Alpha Alexander

Alpha Alexander

Alpha Alexander Talley and his perfectly gorgeous twin sister, Alexandria, got out of their limo and slowly walked on the purple carpet to the main doors towards the ball.  He had his apprehensions about going, but his sister calmed him and talked him into it.  He hated these events and sometimes felt that all the single werewolves were put on display in hopes that their mate would find them.  Some even, he learned were just here to find a hook up.  He cringed at the thought.

“Stand up straight, Zandy.  You’re the Alpha of the hour.”  His sister urged.  She was the only one in the world who was allowed to call him Zandy.

He nervously pushed his light brown hair back to the side with his fingers as he reluctantly stood up straight to his 6 foot 1 stature.  He knew he would be put on display tonight.  He was torn.  He hoped he’d find his mate so she would leave him alone.  He also hoped he wouldn’t find his mate, so he didn’t have to change anything about his life for someone else.  He didn’t feel quite ready.

His sister felt an urgency to finding a mate for him, especially since she found hers a couple of years ago.  She had gone to a quarterly Alpha meeting for her brother, because he always talked someone else into going for him, and met Alpha Starks beta, Charles and of course, they felt the mate bond immediately.  Charles didn’t like his position as beta for Stark, so he resigned and chose to move to Alexandria’s pack and became Beta there.  It left Stark without a beta, but it was, for all involved, a much better fit.

They walked over the threshold into the foyer and towards the open twin doors.  The click clack of her deep purple high heels and his matching oxfords echoed as they walked through. Pleasantly, they were greeted by none other than Bruce and Cordelia Harrington in their very royal and fine attire.  They were the wealthiest and most prominent family of the werewolf world.  He looked around to see if their daughter was there, but she wasn’t.  To him, it was a pipe dream if she were to be his mate, but a small bit of him had hoped that it would happen.  Then again, every single man attending, and even some of the mated ones, hoped the same thing.

“Let’s get a drink and find our seats.”  Alexandria said excitedly.

“Lexy, did you send our bags up to our room?”

“I did.  Your comfy sweats and holey t-shirt will be waiting for you there.”  She smirked.

“Ha ha.  Very funny.  I just prefer to be comfortable.”

“Well, even though you look like you have a large stick up your ass, you look quite dapper in your plum purple tux.”

“We stick out like a sore thumb.  We match and we smell alike.  All the ladies will think I’m already taken.”

“Stop it.  No, we don’t.  The right lady will smell your specific scent for her.  Not every man here is wearing a black tux.  Besides, black tux is so boring and old school.  Come on, let’s get a drink.”

They went to the bar to get their drinks then found their assigned seats.

“Maybe we should do a lap around the room.  Do you feel anything?”  She asked hopeful.

“Or maybe, we should just sit here and enjoy our drinks.  I can observe from here for now.”

“Fine.  But you did promise me we’d dance.”

“How could I forget?”

She smiled as she took a sip of her white wine.

“Did you hear about Alpha Stark?  He packed up and left suddenly.”  An older gentleman said at the table next to theirs.

“Oh.  Perhaps there was an emergency at his pack.”  Said his friend.

“Surely his Beta could have dealt with it.”

“He still hasn’t found a Beta.”

“Wonder why.”  He snickered.

“How will his niece get home?”  Said the second fellow.

“Rebekah?”  She got carted off with a binding spell on her.

“Oh really?”

“Yes! No one knows what happened.  There was a loud howl, then some windows somewhere in the south wing exploded and then nothing.  And then suddenly Rebekah was taken away and Stark ran.”

“How curious.”

“It is.  I’m sure Agatha will have all the details by breakfast tomorrow and tell us all about it.”

The twins looked at each other wondering what had happened.

Alexander relaxed a bit knowing that Stark wasn’t there.  He never trusted that guy and learning about some of the things he did from Charles, he trusted him less.  Knowing there was a possibility of less danger, he took a large drink of his lager and looked around the room.  He could tell which were single.  They were looking around like he was – hoping to find their mate.  He chuckled to himself as he saw a few sniff the air hoping to pick up a scent.  He took another swig and sat back in his chair.

“Oh goodie!  The hors d’oeuvres are coming out.”  Lexy looked towards the waiters coming out hoping one would come their way.  She was quite hungry.

“Don’t fill up on them.”  He chuckled as he stood up.  “I’ll do a lap.  You get some appetizers.”  Alexander really wanted to hear other conversations to see if anyone else was talking about what happened during the pre-ball gathering.  Had he known who Agatha was, he would have stayed close to her to find out more information.  Most of what he heard was hearsay and gossip.  They saw a fire breathing dragon, or someone said they saw Rebekah try to kill someone, his ultimate favorite was someone could have sworn they saw a lycan through the fifth story window on the south side of the hotel.  He held little stock to what others were saying.

An hour had passed, and he made it back to their table and a few others had sat there as well.  They all smiled politely and exchanged names.  None of which Alexander would remember.  And he didn’t count on any of them remembering his name either.

“Any luck?  His sister asked hopeful.

“Not at all, Lexy.  But it looks like you found a lot of appetizers.”

“I grabbed you some of your favorites.”  She stated proudly.

“I see.  Thank you.”  He sat down and took a bite of a crab puff.  “Oh, yeah.  That’s good.”

“Don’t fill up on them.”  Alexandria teased.

“Maybe you shouldn’t have gotten me so much.”  He smiled and then took another bite.

A couple hours later, after the dinner had been served, a bit of dancing and a couple more drinks, they were chatting with their table mates.  He was surprised at how much fun he was having.  His sister was right.  He was an old fuddy duddy stick in the mud sometimes.  He decided then and there that he would make it a point to have more fun and live his life.  He looked around at all the single people still sniffing the air, looking hopeless because they didn’t find their mate, again… he didn’t want to be like that.
