Chapter 26
Paul exited the elevator onto the floor where his office was. He had entered with a couple of people, some of which had dropped on lower floors while the rest of them were getting out together with Paul.
He had only taken two steps when he saw Diane. She was about to open the door to her office when she looked around and they both locked eyes. She only smiled and went into her office.
That was not so bad, Paul said to himself as he kept walking. He saw that Pete was in his office and decided to talk to him about what he had in mind.
“Hey, Pete,” he said as he opened the door.
“Don’t you knock?” Pete asked.
“There was no sign on your door that demanded that. You might want to add that,” Paul joked.
“You’ve always got a response huh?”
“You know it,” Paul said, smiling.
“Why do I have the honor of your presence this morning?” Pete asked as he folded his arms across his chest and looked at Paul.
“There’s something important I would like to talk to you about. Can we meet in my office by twelve noon? Someone else will be there.”
“Who?” Pete asked.
“You’ll find out, just show up,” Paul said.
“Why not my office?”
“Mine is at the end so, more privacy,” Paul said.
Pete was nodding his head while he looked at Paul trying to see if that explanation carried substance or not.
“Okay then,” he said. “Twelve it is.”
Paul gave his brother a thumbs up before walking out of his office.
He wondered if this would be the best time to talk to Diane and decided it was best to get it over with.
He knocked on her door and entered her office.
She said nothing when he entered, she only smiled. Paul smiled too before taking a seat across Diane.
“I want us to talk about what I told you about yesterday,” Paul said, trying to keep a straight face. “My brother will be there.”
“Where and when,” Diane asked. She was no longer smiling.
“My office, by twenty minutes after twelve,” Paul said.
“Okay,” Diane said.
Paul was about to stand up when Diane spoke.
“Aren’t we going to talk about what happened yesterday?”
“I told you I had someone in my life,” Paul said.
“Yet you took my undies,” Diane said smiling. “I can’t remember the last time I walked in a public space without undies.”
“I don’t know what I was thinking,” Paul admitted.
“So, I’m guessing this is a one-time thing then.”
Paul shrugged.
That was enough information for Diane to get out of her seat. She moved to where Paul was sitting, looked around and kissed him when she was sure that no one was walking by the place. Paul kissed her back.
She stopped, walked towards her door, opened it and turned around.
“Records room, you could get another one” Diane said she pointed to her waist and walked away.
Paul understood what she meant.
