The Mysterious Nora Williams

The Mysterious Nora Williams

Diane didn't tell Max why she seemed so upset since returning from Max's parents' house. Her husband patiently tried to comfort her. Max's sweet demeanor usually worked wonders to melt her heart. But this time, since Leon had announced his marriage to Nora Williams, his concern for his sister-in-law's safety had increased.

"I know you're close to my brother," Max said. "But getting too involved because of his marriage is not good. I know Nora's background is different from ours. She's a celebrity who's used to living a glamorous life. But didn't you see how modest she was tonight, Diane? Her clothes were nice, but simple. Her makeup was natural, and she was very polite."

Diane turned to her husband with a furrowed brow. Max didn't seem to be trying to hide the fact that he was impressed with Nora. "Since when did you become a fashion enthusiast, Max?"

Max shrugged and chose not to answer to prevent his wife from grumbling. He walked out of the kitchen, leaving his wife behind.

Diane sighed. If only the problem was as simple as her not liking Nora because she was a celebrity.

She had just made a cup of tea and was taking a small sip when Max re-entered the kitchen. "You sure you're okay, babe? You should get some sleep. You said you have a morning meeting tomorrow."

"You go to bed first, Max," she said softly. "I'll catch up later."

Max sighed, then left her again. Diane heard Max's footsteps climbing the stairs to their bedroom.

She was grateful they didn't have children. Max didn't like children, and Diane avoided them because every time she saw innocent children, it reminded her of her bleak and traumatizing childhood.

"My mother killed my stepfather," she told Max when they had been dating for a year and he asked her to marry him. "Are you okay with my background like that?"

"But you're the one who told me that your stepfather was a drunk, often beat up and threatened to kill you and your mom. Your mother had a good reason for her actions."

The reason was the pair of large hands and bodies that were pressing down on her, trying to strip her naked. At the point of her submission, someone suddenly rushed in and plunged a knife into her repeatedly. Diane only realized that the knife bearer was her mother when she screamed. "Go away, Diane! Go and hide!"

Later, when they were married, Max told her about Leon, a dead girl, and another girl who mentioned that Leon had killed her. The girl disappeared, the death was ruled an accident, but all of this had cast doubt in the hearts of every family member as to Leon's innocence.

Perhaps it was the family's similar murder history that led Diane to offer Leon her help in finding the girl, Nora Williams.

Diane was reading the newspaper while enjoying her morning coffee at the kitchen table. She heard footsteps approaching and looked up to find Leon, her brother-in-law, walking into the room wearing a concerned look.

"Good morning, Leon," She placing her coffee cup down and casting a worried glance at him. "Is everything okay?"

With a heavy sigh, Leon ran a hand through his hair and sat down across from Diane. His voice was low and serious as he started, "I need to talk to you about something.

Diane watched Leon's gloomy expression, her brow pinched with anxiety. Naturally, Leon. "What is it?" she inquired in a kind and comforting voice.

Leon stared at the table in front of him, taking a time to collect himself before he spoke. "It's about a girl" he admitted, his voice tinted with fear.

Diane’s eyes widened in surprise. “a girl? Who is she” she inquired, curiosity piqued.

Leon took a deep breath, steeling himself for what he was about to reveal. “She holds the key to a murder case that I was accused of,” he admitted, his voice barely above a whisper. “But there’s a problem. She has amnesia due to trauma, and I’m worried that the only memory that might resurface is the sight of me with the victim’s body.

Diane felt a wave of shock wash over her at Leon’s confession, her mind racing with the implications of his words. “Oh my God,” she breathed, her heart pounding in her chest. “What are we going to do?”

Leon shook his head, his expression grim. “I don’t know,” he admitted, his voice filled with frustration. “But I can’t let her memory put both of us in jeopardy. I need to find her and make sure she’s safe.”

Diane reached out and placed a comforting hand on Leon’s arm, offering him a reassuring smile. “We’ll figure this out together, Leon,” she said, her voice filled with determination. “I’ll do whatever it takes to help you.”

Sophie stared at her phone screen, contemplating whether to make the call. She knew Diego was usually busy, but she couldn't shake off the curiosity gnawing at her. With a determined sigh, she pressed the call button and waited anxiously as the phone rang.

After a few moments, Diego's voice came through the line. "Hello?"

"Diego, it's Sophie," she said, her tone eager yet composed.

"Hey, Sophie. What's up?" Diego sounded surprised.

"I couldn't make it to your mom and dad’s wedding anniversary, but I know you met Leon's new wife there," Sophie said, getting straight to the point.

Diego's voice sounded cautious. "Yeah, we did. Her name is Nora."

Sophie leaned forward, her curiosity piqued. "So, what's she like? Tell me everything."

Diego hesitated for a moment, trying to find the right words to describe Nora. "Well, she's different from what I expected. More modest, I suppose. But there's something intriguing about her. She doesn't fit the typical celebrity mold."

Sophie listened intently, absorbing every detail. "Interesting. And physically?"

Diego paused, recalling Nora's appearance. "Blonde hair, blue eyes. But it's more than just her appearance. There's a certain warmth and sincerity about her that's hard to ignore."

Sophie nodded to herself, processing the information. "I see. Thanks, Diego. I appreciate you filling me in."

"Why are you asking about Nora?” There was suspicion in Diego’s voice.

"Just curious. Well, talk to you later," Sophie said, ending the call with a sense of satisfaction. Now armed with some insight into Nora, she couldn't wait to meet her in person.
