A Living Legend in Lesson

Velvette made it to the Grand Hotel to watch the end unfold.  She saw Nova and was ready just in case she attacked anyone, but she didn’t.  Rosemary hadn’t changed into Nova’s form in twenty years, and she was worried about the outcome, however it may have unfolded.  She was trained in knowledge and book smarts, but not in practicality and application.  And to make the connection less, Nova and Rosemary hadn’t spoken to each other since right before her sixteenth birthday.  She worried about them.

Nova had stilled.  She was breathing properly and no longer ready to attack.  Pierce had calmed her.  Velvette continued to watch as they all disbursed, and Pierce and Nova were escorted elsewhere.  Her presumption was to rest.  She could tell that Nova was tired.  She recalled Nova saying she was tired a hundred years ago.

She went back to her cottage and sat on the porch to have some tea.  She needed to clarify her thoughts.  Those last two years had been so hard on Rosemary.  She had been through so much.  She felt the love of her mate, the lustful love making from her mate, and the hatred from her mate.  It all confused her so much.  She would sit for hours and wonder what she did wrong, or if she would ever feel his warmth again…  all of it to bring her back to the beginning of where all the pain started, and with her memories.

She looked towards the hotel where the festive lights lit up the grounds for the early guests as they enjoyed their Champaign and fancy appetizers and recalled Rosemary’s excitement of the ball in past years… when the pressure of finding her mate wasn’t prevalent.  She heard the bright laughter of the guests who had no clue of what had just unfolded and no knowledge that they could have all been dead…

Rosemary was so young and naïve.  She had such hopes for being a Luna and a mate, such positive beliefs, such a sparkle in her eye of positivity and optimism.  Nothing like the woman she saw in the cottage who had woken up from her enchanted slumber when all of her memories came crashing upon her.  In two years’ time, she had become a hopeless shell at the hands of Pierce.  She had lived a lifetime of pain.  Brutal pain.  And Velvette could do nothing but let it happen.  So many times, she had wanted to soothe her, to comfort her, to tell her that this is not the way it should be.  But she couldn’t.  The Fates had disallowed her to visit Rosemary once she and Pierce mated.  She had to send eyes to find out what was going on.  The Fates told Velvette that this all needed to unfold.  It ‘needed’ to unfold.

Though she had walked the entire earth for over 500 years and had done their bidding, she couldn’t fathom why Rosemary needed to go through this pain with little more than an also stunted Frankie to soothe and help her.  The Fates made it all clear of what she couldn’t do; of what everyone couldn’t do to help Rosemary.

The Fates…

Ohhhhh The Fates…

Velvette had finished her tea and by this time was not soothed or comforted.  In fact, she was quite angry.

Seconds later she burst into The Fates vast celestial castle.  The heals of her shoes clicked loudly with every step as she walked down the long and useless hall.  The bang on the door echoed throughout as she aggressively walked through.

“WHY?!”  Velvette yelled.  Unknown tears streamed down her eyes as she mourned for her dear friend… not in death, but loss of her vitality.

“You’re late.”  Said Clotho, the red headed Fate calmly.

“Why did this happen to Rosemary?  Of all the people in the world.  Why her?  She was so innocent and so excited about life.  She saw the good in everyone and everything and had no qualms in life.  She was ready to be the perfect mate and Luna!  And Nova.  What have you done to her?  Did you all giggle while Rosemary was tortured and in pain?  She went through so much!  Why did…”

“Velvette.  I haven’t seen this much passion from you in centuries.”  Atropos, the black haired Fate commented.

“We knew you had become attached to Rosemary, but we didn’t realize how deeply.”  Said Lachesis, the blonde Fate with a little concern… just a little.

“Answer me!”

“You are the only one in the heavens and on earth who can speak to us in such a manner.  Don’t push it.”  The three said together.

“You are blinded by your love for the child.”  Said Atropos.

“You answered your questions in your questions.” Stated Lachesis.

“Sit down and have some tea.”  Atropos urged Velvette.  “All will be revealed.”

“In your time, right?”  Velvette asked dryly.

“It is time.”  Atropos stated.

“As you know, we have held man’s lives and deaths in our hands… then the lycans, the assistants, and werewolves.  Any beings with a higher consciousness.”  Clotho stood up and walked toward Velvette.  She sat next to her as the starry night sky began to form visuals.”

“Oh Clotho, you’re so dramatic.”  Lachesis teased.

“The cinema has taught me well over the years and a visual is always so helpful and pleasing to the eye.”  Clotho answered.  “Also, it’s fun.”  She smiled brightly.

Velvette cleared her throat loudly.

“Of course, where was I?”  Clotho thought.  “Oh yes… this goes back farther than your precious little Rosemary, Nova, and even you…”  She waved her hand as the sky painted a picture of a maiden and a wolf.  “No, farther.”  The picture changed to show a lightning bolt thrown down to earth.

“The gods became tired of the folly’s of man and beast.  Zeus no longer craved daughters of Eve and stopped visiting earth completely.  Then, because of his indifference, the rest of the gods followed and have all moved on to a different plain.  Zeus himself even condemning man and claiming no hope on any of them.”  Clotho’s voice quieted.

“As you know, we three had to handle much more than simply life and death.”  Said Lachesis.

“Which is why we needed you.”  Atropos added.  The three nodded in agreement and soon all sat with Velvette drinking a never ending cup of perfect tea.

“With this new age of beings, they have all seemed to be self-sufficient.  They handle their own wars though some still say they fight in the names of Ares and Athena.  Humans being the biggest benefactor.  But the lycans are dying out, the werewolves hide in the shadows and once powerful witches and warlocks have become nothing but an alpha’s assistant.”  Clotho added.

“The only one of the gods who helps us is Selene, and it’s a huge risk for her.”  Lachesis stated.

“What does this have to do with Rosemary?”

“Wars are natural.  They are needed.  However…”  Lachesis began to answer.

“There are some beings who take it too far and can end all life from their own greed.”  Atropos finished her sentence.

“Stark?”  Velvette guessed.

“Stark.”  The Fates nodded.
