘This can’t be happening.  It can’t be him.  This is such a fucked up twist of fate.’  She thought to herself.

“Please goddess, no.  Anyone but him.”  She said out loud once she got a distance into the rose garden outside.

“Why not me?”  He stood a short distance away from her to give her space.

She gasped and jumped at his voice.  Pressing her hands firmly on her chest she turned to face him… and whimpered.  She knew he would hate her.  She knew that this was her only chance of happiness and with all she helped Stark do to him, she had blown it.

“Georgia, why not me?”  The brisk walk and seeing his mate practically run from him helped Alexander to focus and be able to speak more than one word at a time.

“You hate me.”  She hiccupped her words out as she felt herself getting emotional.  All she wanted to do was jump into his arms and be held by him.  But she also wanted to dig a hole in the rose garden and bury herself alive… or run away.

“I…well, I don’t know you.  But there’s a reason we’re mates.  At least I’d like to think there’s a reason.  I don’t want to discredit that.”  He nervously ran his fingers through his hair.

“You’re disappointed that it’s me.”

“More like surprised, really.”  He took a few slow steps towards her.

She took a few back to maintain the distance.

“There’s a step down behind you.  I don’t know how many steps, but I’d really hate for you to fall.”

“You would?”  She asked hopeful.

“Well, of course.”  He took a few more steps towards her and stopped just out of reach hoping she wouldn’t get scared and run away.  “You’re my mate.”

She took a small step towards him.

“Y-you look beautiful in your dress.”  He stuttered out.  He wanted to kick himself for stuttering.

“We match.”  She smiled shyly.

“We do.”  He smiled back.

She looked towards the doors she came through and saw her friends standing there watching them.  Alexandria also stood there, visibly unhappy with the situation.  Alexander followed her focus and noticed everyone.  He waved at them, and they all waved back.  Max cackled and had a mischievous smile on his face.

Both Georgia and Alexander rolled their eyes and shooed them all to go inside.

Alexandria reluctantly left with the group.  She didn’t want to leave them alone together.  She knew what Georgia was capable of and was afraid that she might break her brothers heart.  She was ready for heartbreak and hearing him cry all night for being rejected.  Or maybe he would come to his senses and reject her.

Silence screamed between them while they stood outside under the full moon.  The space separating them felt like an ocean as they stared at each other.  Neither one of them believing they would ever find their mate, they had both settled in the fact that they would be alone forever.  Both frozen, not wanting to move but feeling the need to be as close as possible to each other.  She felt all her worries and fears multiply as they stood there.  He felt his too.  And for a moment they wondered if they shouldn’t be together.  They both felt each other’s apprehension.  Tears formed in Georgia’s eyes.  He saw them and then his fear changed to being without her.

“Georgia, you really do look amazing.”

“Thank you.  You look really handsome.  I love your tux.”

“You do?”

She nodded.  “Purple is my favorite color.”

He smiled.  “Mine too.”

“What if…”  she started.

“No what if’s.”

“None?”

“None.”  He finally decided to take a step closer to her.

She did the same.

They both smiled.

“I don’t work for Stark anymore.”  She blurted out.  She felt bold and took another step.

“That’s good.”  He did the same.

And they found themselves toe to toe.
