Chapter 73: A Stranger In a Black Cloak

Kurt finally calmed down and Kulan removed the net from him. She held him in her hands and quietly made him go to sleep as the Baril police arrived and encircled her.

The leading commander wanted to approach her but Jum stopped him.

"Stand down. I will handle this."

"Yes, sir."

The commander went back and Jum stood there, watching Kulan as she took care of Kurt.

Lao and Peruh walked over to him.

"What's going on?" Peruh asked with a puzzled look.

"Don't you think it's beautiful, yet pitiful? Look at what love reduced such a powerful witch to." Jum chuckled.

"Kurt is no easy fry either. And even more dangerous than you in his berserk mode. That was why I activated the net. I couldn't handle him alone." Lao pointed out.

There was respect in his voice which annoyed Jum.

"Are you saying his berserk is more powerful than mine?"

"Yes. We wouldn't have been able to handle them on our own if they had joined forces from the beginning."

Peruh didn't want to believe Lao but decided not to say anything because Lao was hardly wrong about people.

As for Jum, he was greatly upset by Lao's words. He glared at the couple and a mischievously evil glint emerged from his eyes.

"Looks like the next few days will be fun-filled." He then turned to Peruh. "Load them up."

"Okay."

Peruh transmitted to the other policemen and they swiftly approached KuLaa.

The moment she saw them coming, she stood up, carried Kurt in a bridal style, and walked to the black van waiting by the side.

The policemen were also sensible. Since she wasn't putting up any fight, they didn't attack her or address her. They just quietly made way for her.

Once the van was gone, Jum turned to Lao, "Activate mission number two."

"Okay." Lao nodded. He then brought out a golden antic that looked like an arrow. This antique was called a transponder. The coven uses it in sending and receiving messages from across realms.

Lao pressed a button on it and it started humming. After some time, it changed from golden to ash and rose into the air, before abruptly speeding off into the cloud.

In the western part of the vampire realm, Kulan had been gone for more than four months, and in those months, Alice was in charge.

The twins were not allowed to leave the island until KuLaa's return so all they had to do was follow their mother around as she did her work.

They would have had more to do but because of their strained relationship with Alice who was now in charge, Megan told them to stay close to home. She was trying to make sure nothing went wrong as Alice was known to be petty.

Since the day was for humans and the night was for vampires, While Megan and her kids were getting ready to start the day, Alice was preparing to enter her coffin.

As she entered the coffin and its lid clicked to indicate that it was locked, the door to her room silently opened and someone in a black cloak entered the room.

The unknown person started murmuring some incantations and magical energy started emerging from the person's body. It entered the coffin and it started shaking as Alice started trying her best to get out of it…

In the school, a few hours after Alice was attacked in her room, Megan was sorting out some books that the students just returned the previous evening when Bella ran into the Library in panic.

"Megan, where are the twins?"

"They were just here. What happened?" Megan was confused.

"They are here?" Bella asked, looking uncertain.

"Yes… Ainar, Amoux !" Megan called out.

The way Bella was behaving was making her feel uneasy.

"Try connecting with their souls."

At this point, Megan became worried. If something was wrong with the twins, wouldn't she feel it?

Apart from the fact that they just left her side and should be somewhere in the huge Library, if they were in trouble, she should feel the unease in her soul.

"Bella, just tell me, what is going on?"

In response, Bella brought out two jades. These jades were magic totems that acted as a conduit attached to the twins' souls.

Bella, who couldn't connect to their souls directly because she was a human witch and not powerful enough, uses it to connect to their souls.

The jade totem also acts as a warning signal. If any of the twins were in trouble or just worried, this jade which was originally white would turn to red. If the soul attached to it dies, it will turn to black.

Presently, it was as red as blood. Meaning the twins were in trouble.

When Megan saw it, her eyes widened in shock.

"My children?" She whimpered as panic seized her.

What frightened her the most was that her kids were in danger but she felt nothing. That has never happened before.

"Amoux, Ainar !!"

Megan rushed through the towering bookshelves and started looking for her kids.

"Megan, wait!" Bella ran after her and grabbed her. "Take."

She pushed the two jades into Megan's hand. They also act as a compass to find the missing body of the soul in them.

Megan collected the jades, clasped her fists around them, and channeled her magic into them. Her eyes turned silver and she watched as a trail of magical energy appeared and started moving towards the exit of the Library.

"They left? Why? I told them not to go anywhere without telling me."

"Let's hurry Megan. Snap out of it."

Bella patted her, waking Megan up from the fuzzy panic that was hindering her from thinking properly.

"Aah, okay. Let's go!"

The two women started following the magical energy until they noticed that it was taking them towards the mountainous area of the island.

The more they ran, the more Megan grew terrified.

A few miles to the edge of the seal, they saw Alice carrying two black sacks on her shoulders and running towards the end of the seal.

In shock, Megan watched as the trail of magical energy she was following landed on the two sacks. Those were her kids in the sack!

