Chapter 16

Amelia's POV.

Damien was still accusing Freya of what happened, raising a voice at her for bringing up the rumors as an excuse, and I felt satisfied seeing how mad he was at her. I decided to make things worse for Freya and acted like the injury I had sustained from the fall was giving me so much.

“I'm so sorry for what happened; let me take you to my chamber to get some rest and also have your wounds attended to,” Damien proposed as he gently helped me up, acting like a gentleman.

I could feel the anger foaming in Freya's mind as her eyes blazed in fury. Damien's suggestion seemed to have placed her in an uncomfortable corner, and she could not help but feel suffocated in that corner; she landed a hot stare at Damien before returning her gaze to me, jealousy and anger evident in her eyes.

“No, I don't think that would be a good idea, Damien?” She argued and swung over to my left side as she quickly tried to agitate against Damien's proposal.

“Why do you think it is not a good idea, Freya, or do you just want to start another fracas? Remember, your last suggestion landed her in this state, so don't even come up with another stupid excuse,” Damien snapped, his voice firm and deceitful as he stared dead at her.

“But you know it wouldn't be right to take her to your chamber; it will only stir up rumors. People will start to talk about it and that wouldn't be good for an Alpha like you. Besides, her wounds are not too deep can't you see that?” Fraye argued, her face filled with dissatisfaction and worry.

I laughed inwardly at how uncomfortable she was and how much she was trying to stop her husband from taking me to his chamber; she could finally feel the pain in taking what belonged to another; I hope she would learn her lessons, though that still would not stop me from executing my plans.

‘What you are just seeing is just the tip of an iceberg.’ I said inwardly and my heart fluttered in satisfaction.

“That is just a trash of an excuse. Can't you see she is hurt, or have you suddenly gone blind?!” Damien yelled, trashing her excuses to the mud.

“But you are the Alpha, Damien, and it is only your Luna that is supposed to visit your chamber!” Freya's unsteady voice raised as she grew more uneasy seeing how determined Damien was to take me to his chamber.

“That is only trash coming from you, Freya; step aside,” Damien snapped, ignoring Fraye's constant clamoring as he took me and headed to his chamber.

Freya, seeing that all her agitation was futile, stood there at her spot, bubbling like boiling water with no Damien to listen or look her way. I feigned to have noticed any of the happenings.

On our way to Damien's chamber, I decided to ask Damien why his relationship with Freya was in such an unstable state, and unhealthy one at that.

I just wanted to know if Freya had originally been playing a bad role as a wife to him or if his strange attitude towards her emerged as a result of my presence because from how Damien always treated Freya, it was more like he was forced into his marriage with Freya.

But I know that was false if that would be what he would claim to be the problem; I was there when he chose Freya over me; it was his will, his choice, and he should be happy to live with his choice.

“I want to ask you a question, Damien,” I said to Damien, breaking the silence that had been lurking in our minds since we left Freya.

“Okay, go on, feel free to ask me anything,” Damien said with a smile, still playing his nice personal character.

“Why is your relationship with Freya so tense? You both are always at loggerheads,” I asked, staring at him.

His expression suddenly turned stern, but he quickly warded it off like he was okay with the question.

“Umm…About that, it's nothing basically; we are not always that way; it's just, umm…a mere interaction; there is nothing serious to it. I just want you to be safe and okay”  he stuttered and feigned a smile.

From his unstable explanation, I knew that something was wrong, but he was just hiding; perhaps he might be feeling ashamed to share his true feelings about his marriage. I decided not to ponder more questions, it severs him right after all, he clearly made the choice himself.

There was silence all through until we got to his room. He asked one of the guards that guard his chamber to open the door for him as he helped me into the room.

I was filled with disgust at the sight of what he called his room. I could not believe it. I could not phantom what actually happened to the room, but I hated the sight; I felt like it was upside down and quite unkept, more like the room of the loser that he is than that of an Alpha.

His properties and items in the room were all in a disheveled condition in my eyes; I felt like it was a nemesis on him like he didn't even take a look at the room for once. I can't believe I once loved that room and enjoyed staying with him.

I wanted to reach out of disgust, but I exacted all my willpower and discipline to hold it back; he would feel disgraced if I should let that happen. I stared at him with so much disdain in my heart but waved it off.

“Why did she hate me so much?” I asked Damien weakly, trying to move my mind out of anything that had to do with the room; it would only bore down to my energy.

“You mean Freya?” He asked, sitting on the couch close to me.

“Yes, she shows me nothing but unkindness, making me always remember my past,” I said pitifully.

“Your past, were you treated unkindly in the past?” Damien asked, sounding so concerned.

“Yeah. I had a sister who always treated me with so much disdain; she hated me a lot and always condemned everything I did. She…she has never believed that nothing good could come out of me, she has never seen me as a human, and she always makes me feel less of myself and unworthy of my life.” I explained pitifully.

“She must be insane to have considered you that way and treated you in that manner,” Damien snapped, his voice a bit tensed.

“I–I had tried everything within my power to please her, to make her love me and regard me as a sister but it was all futile.  I just wanted her to love me as her sister; I just wanted a sisterly bond between us,” I said, my shaky like that of a person who was about to cry.

“I'm really sorry for what you went through in her hands. I understand how you feel, but I just want you to know that she isn't worth it, she doesn't deserve your love, and you are far better than her. Don't let it get to you okay…” he said in a consoling manner.

Just then, Freya barged into the room with Luna Bella unexpectedly and saw Damien petting me as he tried to console me. I quickly feigned cold again at the sight of the two ladies, pretending to be affected by the pain from my wounds.

“Why would you bring my mother instead of a physician Freya!” Damien raged as he turned to behold his mother, Luna Bella, in the room.
