27 - The ex-wife and wife
Abigail's POV.
“Ma'am.” Annie, my secretary, handed me the documents that had been resting on Gerald's table.
Gerald was in jail for one week, and he left so much work to do. Although I have to catch all of his work, I'm still satisfied because he suffered for one week. Baron helped me throughout the week, and I'm happy about that.
“Thank you,” I responded as I checked the documents. “Oh, Annie.”
“Yes, Ma'am?” She asked.
“I was invited to a Charity Ball tomorrow night, so I'm expecting you to sort out everything before I leave.”
“Yes, Ma'am.”
“Great.” I focus my eyes on the documents, going through them carefully.
I need to make sure everything is sorted out before tomorrow night's ball, so I don't need any distractions, and I meant it. Mainly, Hilary is the best candidate to distract me right now. After I help Gerald get out of the game I made, she will get mad and confront me instantly.
“Uh, Miss McAdams.”
“Yes, Annie?”
“I'd like to file a week's leave.”
I turned at her, surprised, “What? Not now, Annie. We have so much work to do, and you can't just file a week's leave out of nowhere.”
“I know, Ma'am. But I don't feel very well these past few days, and I need to go see a doctor.”
I sighed, “Fine. I'll give you a week's leave, but you must return to work as soon as possible, okay?”
She nodded, “Yes, Ma'am.”
“Abigail!” A loud shout came from outside, and it immediately filled my office. “Who was that woman screaming?” I questioned my secretary, but she just shrugged, and we both had no idea who our unwanted visitor was.
“Abigail! Where are you?!”
Oh, boy. I know who owns that voice, and I cannot be mistaken because even if she's far from me, I can recognize that thin, annoying voice.
“Prepare your ears, Annie. This is going to be a long conversation with lots of shouting.”
Annie nodded, and we waited until that unwanted visitor barged inside my office. Hilary's raging eyes immediately landed on me, walking towards me with significant steps, and I could feel her anger rushing through her veins.
“You!” She pointed at me as if I had done something wrong. Oh, I forgot. I did something wrong. “What about me?” I inquired, shrugging my shoulders like I didn't know anything.
“Stop pretending you don't know anything, Abigail. You were trying to ruin my relationship with Gerald!” She complained.
“Why are you so affected? I thought you and Gerald were already divorced, but you're not over him. Unless you still have feelings for him, and you're just using my ex-husband to move on,” I stated.
“That's not true! I'm j-just concerned about Gerald. Even if we're divorced, it doesn't mean I don't have the right to know what is going on in his life. We still have a child, so he has responsibilities to me.”
I copped my hands because this was getting interesting. “What do we owe you for this displeasure?”
“How could you put him in prison and blame it on me? Do you have any idea that my ex-husband is suspecting me of something I didn't even do?” She said, clenching her jaw.
I cross my legs, enjoying the view because this is precisely what I wanted. “It's not my fault your ex-husband blames you for that.”
“What did you do, Abigail?” She questioned, desperate to know what I did. But I won't tell her so that it will be more enjoyable. “What did I do?” I asked her back.
She approached me with significant steps, muttering, “What did you do?!”
“I did nothing, Hilary. Why would you think that?”
“You! I know you! Why are you doing this to me, Abigail? Aren't you happy that Gerald is coming back to you? He chose you over me, so what's the point with all this?!”
“Seriously?” I scoffed, standing from my chair, and went to her, crossing my arms before looking at her from head to toe. “Seriously?” I repeat my question. “Do you think I'm happy because I got your man?”
“What else would you feel, Abby? You got Gerald back and your dad's company. What else do you want?!” She shouted, hysterical.
“Enough, Hilary. You're making a scene,” I halt her. “Gerald chose me over me; I get that. But don't blame me if he refuses to see you for one week, especially since we must keep it secret. We have to ensure you're not an enemy,” I explained.
“Of course, I'm not the enemy here, duh!” She rolled her eyes. “If I found out you are behind all of this, I swear.”
“What, Hilary?” I stepped closer and muttered, “What are you going to do? Hurt me? Kill me? Go ahead and face your ex-husband's wrath, or should I say, husband.”
She averted, “I don't know what you mean.”
“Oh, dear. You know exactly what I mean, so stop acting like you don't… You see, I know every single bad game you can start.”
She smirked, “Maybe you are, Abby. But you will not drag us down even though you're the smartest between us. You know nothing about what we went through, so you better watch out.”
“Hmm, scary!” I laughed. “Well, I'm not going to blame you, but forgive me, Hilary. No one can scare me, even you.” I turned around and sat back in my chair, crossing my legs before leaning and saying, “You should leave.”
She clenched her fist because it meant I once defeated her. “You!— This is not the end, Abby. I will prove to Gerald that you are behind this, and you better watch out! I promise you that!"
"Go ahead. If you found anything to blame me, Hilary."
"I hate you!" She exclaimed in so much rage. "You—argh!"
“What? You got anything more to say? I suggest you save it, so leave before you lose words to say.”
“Argh!” She screamed before marching out of my office and shut the door violently. I shook my head before gazing back at the documents on my desk when suddenly Annie said, “How long have you known Miss Hilary, Ma'am?”
“I don't know. I have lost count of the days ever since she stole my man, but no biggie. I already moved on, so.”
“I see. How long are you going to deal with her, Ma'am? She's quite annoying and might cause chaos in your company.”
“Hmm, good question, Annie. You know what? Find me the most professional designer in the city, no. Make it in the world and make an appointment. I want to stand out on the Charity Ball because Hilary will pull a game to get revenge.”
“Got it, Ma'am!”
