Chapter 20 Chapter 20) A masking potion/ The least loved child.
She rose up from the sofa. A bead of sweat formed on her forehead before it slid down her temple.
“Father, give me another chance. I will try my best to make things right”. She pleaded with him, then a thought she had been trying to convince him for a while came into her mind.
“How about, instead of focusing on the Lycan King, I should develop a substance that would become the werewolves’ weakness? After all, that is more simple than going against the Lycan King”.
‘This again? When will she ever learn?’. He thought before turning to her.
His eyes darkened, causing her to freeze.
“Why have you mentioned this to me again, Kate? I had told you several times before that your main focus should be on the Lycan King, that bastard Alejandro”. He quarreled with her, then tried to calm down and was massaging his temples as he added, “Okay. So now tell me, Kate. Let us say you succeeded in creating a substance that our military could use to fight against the werewolves. Do you have any idea what is going to happen next?”.
Her father's sudden question caused a little confusion inside her mind.
‘Why is he acting like this?’. She thought, and replied to him confidently, “What will happen next is that the population of the werewolves is greatly going to decrease until they cease to exist”.
Not believing that his genius daughter could give him such a foolish answer, President Gabriel slapped his forehead in pure disbelief and had to take a few seconds to stare at her with a deep frown on his face.
He sighed and shook his head. “Did I forget that she is merely a young lady? What could she possibly know about tactics?”. He muttered.
“Kate, I am going to explain it to you now, so listen to me carefully. If you do create a substance that would give a big blow to the werewolves, do you think Alejandro is going to sit back and watch that continue to happen? He is going to attack our city and burn everything to the ground before we even get the chance of making him and the entire werewolves go extinct”.
As he said that, he walked close to her and placed both his hands on her shoulders. He continued to say to her with raised eyebrows, “But if we want to get a better chance at winning the war, we must first get rid of Alejandro”.
“Also, I don't want you to create any substance against the werewolves, because people like Mr Donald could certainly get their hands on them without my permission and act without my permission. And if that eventually happens, Alejandro is going to fight back”.
“He is going to fight us”.
“And that is what I have been trying to prevent from happening”.
“So, Kate, in order to win the battle, Alejandro must be the first person who dies”.
She bit her lower lips after her father finished talking.
It was because, at this moment, she realized how foolish she had been. She had not known her father's mind until now. That was why she did not understand why he had always prevented her from creating substance against the werewolves, but instead made her focus on the Lycan King.
“Please, there isn't much time left, Kate. You must come up with a solution. If you need anything, just tell me about it immediately. But, we really can not afford to wait that long anymore”. He told her and tapped her shoulders twice, then he let go.
After turning around and about leaving the presidential suite, he was stopped by her.
She had stretched her right hand towards his back as she told him to wait, while her other hand held her clothes tightly.
He turned to her.
“What is it, Kate? Is there something you need?”. He asked her.
“I- I have an idea, and I think it might actually just work”. She said to him, causing his eyes to instantly lit up, as if a heavy burden had been lifted off his chest.
“Tell me quickly. I am listening”. He ordered her.
“It's my latest invention, father. The fake werewolf mask”. She began, then continued to say, “I have developed a portion that could make one smell like a werewolf, feel like a werewolf, and fool others into thinking they are a werewolf. But the mask would only be able to last for a month. Also, it was an Omega werewolf mask potion that I was only able to create”.
“What are you trying to say?”.
She sighed deeply, and her heart felt heavy within as he asked her.
But despite that, she maintained the confident look in her eyes as she continued to say to him, “I am willing to take the Omega werewolf mask potion and infiltrate the moonlight pack, father”.
“Somehow, I will get close to the Lycan King and get his blood for the experiment. I promise, I will try my best to complete the mission”.
After saying that to him, she had truly expected him to be worried about her safety and rebuke her idea, but what was she thinking when she was a tool meant to be used by him and others?
“That is my brave girl. You are my brave daughter”. He smiled at her as he said.
At that same second, he added with a firm nod, “This is great news, Kate. The mission is meant for you, because you are smart, you are a genius, and I believe that you are not going to mess things up”.
“Don't worry, I will prepare everything you need today, so that by this time tomorrow, you will be in the moonlight pack”.
As he finished saying those words to her, he left the presidential suite in a hurry and had a proud look on his face.
He did not want to delay in making the necessary arrangements.
But the second after he left, Kate fell to her knees on the floor and her hand reached out and clenched her chest tightly.
“He never really cares about me”. She chuckled painfully and muttered, because his positive reaction to her dangerous idea was a huge blow to her chest.
Though she has not forgotten something important.
She knew that the only ones he truly cared about were her half younger twin brothers, who were born of his secret lover before he got married to her after she lost her mother.
