33 - Acting or not?

Baron's POV.

“Sir, Ms. Hilary was outside.”

My eyes landed on my secretary when he entered my office, telling me that Hilary was outside by the door and waiting for my permission for her to get in.

“Did she tell you what her purpose is?” I asked before turning my gaze back to my laptop.

“She said she came to see you. Miss Hilary said that she wanted to spell me anything unless she spoke to you personally.”

I sighed, “I am swamped and don't have time messing with her, so tell her that she needs to come back tomorrow—”

“No, Baron. I need you right now.” Hilary came in with bulged eyes. I rose from my seat, staring at her in confusion because I had no idea what got into her these past few days. We lost contact, she didn't answer my calls, and suddenly she came here out of nowhere.

“What happened?” I questioned.

Hilary rushed towards me and hugged me while crying. I motion my secretary to leave us alone before I push her inches away from me, looking at her directly.

“Oh, Baron. I need your aid, and you're the only person I know who can help me at this rate, so please… don't neglect me, Baron…” she murmured, crying.

“What do you mean, Hilary? I don't understand what you are talking about.”

She wiped her tears before distancing herself and looked at the floor, “I need your help…”

“For what? How can I help you if you won't say anything, Hilary.”

“My son…” he murmured.

“What about your son?”

She raised her head and began to cry again. Hilary took my hand and held it tightly, “My son is in critical condition, Baron. He needs help, and I don't know where to get money. The child support that my ex-husband is giving us is not enough, so I don't know where to get money—”

“Hilary, calm down.” I calmed her down because she started being hysterical, and she seemed to be telling the truth, even though Abigail already warned me about her way to win someone's trust.

“Okay, I get it now. You need money for your son, but I will only give it to you if I see him myself.”

“Why? Don't you trust me? You thought I was using my son for money? How could you suspect a mother who wants nothing but to save her son?” She cried, trying to make me repent for not trusting her.

I touched her cheeks, reached for her tears, and wiped it away. “How much do you need?” I asked.

She swallowed, hesitating to tell me the amount she needed. “Would you lend me two hundred million dollars?”

“Two hundred million dollars? What happened to your son, and you need that kind of money?” I interrogate her, trying to find out if she's just using her son for her own advantage and also using my weakness on children.

“He has epilepsy and needs immediate medical action, so I need that kind of money to ensure my son's life. However, I understand if you don't trust me. I also understand if you're doubting me, so…” She turned her back to me and was ready to leave, but I immediately stopped her. “Wait!”

Hilary swirled back at me, “Yes?”

I approached her and sighed, “Forgive me. I can't hand you money without assurance, but if you were telling me the truth, then I'd trust you.”

“So, you will lend me money?”

“I will.” I returned to my desk to write her a check; after that, I turned back at her and handed it to her. Hilary stares at the money before smiling and embracing me, “Thank you! You're such a big help, Baron.”

I rubbed her back and replied, “No worries, Hilary. For your son, I'm willing to help. I have one, too. So, I understand you.”

“Thank you, Baron.”

“Now, go. Don't make your son wait,” I ordered, and she nodded in response before kissing me on the cheek and running out of my office.

I reached for my phone and dialed someone's number. [Hey, Baron!] David greeted me happily.

“I have a job for you. I want you to follow a woman for me.”

[Can it wait? I mean, your wife gave me a job to follow a woman who came to your office. Unless she's the same person you want me to follow.]

“Abigail hired you to follow Hilary?”

[Yes! She's pretty gorgeous and definitely my type, so I immediately agree. Besides, I'm down to mess with wild women like her since I'm single.] He answered, and if we're facing each other, he's definitely grinning right now.

“Whatever. Follow her. I gave her money, and she reasoned with her son, so.”

[Aren't you a bunch of idiots.]

“What the heck?”

[You and your girl gave them money. Are you that rich to waste so much money? Besides, I'm not after one woman.]

“Really? Did she ask you to follow another woman?” I confusedly asked.

[Ms. McAdams suspected her secretary. She thought her secretary was up to something, so I'm the most capable man to mingle around.]

“Of course you are. So, are you up with the job?”

[It depends on how much you pay me.]

David is my colleague. We were not close at college, but he is intelligent and bubbly. On top of that, he is a total womanizer, and every girl on our campus messes with him.

So, I'm not surprised when he accepts the job Abigail offers. Mainly, it involves women.

“Fine. I'll pay you, but not higher than Abigail. I will pay you the same amount I paid you to find clues about Abigail's father's death. Which was not expecting you to find out that her mother was killed.”

[Great! Not enough, but I will take that. What do you want me to do?] He questioned, intrigued by the job I offered to him.

“I want you to find out if she's telling the truth about the money and if her son was really sick. I gave her the body as bait, so do your job properly.”

[On it, Baron! Don't you worry! I will give you good news tomorrow, so sit back and relax,] He ensured.
