Chapter 27 His Beast

Chapter 27 His Beast
I kept running. I didn’t stop. I couldn’t stop. I was no longer in control of myself. My beast, Blake, had taken over, and he was furious.

I could already tell that whoever was behind this would hate himself. Blake had no mercy, especially for anyone who dared to trigger him with something from the past.

My mind kept flashing back to when I saw him holding it—the necklace. It was obvious he wanted me to see it, to react. And I did. I couldn’t stop myself. Now he would hate himself for that.

The woods grew darker, denser with every step. The man had transformed into a wolf, trying to outrun me. Joke's on him—Blake was faster than any wolf alive. He was the strongest. That’s why I called him a beast. No wolf has his capabilities and worse, no wolf is as deadly as he is.

The faster he ran, the closer I got. Suddenly, I caught up. I sank my teeth into him and tossed him aside. He fell to the ground, growling silently. I rushed him, nudging him until he slammed into a tree.

Blake wanted to kill him, but I didn’t want that. I had promised Mom to never kill anyone again, no matter what.

I tried to make Blake relent but it was too hard.

My eyes landed on the necklace again. He was protecting it with his life, and it was eating me alive. I used to love that piece. I still did. But now I couldn’t stand it. It reminded me of a horrible past I had fought so hard to forget. I wasn’t going to let him take away the peace I had made by letting go.

The wolf growled in pain, but Blake didn’t care. He kept hitting him, fighting him. Just as he was about to kill him, a loud growl echoed through the forest, followed by stomps. I looked up and saw two more wolves approaching.

So this was the plan—lure me out and take me down. They were mistaken. Blake was too angry for them to stand a chance.

When they approached, Blake’s fury only grew. It was dangerous—not just for them, but for me too. Worst of all, I couldn’t control Blake.

He slammed a wolf into a tree, growling, until it lost consciousness. The others hesitated. He leapt at them, but out of nowhere another wolf intervened, crushing them.

Blake turned. I recognized her. Mom. What was she doing here?

She growled and attacked the others. Blake bristled at her intrusion but didn’t attack her.

When she was done, she transformed back into her human form and snatched the necklace from the wolf.

Blake roared. She didn’t hesitate. "Keep quiet, I’m only here to help!" She growled. "Transform back now!"

I couldn’t. Blake roared again and stepped forward. She took a step back. "Control yourself, Axel!" She shouted.

I wasn’t in control. Blake didn’t care who she was. He would have taken her down if he needed to. He growled, still furious, ready to strike, when I pulled him back. I made him turn away, trying to calm him and regain control.

I needed to get him back to his senses, or Mom would suffer the most. But Blake wasn’t having it. He wanted blood. He wanted to kill someone—anyone.

I growled at him to calm down while Mom stood back quietly. It took forever, but finally, I regained control and transformed into my human form.

I collapsed, exhausted, blood dripping from my nose. Mom rushed to me. "Are you okay?"

I gathered my strength and replied, "Yeah. How did you know I was here?"

"Wolves came to attack the house. I guess it was a trick to lure you out and then barge in."

I looked at her, and she understood what was in my mind.

"Don’t worry, Nyla is fine. She’s with William, and they’re both protected."

I sighed, slowly standing. "They know too much."

"Yes, that’s why we need to act fast before they take us down completely," She said. "It’s the perfect time for you and Nyla to go to the farmhouse and get things right."

"I’m not getting her pregnant, Mom," I said.

"We don’t have a choice, Axel. You have to do it."

"I don’t want to!" I yelled.

She looked shocked at my outburst. I tried to calm down but couldn’t. "I know things aren’t going as planned, but I can’t just use Nyla to get through my life. I can’t do that."

"I understand, but—" She started. I quickly cut her off.

"No, you don’t understand. You’re selfish! All you care about is yourself and this stupid legacy." At that moment, it wasn’t me speaking—it was Blake and he’s trying to break through me again.

Her eyes narrowed, hurt flashing across her face. She was silent for a long moment before asking, "Really? I’m selfish? All I do is for this town. For you."

"Oh really? What do you do?"

She opened her mouth but then closed it, pausing. Finally, she said, My brother was like you."

My heart stopped. I never knew about that.

She continued, "I lost him because his wolf took over. He had a beast like yours, and it grew worse every single day until it killed him."

"You have no idea what it’s like to lose him over something that could have been avoided," She said, her voice breaking. "I don’t want to lose you, Axel. I’ve already lost so much. I can’t lose you too."

I didn’t know what to say. I felt terrible—truly terrible. "You won’t lose me." I wrapped my arms around her. She sobbed, and I sobbed too. Then I pulled away and helped her wipe her tears. "I think we should go back. I need to get the car ready for tomorrow’s drive."

Her brows knitted in confusion, so I added, "Nyla and I are going to the farmhouse."

She smiled and nodded. Mom promised to handle the enemy situation here while Nyla and I went. Even though I still hated having to use Nyla this way, I knew it was the only option.