Megan saw red!

"Alice, Stop!" In anger, Megan ran towards her and clawed at her.

"Aaaagh!" Alice screamed and dropped the sacks.

"What are you doing?" Megan screamed in Alice's face as Bella untied the sacks and brought out the unconscious twins.

"Amoux! Ainar?" She tried to wake them up but nothing worked.

Seeing how helpless her kids looked, Megan started attacking Alice to kill her but the moment Megan had killing intent towards Alice, Alice's enchanted heart turned green and attacked Megan's magic, sending her flying.

"Shit!"

Megan woke up from her frenzy of anger as she remembered that Kulan had all their hearts enchanted so that she would be notified if any of them were in danger.

Instantly, Megan knew she wouldn't be able to kill Alice. She withdrew her killing intent and attacked again. This time, she just wanted to subdue and capture her.

On the other side, Bella was still trying to wake the twins up to no avail. After trying several times, she gave up and watched as Megan and Alice fought.

For some reason, Alice wasn't fighting with much power and it was as if she intentionally gave herself up for a beating.

After Megan had thoroughly vented her anger, she tore Alice's dress at the trim and used it as a rope to tie her down before knocking her out. She then dragged her on the stony ground without care.

Megan needed Alice to suffer.

"How are they?"

Megan brought Alice over and checked on the twins.

"I don't know what is going on. They are not waking up. My magic is not working." Bella worriedly said.

Megan frowned and used her magic to check the kids. They were just in a deep sleep. Apart from that, nothing was wrong with them.

"They are just sleeping."

"But why can't my magic wake them up?" Bella sounded very worried and annoyed.

Megan turned to Alice who had a vacant look in her eyes.

"How do we wake them up?"

It was as if Alice didn't see or hear her. She was just lying there on the ground like a dummy. This was when Megan noticed that something was off with Alice.

"Bella, check Alice. What's going on with her?"

Bella moved over and channeled her magic into Alice but she was repelled and sent flying.

"I didn't ask you to kill her," Megan yelled at her angrily, thinking that Bella had killing Intent towards Alice.

"I didn't try to kill her. I am not that stupid." Bella responded angrily.

"Then what happened?"

"I don't know. Let's just leave her alone. Kulan will deal with her when she comes back."

"Okay. Let's go."

Megan turned to Tala (Her wolf), and Belle helped her to load the twins on her back. After that, Bella cast a spell that wrapped around Alice and lifted her into the air.

As they moved back to the island, the magically bonded Alice flew after them noiselessly.

When they got to the residential area of the island, Bella cloaked them all with an invisible spell so that nobody would notice them.

They first took the kids to Megan's courtyard where they tucked them in Megan's bed before taking Alice to the island's underground dungeon, where they locked her in a cell.

"Why did she do it?" Megan wondered aloud.

She knew that Alice was devoted to KuLaa. Therefore, this event was truly bizarre to her.

"Didn't she have a grudge with you and your kids?" Bella responded with another question. "Maybe she just wanted to deal with them in private."

"By taking them out of the island?"

Bela shrugged, "I am just guessing. I don't know how her mind works. All I know is that she is petty and vengeful. But I think this is the most stupid thing she has ever tried to do."

Megan huffed as she got lost in thoughts "What are we going to do now?" Bella asked.

"We will just have to manage until Kulan comes. I guess."

"Okay. You don't have to worry. Just take care of your kids. I will inform the relevant people so they can cover Alice's duties."

"Thank you, Bella."

"Let me know when the kids wake up, okay? I have to go now."

"Okay." Megan nodded as she watched Bella runoff.

Once Bella was gone, Megan returned to the cell and tried to talk to Alice again.

Not only was Alice in the position they left her in, but she was also not responding to Megan's questions.

Megan was clear that things were not as they appeared to be. She didn't understand what was going on but she decided that her twins wouldn't be leaving her sight again until KuLaa's return.

At night, when the humans were sleeping and the vampires were living the best of their lives, the same cloaked stranger entered the island's dungeon. They slowly approached Alice's cell.

Using magic, this person opened the cell and stepped in. After that, Alice stood up and faced the stranger.

The stranger uttered some incantation and magical energy entered Alice's forehead from the stranger's finger.

Alice, who had been docile and unresponsive suddenly blinked. Her eyes turned red and her claws came out. She lifted her right hand and struck herself in the chest. With a roar, she grabbed at her own heart and wrenched it out of her chest. Still breathing, she handed the heart to the stranger.

The stranger used magic to suspend the heart in the air. They then formed a ball of fire and threw it at Alice.

Wordlessly, Alice started burning but as her flesh burned, her blood started gathering into a puddle on the side.

After a while, the last drop of blood left her burning body and joined the blood puddle. Then the body turned to ashes and crumbled the moment the fire dispersed.

The cloaked person then brought out a gourd and transferred the puddle of blood into the gourd. As for the heart, it was still breathing but the stranger made it disappear.
